http://www.southsidesox.com/2013/1/30/3933664/white-sox-sign-andrew-brackman

Folks on the southside aren't stoked about the B-rack signing:

Quote :
"...two weeks after signing, he underwent the surgery. It's been downhill from there, as Brackman never solved control issues."

Quote :
"He pitched for the Yankees' Low-A affiliate in 2009 and basically stunk."

Quote :
"He gave all that goodwill back with a piss poor showing at AAA in 2011, as well as in a September cameo for the major league club, and, consequently, the Yankees elected to not exercise his 2012 option and released him."

Quote :
"The Reds picked him up on a major league deal and he really went for it at AAA Louisville, where he tossed batting practice to the tune of a 9.87 ERA and a 1.976 WHIP in five starts that lasted a total of 17.1 innings."

Quote :
"Turning around one of the biggest draft busts in history would be a remarkable feat."

I'll take it! In such a weak division, that might be enough to clinch

The Tigers ate going to shit on all of the teams in the central this year.

I'm more afraid of the royals getting better.

Royals offense was pretty damned good last year and should be better this year. If, and it's a big if, James Shields can be an inning eater with a sub 4.0 ERA we'll win at least 10 more games than last year.

Hosmer, Moustakis, Gordon, Butler is a pretty nice young core to the lineup that is only going to improve as Hosmer and Moustakis increase the power numbers.

Hey, if the White Sox could contend for the division into September last year so can Cleveland this year. That being said, nobody is going to pick the Sox or Cleveland to win the division in March. Both teams are .500 teams on paper. Also, fuck the Tribe.

I'm really conflicted watching this team. Not very talented. No more Ozzie or AJ to hate. Ventura and Steve Stone so likable. Guess I'll just have to focus my rage at Hawk.

Reed looking good so far this year. His emergence will be key as pitching will have to carry you guys with your strikeout heavy lineup

^ baby steps

btw, sucks to hear about Gavin. that's a hell of a recovery time prognosis. 14-19 months away from the game. He'll probably never pitch another inning with the White Sox. Good write-up from ESPN:

Quote :
"The right-hander was one of just four pitchers in the American League to reach double digits in victories in each of the past five seasons. He joined the Detroit Tigers' Justin Verlander, the Los Angeles Angels' Jered Weaver and James Shields, formerly of the Tampa Bay Rays and now of the Kansas City Royals, in that category.

Since 2008, Floyd had the fifth-most victories in the AL with 62, and also was fifth in starts with 153. He was sixth in both quality starts (86) and innings pitched (948 1/3), while ranking seventh in strikeouts with 754."

If you can stomach Hawk saying "HE GON" 12 times in this video, you're a real fan.

this is upsetting news (although I'm sure he'd sign a one-day contract with the Sox upon retiring):

Quote :
"White Sox are currently in trade talks for a three team deal with the Angels and Diamondbacks that would send Paul Konerko to Arizona and Jessie Crain/Hector Santiago to LA. In return the Sox would get Paul Goldschmidt and Alberto Callaspio"
