"Take a look at all my unsecured weapons and supplies, please respectfully do not steal them or come to my house in an emergency."

at the very least they should disguise their face and not show a wide view of the house. so dumb.

The guy now just sold all of his possessions in a shitty small apartment for a down payment for a used RV and 5 acres and did so without telling his Mexican fiancée

Current guy has no savings because he thinks the madrid fault line will cause a 200-mile wide sea in the middle of the US.

What scale of prepped? You can't knock having some stuff ready for a hurricane or winter storm or something.

But a 200-mile wide sea in the middle of the US is probably a stretch.

Honestly I didn't ask her in fear of her saying something that i would laugh at

She said she spent the weekend prepping and I was like prepping for what?
Then she said for when shit hits the fan, like the show on TV so I didn't go any further

If you're not prepping for a doomsday scenario in this environment you are a pretty misinformed person.

I have an economics degree and plenty of advanced finance credentials/study.

You can ignore history all you want and if you plan on dying in the next 5-10 years you'll probably be okay.

Not all people who live near the coast buy flood insurance either. The only real difference is that floods are somewhat unpredictable while financial crises are much easier to predict.

Didn't you say that your econ degree was worthless and that you've had to forget it all and reeducate yourself by reading blogs?

Everyone should have a bag they can grab quickly in their home. Mine is set for a fire/quick evacuation scenario from the home and is in the closet by the front door.
I've got:
- copies of insurance, marriage license, career documents, identification, birth certificates
- change of clothes and shoes in case I have to run out in my boxers
- try to keep 200 bucks there for a hotel room and food
- extra iPhone charger

Thinking about making an "oh fuck" bag for a Katrina/sandy event or something that leaves me cut off for a week or so.
-5 MRE's, iodine pills, canteen, knife, flash light, batteries, vs17 signal panel, jacket, fire starting kit and ~50 rounds for the glock. Normally, I think stockpiling ammo is dumb, but if there is no power for a week, it's going to be like the walking dead walkers comming from the ghetto down the road.

Doomsday prepping is extreme, but it's damn smart to have a small back up plan for a house fire/flood/bad luck

no joke, some of my coworkers think along the lines of the people on this show.

like, one guy bought 2 old shipping containers and buried them somewhere on his 200ac of land (won't say where) to use as storage/bunkers

another guy that I know through the bunker guy just spent $15k outfitting carbines and battle rifles "to protect his family and food supply." this is in rural SC (surprise!)

i mean, there is a fine line between preparedness and paranoia and some of these guys are RIGHT ON IT

This is a possibility, albeit a fractionally small one. It would take a massive and abrupt pole shift or a stoppage of core ignition for this to happen. Even then it would be over a few decades. It won't just rip in half and a sea will appear. This could also happen along the St Laurence seaway.

Watching this for the first time. A chubby woman is going on and on about "when the government takes over". Apparently martial law somehow includes a complete breakdown of law and order.

The only episode I have seen made me LOL. Dude was out in the desert trying to teach his sons how to shoot guns and about gun safety.......then he shoots his thumb off.

"I think every American Household should have a gun........"

I would like to have a little of the general preparation that some of these people have, maybe along the lines of Wolf2Ranger's post, but most of them have gone off the deep-end. They're just targets if their "doomsday" ever plays out.

And some of their "doomsday" fears were so hilariously misguided I couldn't help but stay tuned. Last one I saw, some guy wasn't worried about an eventual doomsday but was convinced that the radiation release from Fukushima was poisoning everyone's water and food chain because he read on the internet that "they detected radiation in California" (not even gonna begin). So he is hoarding thousands of varieties of seed and threw up some canvas in his backyard to cover his property so the radioactive air and water didn't contaminate his plot of earth. He did invent a pretty badass "anarchist's cookbook"-style electrolysis machine to produce hydrogen gas though.

I've seen a few episodes but I had to quit watching because I got tired of every single person saying "when the shit hits the fan" as if it was their own novel idiom

I ran across a survivalist/prepped forum one day that had a thread on this show. The general consensus was that everyone on the show was a nut job that focused solely on gathering stuff. They had very little knowledge/skills when it came to survival (first aid, fire making, nutritional needs and food preparation etc.) and most of them were so out of shape they couldn't possibly be physically capable of survival. Anytime they "trained" it was less about survival and more about blowing holes in things with guns or "bugging out" in large, heavy gas-dependent vehicles.

This guy lives in Temecula, CA and is convinced that a 7.8 earthquake is going to unleash anarchy on SoCal.

Instead of prepping why not just move somewhere else?

This show was on in the background when I started making dinner because we were watching Taboo or something earlier.

I decided to change the channel when it got to, "He is going to teach his son to kill a goat with a knife. *5 minutes of goat screaming noises*."

I saw an episode with a guy that seemed pretty normal. His basic philosophy was that some people have mountain vacation cabins. His just happened to be a well-stocked former missile silo should the worst happen. There were other segments with folks bragging about all the guns and ammo they had stashed away while this guy was showing off his stockpile of food and medical supplies.

When I was eight my uncle, who was around 30, told me and my cousins that one day the government was going to collapse and everyone would have to live in the woods. He then let us know he would eat us to survive.

I just saw the Drugs Inc. episode "Stashville, Tennessee" in my What to Watch feed on YouTube; this led to a set of related videos about Doomsday Preppers casting director Brooklyn Elizabeth Bagwell...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xj-vIlc0-zA
...who must be the most airheaded and sibilant sounding TV personality ever.
