1/16/2013 5:04:48 PM
first episode was pretty good, Spacey is excellent as usual
2/1/2013 1:51:27 PM
Yea, I really enjoyed it. I also liked Spacey having his little asides with the audience. Thought that was quite funny.
2/1/2013 3:29:18 PM
So good! Any chance to see Kate Mara is a good time!
2/1/2013 7:56:57 PM
^now that piques my interest.

2/1/2013 9:05:44 PM
I will be quite sober unless the game involves every time I get to stare at Kate Mara...
2/1/2013 9:10:34 PM
Episode 1 was on fucking point. "I'm feeling hungry today."
2/1/2013 10:54:31 PM
is there only one episode up so far? iirc they went ahead and put all 6 episodes of Lilyhammer up from the jumpoff
2/1/2013 10:55:54 PM
The whole 1st season is available today. I restarted my membership to Netflix just for this.
2/1/2013 10:58:46 PM
It is all up. I personally only had time to watch the Pilot episode though. Busy weekend FTL.
2/1/2013 10:59:22 PM
just started episode 6. It's good.
2/2/2013 1:16:12 AM
I got up to 8 before i had to stop. Bad fuckin ass show. Netflix really showing some promise with their original programming.
2/2/2013 3:02:26 AM
man i didn't even consider that they'd put the full season up at one time. this is a game changer... unless they do this all the time.and boss was on starz, it was a gritty drama about the mayor of chicago, starring kelsey grammar. i found it boring.
2/2/2013 3:33:14 AM
"where are ya'll from...cunt"
2/2/2013 4:15:33 AM
They did the same thing with Lillyhammer, putting the whole season up at once. I am now through two episodes myself.
2/2/2013 6:24:50 AM
All this time I've been hoping that we could get online-only subscriptions for HBO and Showtime soonfuck that, let Netflix take that role. This show is great, really hope Netflix continues with original programming with this kind of quality.
2/2/2013 10:17:33 AM
^ online only accounts for those networks will NEVER happen

I don't understand what Netflix is doing here. They produce a quality show, and then allow the entire series to be viewed in one sitting? People at least order HBO for the duration of the GoT season. Maybe for season 2 they'll drag it out? I mean its good for people who need instant gratification, but it doesn't seem like a sound business move, unless they are just hooking people for season 2.
2/5/2013 8:18:03 AM
^This is how Netflix does it. They don't need the gimmick of posting them once a week. They did the exact same thing for Lillyhammer. I personally like it a lot better. I hope Netflix does not change this myself. It really sets them apart from traditional TV and allows people to watch the show how they want, all at once or staggered out. I am just finishing up episode 9 right now.
2/5/2013 8:24:41 AM
Show is great, but I don't feel like we can really discuss it here, given the nature of its availability. I'm going to create another thread for full spoiler discussion.[Edited on February 5, 2013 at 8:59 AM. Reason : unless, of course, Jeepin objects...]
2/5/2013 8:59:23 AM
^I will admit, one issue that does arise from the instant series release is that you can no longer discuss it as a group and assume that everybody is on the same page as you. For example, I just finished Chapter 9 and now only have 3 chapters to go. Others have already completed it, while some have likely not even started or gotten past chapter 1.
2/5/2013 9:13:36 AM
Spacey nailed the accent. Just watching the premiere now.
2/5/2013 9:43:38 AM
^5 I read an article explaining their whole "binge viewing" thing but I can't find it now.Basically they do it that way because they don't have to worry about generating high ratings in a particular time slot in order get more ad revenue. All they care about is if you keep paying your subscription.[Edited on February 5, 2013 at 10:10 AM. Reason : .]
2/5/2013 10:09:13 AM
But that is the thing - HBO doesn't care about ad revenue either - they care about how long they can keep you subscribed. What keeps people from just signing up to Netflix for 1 month to watch the series. I realize they probably think that if they can get people to check out the show and then look at their selection, they might get a few people to stay on. Their instant selection isn't really enough to grab people long term though.
2/5/2013 10:47:40 AM
their instant selection is pretty vast...i've been paying $7.99 or $8.99 a month for years, something like House of Cards is just a bonus
2/5/2013 10:51:12 AM
yeah even though the movie selection isn't great, they have enough TV and documentary content that the price tag is pretty dirt-cheap still for what you get. We've been long term subscribers. And while we aren't just sitting in front of the TV all the time, even a couple episodes of something a week over a month and the subscription still is a great value.I do however agree that from a business standpoint it does probably make more sense to drag it out slightly.[Edited on February 5, 2013 at 11:03 AM. Reason : ]
2/5/2013 10:58:45 AM
I think its good for the consumer to put everything out like that but I don't understand any business logic for it.Not saying it needs to be endlessly dragged out but if you're working on a subscription model you'd think you might want to space it out say a couple months by doing an episode or two a week.
2/5/2013 11:01:08 AM
I've been a long term subscriber as well, and I'm glad they didn't drag it out. Just doesn't make any sense to me.
2/5/2013 11:33:31 AM
2/5/2013 12:34:26 PM
makes perfect sense to menon-subscribers feel like they're missing out on a good show, they sign up, watch the show, see all the other good stuff on there, stick around for a few months.
2/5/2013 12:56:05 PM
I will also say that if you have a series which you plan to do multiple seasons on you probably should space it out some too. You probably don't want to let people burn through 20 episodes in a weekend and have to wait a year to get the next season only to do it again. That's probably not the best thing both creatively or for building a following of your show. While I think the idea of appointment television as it used to be is definitely dead, I think you still want to keep a buzz and some anticipation that will help.I mean people still get psyched for Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones, etc and it adds something to the experience.
