where is Selection Sunday's schedule?
3/17/2013 11:50:48 AM
I'm sure it's been discussed in the State thread, but I think we'll land a 7 seed. The dreaded 7 seed. We'll play a Midwest or west coast team. I could see Colorado, St. Mary's, or Wichita State
3/17/2013 11:58:09 AM
It used to be that a team from a weak conference with a stellar record was rated perhaps a little low but more or less in the ball park of their competence. Now, we have a team like gonzaga about to get a one seed and I guarantee every other team is praying to be in their bracket. All the experts seem to be acting as if there hands are tied when ranking them..."well, they did everything they were asked to do". They played 3 top 25 teams and beat one of them in Ok St. Not saying they are a bad team, but realistically were they coming from a decent conference they would be a 2-3 seed at best.
3/17/2013 11:59:27 AM
My vote is that we will get the 8 seed.
3/17/2013 12:23:38 PM
i'd take an 8/9 in gonzaga's bracket or a 7/10 in gtown's. we still lose to both but they're the weakest teams
3/17/2013 12:24:04 PM
Unless we're in Gonzaga's bracket, an 8/9 is the worst thing for us. I think we are poised to make a nice run, but not if we have to go through UofL or Miami
3/17/2013 12:25:32 PM
I would love a 7 seed over the 8/9.I mean, either way, you're talking win one game and play someone like Louisville in lexington KY or Kansas in Kansas City (or something like that). Not gonna be a easy road either way, but I do like that 2nd round game where teams don't get a ton of time to prep. I feel like that always benefits the teams that like to run, like us.[Edited on March 17, 2013 at 12:27 PM. Reason : asdf]
3/17/2013 12:26:49 PM
Well, Miami had one day to prep for us and totally killed our tempo.
3/17/2013 12:28:46 PM
Miami had played us before.
3/17/2013 12:35:03 PM
We're gonna be the 16 seed play-in game versus Florida A&M. Think we'll win?
3/17/2013 12:40:11 PM
That Miami game probably kept us on the eight line because we looked pretty bad. Depending on who we get we will win zero or one game this year.
3/17/2013 12:55:00 PM
I'd rather have a 10 seed than an 8/9
3/17/2013 1:04:34 PM
I'd rather be a 1 in the NIT
3/17/2013 1:11:19 PM
probably an 8 after the Miami game, but based on Kenpom we'll be in the 12 seed play-in game against UVA
3/17/2013 1:12:45 PM
8/9 would suck so hard.[Edited on March 17, 2013 at 1:43 PM. Reason : j]
3/17/2013 1:18:54 PM
Miami better be a 1 over Duke. Please don't group us with Louisville or Indiana.
3/17/2013 3:20:12 PM
i had a dream we were an 8 seed and lost to IU in OT
3/17/2013 3:23:55 PM
If State is going to make a deep tournament run like everyone wants, we are probably going to have to knock off a 1 seed. Better to catch them early when they could possibly be overlooking us.
3/17/2013 3:25:45 PM
I would take 8 in the Gonzaga bracket. No chance against IU or Louisville
3/17/2013 3:35:03 PM
The reaction video from last year still makes me smile! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ja-5Agpkn8
3/17/2013 3:38:58 PM
Hoping for a 7 seed, expecting an 8/9 in Louisville's bracket.
3/17/2013 3:39:36 PM
We'd lose to Louisville 52-45
3/17/2013 3:41:20 PM
I doubt we get a reaction like that tonight... but last year we were wondering whether we'd get in or not, plus the last selection so it was warranted
3/17/2013 3:44:24 PM
fuck it, beat 'em all
3/17/2013 3:50:58 PM
8 seed versus Missouri in Gonzaga's Bracket.
3/17/2013 3:51:45 PM
Id prefer a a 10 seed over the 8-9 then 1 seed scenario
3/17/2013 3:53:01 PM
^^ would be the best scenario you could possibly dream upon that is realistic.
3/17/2013 3:55:36 PM
So are we off the bubble yet?
3/17/2013 4:01:00 PM
There are two teams that I would want to play from the top 10 that in my mind are a class below the others -- Ohio St. and Gonzaga. Don't really care what seeding (realistically anywhere from 7-10) we get if we get those teams for potential second round matchups. I actually think we will be ok no matter our opponent in our first round as we have underachieved severely and Gott seems to get the team up for the tourneys.[Edited on March 17, 2013 at 4:08 PM. CBS and ESPN have us as an 9 or 8 seed playing Illonois or Colorado, respectively. Either way, we'd have to play Louisville (acording to them) and I just don't see that happening. If it does, I think we could actually get to the elite eight or beyond. I thought we played Miami pretty tough all things considered. Our guys were clearly tired and sore but we should be good to go in the NCAA.
