My sister is getting married early next year and we are having a party in a few weeks. I'm looking for a fun place with ridiculous fruity drinks that come in glasses shaped like coconuts or buddhas, or at least have umbrellas. We will have less than 10 people and really just want to hang out, drink, and maybe dance. No loud music (I don't want to have to yell), but somewhere with a jukebox or karaoke would be nice.

I prefer Durham because it would be more convenient for driving everybody.

Thanks guys!!

The gay bar in Durham is The Bar- the advantage of going to that cluster is that Fullsteam, Motorco, Lloyd's,
and the Surf Club are all right there, parking is plentiful, and you can bar hop.

If you want some to go classy, Whiskey or the Republic are your best bets. Whiskey has some amazing
cocktails too, although they are a little $$.

City Beverage has a flaming giant drink that is tasty and novel (and a lot of other fruity drinks). And I think they do karaoke there sometimes.

^ Why did you never take me there

I would have replied sooner, but was busy racking my brain trying to think of a place in Durham that had all of the above. Unfortunately, I think that most bars in Durham are either lesbian bars that serve PBR, local breweries with their goods, sports bars, or ritzy, old-fashioned bars serving pre-prohibition-style "cocktails." All are fantastic, but not what you are looking for.

Run Runners in Raleigh is probably closest to what you are looking for. But that's in Raleigh. Spy in Raleigh is really good at hosting parties and having semi-private areas for groups.

City Bev's Mystery Drinks is pretty awesome, but not sure how you're going to fine a place with dancing, jukebox or karaoke, that isn't loud. I don't really know of any places like that in Durham unless there's something in the Southpoint area I'm forgetting.

Alivias has a good selection of girly slushy drinks along with a full bar inside and out (although no fancy containers for your beverage). The firepits outside are pretty nice this time a year and that area isn't too loud. You could even walk to shooters (shudder) if you really wanted to dance.

Exactly what I was thinking. I can't think of any "tiki bars" around here other than Bahama Breeze or Rum Runners lol.

What about just bar hopping for the night. You could start off with margaritas somewhere like Dos Perros and move your way through other bars around downtown. Most are within walking distance of each other and there's always the Bull City Connector to get you from place to place.

What are all these "lesbian bars that serve PBR" you people keep talking about?

Pinhook and The Bar are both lesbian bars. As far as I know, most places in Durham have an excellent beer selection, but Pinhook has PBR tallboys on the cheap that are always hard to pass up.

This is what I've seen in my limited travels in the Durham bar scene, so I was hoping there would be places I don't know about. I mean, those rich girls at Duke are gonna want liquor slushies!!

i would have said alivias we have good drinks but the fanciest containers you get are going to be the fish bowl drinks, a lot bachelorette parties just drop in though and they all turn out really well

we have about 4 different flavors of slushie drinks right now, all of them are extremely popular i think theres a coke, orangecicle, pomegranate one, and some other one i cant remember

also the outdoor bar isnt going to be open a whole lot over the winter

i would recommend walking to Casbah if the grown ups want to dance; hell with a party of ten you can dance right there in alivias, we wil move tables to give you all the space you need

Rum runners can be a lot of fun, unfortunately every bachelorette on the planet goes there. My wife went by there for her bacherlorette party and didn't get much lovin because there were no fewer than three other bachelorette parties there when her and her posse arrived.

If you want to do some karaoke with a twist, you could always do Star Karaoke. There's one on Capital Blvd and I heard a rumor they're opening (opened?) one somewhere in Durham. Basically you rent a private room and can sing to your heart's content being as silly and crazy as you want. Happy hour is until 8pm for half off drinks. It's not something I'd do the entire night but would make for a fun warm up hour during their happy hour.

Found their website: http://www.starkaraokenc.com/

Looks like the Durham location does exist!

If you are in the Durham area the Duke lacrosse team would be willing to host your party. I hear those parties are epic
