What items made only in the 80s/90s/2000s do you think will be the most collectible in the future?[Edited on February 22, 2013 at 4:10 PM. Reason : ]

Old school video games like NES and Atari

NES/SNES games, especially RPGs have a ton of value in the used market right now.

I know one thing, it isn't mid to late 80s and early 90s baseball cards. They're worth much less now than what I spent on them then.
2/22/2013 4:46:45 PM
i dunno why old video games would be so collectible when you can just download them all and use an emulator
2/22/2013 4:57:51 PM
don't know. but if you have a copy of Chrono Trigger or Earthbound you could make a quick $50 or $80-100 respectively]

I was thinking those America Online diskettes/cds with interesting graphics / tin cases might some day be collectible. I started collecting them as a kid when they came in the mail. Maybe in the next 20-30 years?

As a general rule, the things not meant to be collected are the most valuable, then you get into condition, rarity, etc. Pretty simple concept, really...

^^lol, we just threw one of those out helping my buddy move into his new house last weekend. 1000 free hours.

Beanie BabiesPlease let Beanie Babies be the most valuable collectible ever. I have over 100 Beanie Babies with the tags on sitting in my parent's attic

Jodie SweetinA smart investor would have bought that during her meth phase.

I'd like to have every GI Joe and Star Wars toys I had as a kid in the original package. But most of the action figures ended up limbless, blown to pieces or filled with BB holes. Lol
2/22/2013 8:48:22 PM
^a very good example as to why what I said was true. Most people didn't just leave those things in their packages. They bought them for the kids to play with, hence, not meant to be collected. The toy market has changed drastically though, and it's controlled/flooded by people who don't understand the simple concepts of collectible items. Whoever mentioned Beanie Babies, you're a casualty of this. Beanie Babies, with the exception of an elite rare few, will continue to decline to worthlessness.

Target brand shit...if Target were to go belly-up.

^^i guess i just dont get it...repeated blowing into an NES cartridge and reloading it a few times before you finally get it to work might be a childhood memory, but I'd be content with loading Super Mario Bros in the emulator and getting my nostalgia factor on from hearing the opening music of "deh neh neh, duh neh NEH, nuh" as i started playing level 1-1

Tecmo Super Bowl is way more fun with a controller than using Z, X, and arrow keys.
2/23/2013 1:06:10 AM
most old console games are more fun with a controllerbut you can get a programmable USB gamepad which pretty much solves that problemI played a shitload of old NES emulated games a few years ago with one when I had to send my 360 off to Micro$oft for a couple weeks for repairs]

^^True. Maybe some day some genius will invent a way to use a controller with a computer! Until that magical day....[Edited on February 23, 2013 at 1:11 AM. Reason : A]

This is going to sound stupid, and it probably is: it never occurred to me that people make USB NES controllers.
2/23/2013 1:15:41 AM
my USB controller has either 4 or 6 buttons, can't rememberbut you only use 2 for NES games, its not really that much different than using an actual NES controller
2/23/2013 1:22:40 AM
I was picturing something like the old Gravis Gamepad, and then realized I'd be disappointed playing an NES game that way.Sure enough, Google turns up a USB gamepad that looks and functions exactly like an NES controller.

I have a rather large collection of He-Man action, and I have a small hope that a He-Man movie will come out one day so I can sell them.
