Blackberry (formerly RIM) is launching BlackBerry 10 and their new phones today. As someone who was excited about WP8 but was left disappointed with the result, the z10 with BB10 looks really nice. The launch event is going on now:http://new.livestream.com/cnet/blackberry10http://gizmodo.com/5980176/this-is-the-new-blackberry-z10http://live.arstechnica.com/blackberry-10-launch-event-wednesday-january-30/I like it so far

it looks pretty goodand if you factor in it's coming from blackberry, it looks amazing

Even though I am not into using it personally, but the Story Maker is pretty awesome for Social Media fiends.

WP8 users are going to be so mad that the BB store will have next day tv shows and same-day-as-dvd movies to download (WP8 store doesn't have videos).
1/30/2013 11:02:14 AM
Over 70k apps already, WP8 users so mad
1/30/2013 11:04:19 AM
Yeah I am pretty pissed that they will have have more day one options and will grow faster than WP8. I have not got my WP8 yet, I might just get a BlackBerry! Kidding, but man WP8 REALLY needs dev support.
haha, coworker who got a WP8 phone and complains about it daily just said he is buying the z10 even though he has to pay full retail.

the 8 app limit for the homescreen is annoying, that might be the deal-breaker for me. they should allow you to at least make some of those things permanent.
1/30/2013 11:34:28 AM
Too little too late IMHO.
1/30/2013 11:34:32 AM
They'll be fine if they can get the enterprise market
1/30/2013 11:35:10 AM
doesn't appear to have the same functionality as old bes and doesn't come with a physical keyboard, which is what keeps old bad devices in peoples' hands
1/30/2013 11:55:55 AM
one of the devices has a physical keyboard, the z10 does notalso, very few people want physical keyboards now
1/30/2013 12:06:05 PM
I hope they make one that doesn't have a camera on it. I personally know some people that have jobs were cameras are not allowed on site no even in your vehicle.
1/30/2013 12:08:33 PM
blackberry is still a thing?
1/31/2013 9:38:04 AM
I really like the idea of having two completely separate profiles to keep work and personal separate, they can lock down, wipe, clear whatever to the corporate side and you can keep your personal info entirely separate.
1/31/2013 9:40:20 AM
I mean, it would pretty much take a Blackberry that can suck your dick for it to gain back any the market share its lost to Android/iphone over the past 5 years. Am I correct?

it's hard to guess what the public 'wants' but the market says that the public doesn't care enough about a physical keyboard

i think people convince themselves they dont want a physical keyboard because the latest and greatest androids and iphones dont have them, but they have better hardware specs, graphics, etcsure a physical keyboard is no big deal for unlocking your pin or typing in a url or sending a text, but its a pain in the ass to send an email longer than 2 sentencesmy droid has a slideout keyboard...i dont use it all the time, but its very very handy when i do need to use it]

Correct - but segregation of corporate vs personal has been possible without having distinct profiles built in to the OS
1/31/2013 2:33:50 PM
gotchai never claimed to be an android expert (because i'm FAR from it)...but i've spent enough time in the ROM community that i would have been surprised to find out that user profiles had been built in since froyo
1/31/2013 2:41:51 PM
I wouldn't have minded trying out the new blackberry, but my company is replacing all blackberrys with iphones and I would never buy a blackberry for personal use. Also, has anyone used the Good app for work?
1/31/2013 9:07:36 PM
after spending the past year with my playbook that i got for a $teal i'm routing for bb. i found it hard to go back to my android device after using such an intuitive interface. if BB steps their app game up they might have a chance. as consumers we should all be pushing for any competition especially when your choices have basically eroded down to galaxy or iphone .

And don't you have to pay for RIM expensive data plan to use the BlackBerry servers or am I blowing hot air?
2/2/2013 6:10:43 PM
completely false. you just don't have to pay for BBM
2/2/2013 6:28:25 PM
OK. I thought I wrong I was just checking.
2/2/2013 7:59:12 PM
AT&T typical requires an enterprise data plan for corporate phones which I would think is pointless and just a reason for AT&T to overcharge businesses.

no need to make a new thread:anybody with a blackberry know how to get the gmail app? I had it for my first few months, but over the weekend, it stopped working. Tried to find it on the app store, but apparently it no longer exists and a google search says blackberry no longer supports gmail
5/19/2013 11:38:33 PM
i had one of the new z10s through work for about 24 hours. it was dogshit. it was an improvement over every other blackberry device but outside of that universe, its still lagging significantly. i returned it to our IT guys less than 24 hours after i got it.
5/20/2013 10:02:02 AM
what specifically blew about it?
5/20/2013 1:33:45 PM
5/20/2013 5:03:09 PM
right, and you guys are not many people. even if every single BB owner wanted a physical keyboard (which is a big overestimate), that's just a few percent of cell phone users. The majority of users prefer screen space to keyboard.
5/20/2013 5:15:38 PM
5/20/2013 11:25:33 PM
Yes, but the onscreen keyboard isn't always on the screen.
5/20/2013 11:30:15 PM
Look, guys, I understand your points and preferences about physical keyboards, they make sense. I'm just pointing out that you guys represent a tiny percent of the market.
