So I bought an 08 chevy truck from a dealership back home. I drive it for 3500 miles and it started skipping while on 40 one day. I check the oil and nothing registers on the dipstick. I add 4 quarts of oil to get it to the dealership. They say that these particular trucks are supposed to use oil (according to gm) because of the active fuel management system. Anyway, they add some diverter to the oil pan or something. A few weeks later I check the oil again and it's low. I take it back and they say oh we need to do an oil consumption test which requires me to drive back every 1000 miles so they can check the oil. I do that and its still using a lot so they replace rings and pistons. About a week after I pick it up it starts skipping and throws a code. I take it back again and the shop foreman can only get it to replicate it once and can't figure out the issue. They give it back to me after a week and say bring it back when it happens again. The past week it has been skipping badly while idling. I told the owner I wanted them to buy it back from me. They offer me $19,500 on trade (I paid $21,400) but they have zero vehicles I'm interested in. This thing has had a major issue since I pulled it off the lot. My business revolves around my truck. I just want out of it at this point. I asked the owner to make me an offer to just buy it back and seems like I'm being ignored. You guys have any ideas of what I can do. I know that's a risk you take buying a used car but this is from a reputable dealership and it had the problem when I left the lot.

http://www.wral.com/5onyourside/I'd personally ask them one more time to buy it back, file a lemon report on it, and park it outside the entrance to their lot and stand in the truck bed with a sign telling people not to buy from them. Bad publicity would fix your problem real fast.

yup.thats basically what it will take.and that whole we dont have a truck you like thing is BSthey have a search they can find just about any type of truck you want. They have been fairly helpful it seems...but id still steer clear of them.If they offered 21k id take it.

does it have the 5.3L V8?if so, you may not be the only one. Lots of google hits by searching "2008 Chevy truck burning oil"I haven't really found anything credible that seemed to suggest a fix but I didn't comb through it all.A couple things:Monitor and document your oil use closely. If you pay a mechanic to change your oil go behind them and make sure the oil filter is on tight and that they didn't overfill with oil (I've heard of dealerships slightly overfilling on oil so that as the oil is consumed it will last an extra few hundred miles before the oil light/oil pressure indicates a problem)I've heard other car dealerships make the claim that pretty bad oil consumption is normal in their cars. A friend is having oil consumption problems (in this case about 3/4 of a quart every ~1000 miles or so) in his Honda and they give him the same shtick. If it were a reasonable amount of oil loss I wouldn't think twice but I thought that was really excessive. Do any of the gurus on here want to comment on that? Just doesn't seem legit.

2012 Depreciation per mile - $.23$0.23*3500=$805$21,400-$805 = $20,595That's what I would settle for, the price of the vehicle less the worth you got out of it before you had problems.

based on lost time, I would want a full refund myself.

their offer seems almost fair if they'd offer you 19,5k cash, not trade.you have to consider the mileage you've put on the truck, that depreciates the value faster vs. it just sitting on their lot.how many miles have you driven it? what is it worth with the current mileage?

I have driven the truck roughly 10,000 miles. At this point I would gladly take $19,500 cash for it. I have asked several times what they would give me in cash and no one seems to be able to answer it. I know why they want me to do a trade in on it because they're going to work a deal to where they can still make money. They are starting to make me really angry.I'd hate for the first Google Result when searching for their name to reveal that they sold me cocaine laced with deworming agent[Edited on February 26, 2013 at 8:19 PM.
