Word on the London streets is make sure to watch the Christmas Special before starting Season 3.Mum's the word.
1/14/2013 10:17:40 AM
the 2011 Christmas special was great! I have a coworker who is watching season 3 without ever watching season 2. Just went from season 1 on netflix to season 3 on PBS.... They keep asking me to fill them in on certain things
1/14/2013 10:26:14 AM
tell him/her to download season 2even if you don't want to get on torrent sites, you can still watch it on HuluPlus

Boo-hooing over Ethel.
1/20/2013 10:53:58 PM
she did the right thing though. Probably should have gone it when it was first offered instead of "going down the road to ruin" lolthis was kind of a boring episode. I hope there's more drama next week!
1/21/2013 10:34:37 AM
Well, that was depressing

1/31/2013 7:12:09 PM
ok what the fuck is the christmas episode? I finished season 2 and i couldn't figure out if I was supposed to start S3 or watch the special. Immediately I realized something was off, but checked wikipedia and the release timelines and everything pointed to xmas. So I powered through it.FML S3 picks up after S2 ends and the special appears to be sometime after S3?Whoops, maybe I watched the wrong christmas episode? Forgot that S3 is probably only 6 episodes that could have feasibly aired on BBC before the end of 2012?S1 -> S2 -> 2011 Xmas -> S3 -> 2012 Xmas?[Edited on February 3, 2013 at 2:51 PM. Reason : .]

The Christmas special has not aired in the US yet. It will in a few weeks.8 episodes + Christmas special = s3.[Edited on February 3, 2013 at 2:59 PM. Reason : ]

the Christmas specials are always between seasonsAnd yes, Downton Abbey season 3 and the Christmas special have all already played in the UK which is why you can torrent all of the above online
2/4/2013 3:19:49 PM
^Right, I for some reason didn't think BBC since when I streamed S1 it was PBS Masterpiece Theatre. So after Netflix ran out I looked for S2. I knew the special was between seasons I just grabbed the wrong one.So after Season 2 I had season 3 episode 1 and 2012 christmas special queued up trying to figure out which to watch. I didn't want to inadvertently spoil anything by browsing threads or wiki entries for too long and thought for sure S3E01 would recap the xmas events.tl;dr: I thought it was a PBS venture and that since 1/2013 was Season 3 that 12/2012 had to be the right special to watch after Season 2.
2/4/2013 4:35:10 PM
without giving away spoilers, the christmas special redeems the season finale imo. season finale left me rolling my eyes.
2/4/2013 5:21:39 PM
i've learned a lot about pre-eclampsia and eclampsia on Wiki in the last 15 mins.
2/4/2013 10:43:57 PM
So is season 3 the last season that they're making? Seems like I heard that somewhere.
2/5/2013 7:25:50 AM
Not true: they're definitely doing a season 4

Spoiler alert They said on the new that a main character might die. I thought it might be the baby, then thought everything was ok, but once I saw him in the car I knew he was a goner.[Edited on February 17, 2013 at 11:03 PM. Reason : U]
2/17/2013 11:03:22 PM
So was that the Christmas special?
2/17/2013 11:12:19 PM
Not cool.
2/17/2013 11:13:25 PM
Yes, that was the Christmas specialand yeah, people knew he wanted to leave the showbased on the setting, I was waiting on a hunting accident the whole time I was watching that episodein any case, he's really dead and I hope this show doesn't become THE EDITH SHOW next season
2/17/2013 11:26:34 PM
........ugly cry.
2/18/2013 12:13:26 AM
Edith is unremarkable, I'm sure they wouldn't focus on her character. More likely Rose will get the most attention. And why would he want to leave a solid gravy train? Does he think he can do better? I know many tv actors have thought the same thing and fell flat on their faces.
2/18/2013 7:09:53 AM
If any of the cast starts hinting that they might want to leave, Julian Fellowes kills their character off.
2/18/2013 9:19:13 AM
Two good articleshttp://insidetv.ew.com/2013/02/17/downton-abbey-matthew-death/?hpt=hp_t3http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/showtracker/la-et-st-downton-abbey-recap-finale-matthew-death-20130217,0,4394373.storyI think I've gone through all five stages of grief since last night.
2/18/2013 1:06:34 PM
^^ Honestly, can you think of a better way to write him off of the show besides killing him?Everyone would've been much more upset had he run away with some other chick, etc- it would've had to be something entirely out of character for Matthew
2/18/2013 2:09:11 PM
I can understand the death having to happen but the execution (lol pun) was just way too harsh for me. Maybe a little good bye deathbed scene? I dont know. But the dead face and eyes and the blood running down...
2/18/2013 2:36:16 PM
My gf had a pretty trying day at the hospital yesterday with family, and was looking forward to a relaxing evening watching this. apparently it was pretty upsetting.

I just heard about Call the Midwife. Season 2 starts this Sunday on PBS so I figured I'd mention it here for the PBS viewers.I haven't seen Season 1, but it was enthusiastically/aggressively recommended to me as meticulous, gritty, heartwarming, every positive adjective ever.
