Couple of old threads but nothing that covered exactly what I'm looking for.Want to box up all my CDs and put them into storage so I'm planning on taking my library and ripping into a lossless format, pull all the metadata and organizing into a logical structure on my home server. Looking for recommendations on an alternative to iTunes. I know there are a bunch of options but I was looking for recommendations. Interested in1. Which preferred lossless format Flac, ALAC, other.2. Ripper/Organizer that will pull the proper metadata and organize without a lot of library garbage like iTunes.

If you have iPods/iPhones/AppleTVs/Airport Expresses that you listen to music to, then ALAC.If not, then ALAC and FLAC are the same, but FLAC has a tiny bit better compression.iTunes is also good for ripping, not sure what you mean by "library garbage."

^basically I just want a nice clean directory structure that isn't dependant on a specific program. Don't need or really want a bunch of album art, extraneous metadata or config files, etc mixed in with the music.

^&^^lol yeah is partly just to have it on my fancy server box but I do have some eclectic albums(imports, soundtracks, bootlegs) that aren't on spotify/streaming services and would like to just be able to have backups and pack my discs away without feeling I have to go dig through if I want something specific.
