I have a Gigabyte motherboard GA-880GA-UD3H that I want to replace the RAM on.The manual says that the supported memory are DDR3 1866 (O.C.)/1333/1066 MHz modules.Would DDR3 1600 work?

yes

Just out of curiosity, why don't they list that spec in the supported modules?

probably because it won't run at 1600mhz...it'll be clocked down to 1333mhz

so then there's no point in buying 1600 if it is going to be clocked down

well that sucks

The price difference between 1600 and 1333 is like 2 dollars, so its not like it matters anyway. And if your board supports overclocked timings, I guarantee you it will support 1600, even if you have to manually set the timings

and if you end up upgrading the mobo and the new one handles 1600 you already have the 1600 to use

board will support 1600. look at manual and/or memory support pdf.

the board is a Gigabyte 880GA-UD3H rev 3.1the supported memory list is massivehttp://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Memory/mb_memory_ga-880ga-ud3h_v.2.1.pdfMemory 4 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 16 GB of system memory (Note 1)Support for DDR3 2000(OC)/1333/1066 MHz memory modulesWhat do you all recommend? I've used G-skill mainly. This is on sale this week but I'm not sure if my mobo will run it. It does support OCing but I've never done that before and don't really feel comfortable doing it without someone's help.$42 w/ code - EMCXVXR39http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231519&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL020513&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL020513-_-EMC-020513-Index-_-DesktopMemory-_-20231519-L03BI'm just trying to get the best value.[Edited on February 5, 2013 at 3:06 PM.