3/17/2013 4:13:34 PM
Ahh nc state fansOverlooking the first game already
3/17/2013 4:14:16 PM
Louisville will destroy us we turn the ball over too much already their defense will make it ugly
3/17/2013 4:20:14 PM
their defense scares the shit out of me, but they don't shoot the ball well
3/17/2013 4:21:35 PM
Why did CBS have to hire Doug Gottlieb? Dude is a clown. Way to ruin the selection show.
3/17/2013 4:22:42 PM
I think the bracket project matrix is as good of a predictor as any in the country.ESPN never really matches up that well compared to their matrix.

i talked about this in another thread, but it's relevant here I guess just for posterity's sake. someone (http://basketballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=2053) suggested using a combination of kenpom rank and rpi rank as a way determining who was in and out of the ncaa tournament after the auto-bids had been determined. it has worked quite well in the past few years. here's how it shakes out as of this morning's rpi/kenpom ratings:Auto-bids so far:Albany, St Louis, Miami, Florida Gulf Coast, Kansas, Louisville, Montana, Liberty, Pacific, James Madison, Memphis , Valparaiso, Harvard, Iona, Akron, North Carolina A&T, Creighton, New Mexico, Long Island, Belmont, Oregon, Bucknell, Ole Miss, Davidson, Northwestern State,Southern, South Dakota State, WKU, Gonzaga, New Mexico StateCombined Rk, Team, KP, RPI1 Louisville* 2 32 Duke 5 13 Florida 1 64 Gonzaga* 4 75 Indiana 3 86 Kansas* 8 57 Ohio St. 6 11 (currently in B1G final)8 Miami FL* 14 49 New Mexico* 16 210 Michigan St. 10 911 Georgetown 12 1012 Syracuse 13 1313 Michigan 11 1714 Arizona 20 1515 Marquette 25 1216 St. Louis* 17 2017 Wisconsin 9 29 (currently in B1G final)18 Creighton* 15 2519 North Carolina 26 1620 Virginia Commonwealth 19 2321 Oklahoma St. 21 2622 Colorado St. 24 2423 Pittsburgh 7 4324 Kansas St. 30 2125 Memphis* 37 1426 Missouri 18 3527 St. Mary's 22 3128 Minnesota 23 3329 UNLV 35 2230 San Diego St. 28 3031 Middle Tennessee 32 2832 Belmont* 45 1833 North Carolina St. 34 3234 Notre Dame 31 3635 Wichita St. 33 3736 Butler 52 1937 UCLA 44 2738 Illinois 42 3939 Iowa St. 36 4540 Colorado 50 3841 Cincinnati 40 4942 Ole Miss* 39 5043 Oregon* 43 4644 Southern Mississippi 56 3445 Boise St. 49 4446 Oklahoma 51 4247 La Salle 57 4048 Villanova 46 5149 Akron* 54 4750 Connecticut 53 4851 Virginia 27 74---------------------IN/OUT-----------------------52 Kentucky 47 5653 Denver 38 6954 Baylor 41 6755 Iowa 29 7956 Temple 68 4157 California 60 5358 Bucknell* 62 5259 Davidson* 58 6260 Alabama 61 60 There are 31 auto-bids, leaving 37 at-large bids. I've counted up these remaining 37 from the non-auto-bids. UConn and UVA are tied using this very basic metric. We'll see. Edit: UConn ineligible.[Edited on March 17, 2013 at 4:32 PM. 3/17/2013 4:29:59 PM
^UConn is ineligible this year
3/17/2013 4:31:29 PM
Hah. well that answers that question.
3/17/2013 4:32:01 PM
Sir Charles
3/17/2013 5:47:47 PM
we really don't deserve a top-10 if you think about ithaven't shown up in the top-40 of the coach's or media polls over the past 2 monthswe're a legit 11 or 12 seed, but they'll probably give us a 7 or 8 because of name and fanbase
3/17/2013 5:50:13 PM
Gonzaga dude got some crazy eyes going on
3/17/2013 5:53:22 PM
Whew we avoid Louisville at least
3/17/2013 6:03:42 PM
UL as the top seed is good.Oregon has been the only one screwed so far at a 12 seed I figured at least a 10 for them.
3/17/2013 6:05:07 PM
Lol duke did not avoid them however
3/17/2013 6:05:31 PM
Damn, we may have to play in
3/17/2013 6:06:47 PM
Why not have a commercial break after every team? God I fucking hate CBS's coverage.
3/17/2013 6:07:45 PM
thats a REALLY tough bracket for the #1 overall seed.Duke, Michigan St, OK State, St. Louisall good teams.
3/17/2013 6:08:55 PM
Sweet 16 is always tougher teams but they have a cakewalk to get there
3/17/2013 6:09:46 PM
so does that mean that Duke is the lowest of the four #2 seeds?ie best #1 seed, worst #2 seed, best #3 seed, worst #4 seed, etc? isn't that how they do it?
