It snowed today in Troutman/ Statesville area.

I drove through it and was quite confused as to why white stuff was falling from the sky when the thermometer was 44 degrees. Yes, I do understand how/why, but it didn't stop the confusion when I saw it.

These mild winters fucking blow

My 4.5 hour interstate drive from western NC back to Cary nearly resulted in my death twice. Rained the whole time, literally got run off the road by a semi, and then nearly got run off by the road by a woman in an SUV.

It's raining fuckers, put on your lights and pay attention.

Seriously though, fucking rain for 5 days in a row is bullshit. At least have the decency to snow once while I'm in the mountains.

4 inches forecast for Durham tonight, everyone's panicking already. Duke and NCCU have issued winter weather advisories and people keep cancelling events for today and tomorrow. I was at the grocery store last night
and the usual suspects were down (bread, milk, etc.)

It's just snow, peoples. It's warm and it's going to not stick anyway because the ground's too wet and warm.

^ same here in Greensboro, but I am more concerned about the ice. I have over 2 inches in my rain gauge over the past 24 hours, and they are calling for lows in the 20s tonight and tomorrow night.

A lot of people will write off because it is raining right now and will be through tonight. The problem is when the changeover occurs it will be pretty quick and shortly after people will find themselves in pretty impressive snow rates from triangle westward. The snow will come in a quick shot over just a few hours with the deformation band in association with the upper level low. In the heaviest bands thundersnow is possible. As people said the ground is warm, it is wet and the air isn't that cold. With that in mind some will get a lesson tonight in what dynamical cooling can do and how heavy snow rates can overcome warm soil and wet ground.

my company finally did this, but they went a step further and called every phone number you had if you filled out the fields. i was lazy and never put my number in, but some coworkers got hit like 3-4 times around 430am last time it snowed

Looks like we will definitely see snow falling tonight just a matter of for how long. I think we will have some on the grass and stuff but I believe the roads will be fine other than maybe a few slick spots so dont count on having a 3/4 day weekend unless you work for the school systems.

Mushy snow here in Durham, the annoying kind that immediately turns to ice in the tread of your shoes. Had
to stop and clear it out before getting in my truck around 10.

Class @ NCCU is delayed tomorrow. Sweet!

no, but i've lived in raleigh for more than 12 years

and big surprise, it was a whole lot of nothing for most of RALEIGH (i didn't mention anywhere else), as i said would be the case

yeah, there have been a couple of accidents...but that's just people in the south not knowing how to drive worth shit when there's precipitation

you know what else won't happen for the rest of this "winter"? snow.

It did snow and it did stick, maybe not as much as they were calling for, but either way that looks pretty wrong to me

kind of sad that the tiny bit that (most of) raleigh got was considered "snow"...i probably should have specified that it would be extremely minimal

as for sticking, i saw NO snow on the ground this morning...some ice, sure, but that's what happens when it rains the day before freezing temperatures...and even then, i saw virtually no ice anywhere but on grass, bridges, and my deck...which is, again, expected when water freezes overnight (whether it was rain or snow)

you're right, though, at least one snowflake fell and at least one snowflake stuck in the form a snowflake, so i am inarguably wrong

I'M GLAD I MADE IT THROUGH THE GREAT BLIZZARD OF 2013

truly, though, i'm not trying to be argumentative...i just came in here to tell everyone what was actually going to happen...i find my life is easier when i plan for reality instead of fantasy, you know? sorry if y'all didn't like me pointing out the obvious

[Edited on January 18, 2013 at 2:21 PM. Reason : sorry, forgot that my deck had some ice on it, so i guess i should build a snowman]

It was enough that highway driving this morning had a pretty significant number of snowballs and sheet ice flying off vehicles that had just got on.

Not a single damn snowflake fell in my neighborhood, a few miles south of downtown. Nothing. No snow on anything in the morning. So I'm gonna side with quagmire02 on this one.

fingers crossed for Friday...
