^This part "HB185 would put at the top of the ballot the party of the current governor, followed by the other parties in alphabetical order" definitely is. That other part seemed a little off.It smells funny, but I don't know that anyone has taken the time to review all the incumbent's names to see exactly how that would play out, although I suspect those pushing the bill probably know.
3/4/2013 2:19:41 PM
Should just make a law that anyone with last name starting with Mc-Z vote for Republicans and A-Ma vote for democrats
3/4/2013 2:24:59 PM
^^That must be the reason. Otherwise it just seems bizarre.
3/4/2013 3:10:04 PM
If the point is that people are going in and voting for the first name on the ballot, we've got bigger problems.
3/4/2013 3:26:04 PM
This is pretty slimy."if it ain't broke, don't fix it"
3/4/2013 3:30:59 PM
3/4/2013 3:43:46 PM
Should switch to randomized ballots.
3/4/2013 6:35:14 PM
I'd be fine with the elimination of straight party tickets.

3/4/2013 9:56:37 PM
Democrats should rename their party as the "Qemocats."Fuck it, why bother? Sounds like NC is trying to give SC a run for it's money these days.
3/4/2013 10:04:03 PM
Oh man I misread. Alphabetical by party, based on the governor's last name? What a ridiculous power grab.
3/4/2013 10:13:36 PM
It's sure to backfire once Governor Aardvark gets into office.
3/4/2013 10:20:06 PM
3/5/2013 12:19:05 AM
If NC is gonna insist on using voting machines anyway, it would make sense to have the machines just randomize the order of the names each time.
3/5/2013 8:29:23 AM
^^Actually, shed be at the very end of the list since "Ma" comes before "Mc"...unless they are using that weird version of alphabetizing that puts all of the "Mc" names before the rest of the "M"s.

Just got an e-mail saying they're starting to move a bill that:Shortens early voting by a weekEliminate early voting on Sundays (African American churches are particularly active on Sundays, its the only voting day where in NC African American voters make up almost 50% of the electorate. Given how explicitly race-based redistricting was, trying to eliminate this isn't much of a surprise.)Eliminate same day registrationRestore partisan judicial electionsRepeals Judicial Public financing (means judges now have to raise money from those bringing cases before them)Eliminate straight-ticket votingChange the order of the ballot (to benefit Republicans)Making it easier to obtain an absentee ballot (Republicans use this more & through fraud isn't a huge issue, it is more prevalent for absentee voting, thus undermining their claims about photo ID being b/c they care about stopping fraud)College students in particular often use early voting, often use same day registration, and student IDs don't have addresses and if college students have driver licenses they are rarely updating the address when they move to their college town, and every time they change dorms/apartment, so that might hit young voters too.One of the Pope funded groups already said college were the reason Republicans were doing better in elections and that "balance" needs to be restored to college (as the in the Fox News Fair & Balanced kind of balance), although now it seems like they're just slashing college budgets and maybe eliminating some college campuses in NC to cut off that problem at the source.I guess whatever it takes to make the electorate older and whiter to get Renee "I hate muslims" Ellmers elected to the Senate right?http://www.wral.com/ellmers-considers-2014-senate-run/12275119/[Edited on March 28, 2013 at 1:22 PM. you really are a conspiracy theorist aren't you? it's not just trolling?
3/28/2013 3:20:52 PM
^^ Link? House/Senate bill numbers? Did your email include source information?
3/28/2013 3:23:24 PM
It's on WRALs site. Some of it at least. These new bills are ridiculous.
3/28/2013 3:29:15 PM
http://www.wral.com/gop-seeks-to-curb-early-voting/12280309/What's the rational for these changes? Do they have one, besides "it'll help us win"? There's nothing "conspiratorial" in thinking this is totally shady.V thanks for the suggstions, but I somehow doubt they'd give an honest answer.[Edited on March 28, 2013 at 4:12 PM. Reason : ]

^ Just a suggestion, but you can always pick up the phone and call the primary sponsor or co-sponsors and ask them directly. Or even email them, you'd be surprised at how often legislators respond to a reasonably worded email. Most legislators have an office phone and cell/home phone listed on their NCGA profile page. It helps if you're one of their constituents, but I've found most of them more than willing to discuss issues they're pushing.

I'm assuming we can expect Rep. Starnes to vote against the hunting on Sunday bill.or is hunting not included in the "things you shouldn't do on sundays"

^you know, you really start to dillute the good points you actually make when you blatantly nitpick over completely partisan bullshit. i know you think conservatives are evil and all, but come on...not to mention the title of this thread is false and misleading, as if the R's are sticking their name on top under any circumstance. if you have forgotten, dems have controlled the governor's office for most of all our lifetimes, and this could just as easily end up playing to their advantage. (and either way, only slightly, as if people change their names at the ballot box over the candidate listings)
4/3/2013 3:46:01 PM
i think it's a pretty apparent attempt to keep college kids from voting, and we know which party the majority of them vote for. do you think there's a different motive?[Edited on April 3, 2013 at 3:48 PM. Reason : ]

i was discussing the subject matter and title of the thread. i'm not sure why he chose to post that link when it doesn't seem related to the original thread topic. i do not support the second bill he posted.but once again, you never cease to amaze me with your incorrect assumptions[Edited on April 3, 2013 at 3:56 PM. 4/3/2013 3:55:30 PM
If I made a new thread for every effort to manipulate the vote coming out of Raleigh, that'd be quite a lot of threads. So I've just been adding to this one as new bills come up. Is your concern really about the finer points of posting etiquette though?
4/3/2013 3:57:22 PM
^^your ability to get offended by posts on a message board that aren't even directed at you ceases to amaze me (and please don't pm me over this)Why don't you counter his specific points if you think he's so wrong and it bothers you so much.[Edited on April 3, 2013 at 3:58 PM. Reason : ]
4/3/2013 3:58:33 PM
^^no, i stated my issue with you and the subject of this thread, did you bother to read it?and lol at your suggestion that you dont already make "quite a lot of threads" about the same shit over and over^i made statement directed at the op until you decided to jump in and derail...my butt, it hurts[Edited on April 3, 2013 at 4:00 PM. 4/3/2013 3:59:30 PM
You're the one derailing man. Again, why not address specific bills?
4/3/2013 4:03:55 PM
i was talking about the bill that is the subject of the thread i'm posting ini don't feel the point i was making is that difficult to understandthe title of the thread implies one thing, the bill means another, and supplanter knows thatplease stop trolling[Edited on April 3, 2013 at 4:08 PM. Reason : is the caret confusing you...i mean what the fuck]
4/3/2013 4:06:33 PM
haha, ok dude.
4/3/2013 4:10:31 PM
Well, maybe now the thread is "GA voter manipulation," or whatever, but it doesn't change the fact Supplanter is overdoing it with the General Assembly threads.I have no problem whatsoever with what he's talking about, but lets stick these all in one place.
4/3/2013 5:16:02 PM
^ Or at least have a thread dedicated only to bills/resolutions that have only been introduced vs. a separate thread for bills/resolutions that actually make it out of committee and have a chance of becoming actual law.
