Sometimes, jokes are funny precisely because they're horrible and stupid. Like, the funny part isn't the joke but just how awful it is. It seems really unwise to allow a moment like this to be filmed, and his attitude does indicate something about our society that is worth examining, but it doesn't seem right to single him out. (And I definitely hope nobody was filming when I was drunk and laughing hysterically at my own Eight Belles jokes.)Now I couldn't actually watch the whole video because this guy is so very obnoxious...but did he really confess to taking part in a crime? Also, do dudes normally scratch their crotches that aggressively in front of each other?

I'm not a lawyer, and I hope all rapist burn in hell, but how damning is this video? This dumbass appears to be in an idiotic drunken rant, not of sound mind. I mean, what if he said he flew to the moon yesterday, does that mean he actually did...there is no proof. I read the website, and the girl didn't go to get physically checked the next morning (she was talked out of it?), so all evidence is gone. Now, we have a he said/she said, which is really tough to prove in court, so I hear. If these guys did what she says, I too hope they spend many years getting violated in prison, but I believe it may be a tough case to prove, especially if eye witnesses are not coming forward.

One or two of the guys in the backgrounds mention the accused by name. I believe one of the lines was, "They raped that girl" and they kept saying Trent and Malik. One of the guys in the background was really upset and trying to call one of them over and over. I think he intended on going over there but I'm not sure if he ever did. I think if they have someone come out and spill the beans, it would be that guy. If you watch the video he's the one saying he had a little sister.

^^It's not a "he said/she said" situation because she's not saying what happened. She can't say because she was unconscious. There are photographs that seem to confirm that she was unconscious and numerous witnesses that can confirm it, too. There are also witnesses who admit that sexual contact with the unconscious victim took place in their presence. From what we can tell, Trent Mays, and later Malik Richmond, toted this girl around to multiple locations in various states of undress and openly assaulted her, as onlookers took pictures and tweeted about it.How did you get "he said/she said" from any of this?

i don't know bridget, i didn't read it about the sexual contact happening openly in front of witnesses (well, witnesses that are talking anyways). i did read that there were the several parties that she was dragged to, and others saw her in a drunken/drugged state. it seemed the sexual conduct was happening behind closed doors. i just wish she had of gone to get checked the next morning to provide further evidence, and taken her urine soaked clothes for testing as well. 5 or 6 different specimens documented would definitely have put a nail in this coffin. and, i didn't take your comment in a 'sassy' way. i just really wanted some feedback on how damning this video is.

1/7/2013 5:58:29 PM
^ got it at http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/01/07/the-saddest-graph-youll-see-today/It's from the Enliven Project:http://theenlivenproject.com/the-truth-about-false-accusation/Which cites its sources as:
1/7/2013 6:02:17 PM
The main issue I have is that the "falsely accused" should be in the "reported" square, since the falsely accused are all a subset of those who are reported and not some nebulous and undefined number of "rapists"Also since not every rape that faced trial ended in jail time, does it just assume that everyone who wasn't convicted just got away with it?And how exactly do they get the information as to how many people are raped but don't report it?
1/7/2013 6:13:57 PM
1/7/2013 6:29:45 PM
They put faced charges into the reported category instead of separating it out, why wouldn't they do the same with falsely accused?so they just made up the number of rapes, that is kind of what I figured.EDIT: Also the point of this graph (maybe not officially) is to provide a tool to handwave away the possibility that a certain rape might be a false accusation, so people can post this and say "look, only .2 percent of rapes are falsely reported!". But that would be an incorrect use of statistics, since whatever the case in question is has already been reported and thus the chance that it's falsely reported is back up to 2%.[Edited on January 7, 2013 at 6:54 PM. ^The number of unreported rapes appears to be gleaned from a big survey they've been doing since the 1940s. And the "faced trial," "reported," and "jailed" men supposedly represent actual rapes that happened, which is why the "falsely accused" ones are separated out (they don't represent actual rapes that happened).Obviously, they've manipulated and combined numbers from multiple sources, and the consistency is questionable. Ultimately, I don't think the "point" of the infographic is worth the leap. False accusations of rape and unreported rapes are two separate issues, and they should be treated that way.If somebody gets falsely accused of rape, there is nothing helpful or enlightening about the fact that a whole bunch of other rapes go unreported. And, if a victim is pressing legitimate charges against a perpetrator, there's also nothing helpful in knowing that a whole bunch of other rapes go unreported. They're just not related.Of course, they are related as they speak to our perceptions of rape. But most people, as far as I can tell, wouldn't even agree that all those little pale-colored figures really meet their definition of what a rape is...so that infographic is way too advanced to actually persuade anybody.[Edited on January 7, 2013 at 6:54 PM. ^^Reported/Faced Trial/Jailed = A man put his penis into a woman without her consentFalsely Accused = A woman lied about being raped. Someone was accused of a crime that didn't happen.
1/7/2013 6:59:22 PM
^ Then the falsely accused should be on its own line above or below and not incorporated into the graph at all.[Edited on January 7, 2013 at 7:06 PM. Reason : Also does the chart include statutory?]

It's still rape as far as the law (and the FBI and DOJ) is concerned. It's not like if I smoke pot in NC it's any less illegal because it's legal in CO.
1/7/2013 8:44:09 PM
I don't understand why someone people are shocked she didn't leave her urine/semen stained clothes on her. If you found your daughter in your front yard passed out covered in god knows what, what would be your first instinct? Probably to wash it off. Some do remember not to take off their clothes or take a shower because of evidence but I would me willing to bet many victims just want the stuff off them.
1/7/2013 8:46:03 PM
^I think a big part of that problem is that what's best for the person to recover from a tragedy like rape or even violent assaults is counter intuitive to what's best for investigators. If a woman wants justice, she should do her best to preserve evidence and be prepared to relive the event over and over again through hospitals, police stations, lawyers office and court rooms. If she wants to come to terms with it and seek a healthy mental state again, she has to clean up, seek counseling and put it behind her.

GUILTY OF RAPE...Note to potential rapist. DIGITAL PENETRATION IS RAPE!!! It must suck to get a rape charge and never get your dick wet.
3/17/2013 11:01:19 AM
they probably actually raped her too
3/17/2013 11:12:42 AM
But you would think a woman can wake up and tell if she had been "raped" or digitally penetrated? I'd imagine the vag feels different after rough sex.
