If you're paying cash, get it done for a small fraction of the price in Mexico. It's not a difficult procedure so you will get the same result with the same quality.look up medical tourism. and fuck you, AMA you mercantilist cocksmokers.

Raleigh Eye CenterLasik-3.5 in bothnowait until they run their $950 per eye special, they do it twice a year I believe (mine was $2100 total after everything)they corrected my vision to 20/15 in both eyes, better than I've ever seen even with contacts

^ How long ago was that? Not a bad price. And I'm interested now as well, to add to the OP's questions has anyone had their astigmatism fixed or improved through their corrective surgery.

I did it 7 years ago. My eyes were about -4.0 in each. Dr. Travers did it. $2500 or so with life time adjustments (at Lasik Plus), she branched off recently. I have 0 regrets doing it. I did it when I was 20 years old. 20/15 the first year after. 7 years later I'm at 20/30. I expected to have an adjustment after just a few years. I have had to get a slight prescription for glasses at night driving (free with my insurance). They aren't mandatory, but I can see a difference. My prescription now is -0.50. Again, no regrets. Do it. But for the love of God do not go to Mexico, go to the most reputable place you can afford. It's your @#$# eyes. Shit peopleFYI - the re-adjustments are PRK, not LASIK. Different procedure

whats the difference between LASIK, LASEK, and PRK? is there anything new out?

It's probably a good idea to avoid having any medical procedures done in 2nd and 3rd world countries. That said, I'm about a year away from having the surgery. My goal is early 2014. Having worn glasses since I was in 6th grade, I can't wait.

i had lasik done 10 years ago at tlc in raleigh, cost was ~$3000 i thinkmy prescription was only -1.50 when i had it done but i still needed glasses/contacts, especially for driving (had the surgery because i developed an allergy that didn't allow me wear contacts anymore and i didn't like wearing glasses all the time)my vision is still 20/20 10 years later, i get regular checkups and have had no problems and do not wear glasses now -- i highly recommend the surgery to anyone who is a good candidate, i basically don't even remember what it was like wearing contacts or having glasses...

Definitely get cash medical procedures done in 3rd world countries. Their governments heavily subsidize health services. Procedures are easily 1/1000 the price they are in America. Their doctors usually study in the West anyway and their equipment is actually newer and better maintained when it comes to routine procedures. Medicine in America is just business and all they care about is the bottom line: you are their cattle. Doctors elsewhere are still heroes that are in it to help people. They are highly competitive and if you can't hack it at the cutting table, you become a nurse or EMT. They don't have malpractice, lawyers, and the AMA.tldr: go on vacation and get you eye fixed.PS, you only need to get one eye fixed to be perfect vision. you brain fix it.[Edited on November 19, 2012 at 7:26 AM. Thanks guys! I'm nervous about a us doctor messing with my eyes you think I'd really go to a place I can't drink the water to have surgery done ? Shit no.

I had PRK surgery done 8 years ago. Had to get PRK because my corneas are slightly thinner than normal so I was told Lasik wasn't an option. The recovery time was longer with PRK than it would've been with Lasik but the results couldn't have been better. 20/20 in both eyes now (Don't remember what my eyes were back then). Got it done at Duke by Dr. Carlson, super super nice guy and great doctor. http://www.dukehealth.org/physicians/alan_n_carlson

I'm half thinking about going to Ecuador after I graduate. Might be fun to go see Machu Picchu and get lasik done....cool stuff.
11/25/2012 4:04:00 PM
I want to go abroad to get cross linking done. The only other option is corneal transplants, but that is kind of final.

DONT DO IT

My husband, mother, and brother all had it done at Dr. Lori Travers and all wish they had done it sooner. It was roughly $3400 for my husbands LASIK surgery a couple months ago. He's now 20-15 in both eyes. Everyone I know that has had it done says it is worth every penny.

Water from a 10ยข taco stand garden hose and water from the eye-surgery irrigation supply are different quality.Ignorant fear is what the medical industry relys on to charge ridiculous prices. That and a disconnect between the buyer and the payer.

Right, and mobile taco stands have their own garden hoses.

I may consider after I'm done having children. But overall contacts nor glasses bother me, so meh.
12/16/2012 11:33:21 AM
Had Lasik in Jan 2011; went to the eye doctor yesterday and my vision is still 20/15 in both eyes.
12/17/2012 1:09:47 PM
^ when you had it done, were you able to return to work the same day? any issues adjusting right away, like blurriness, etc? i'm thinking of getting this done next year.
12/17/2012 1:21:53 PM
How many people have had an astigmatism and had this done? Both my eyes are myopic with astigmatism.
12/17/2012 4:07:07 PM
I had a slight astigmatism in both eyes but it wasn't bad enough to prevent me from having the surgery.I did mine on a long weekend... surgery on Saturday, follow-up on Sunday, back to work on Tuesday. You will be sensitive to light the first day and it's best not to strain your eyes either. My husband has also had lasik and we went to the NCSU bowl game in Orlando the day after. But he also let his eyes rest the rest of the day post surgery. The day you have it done, it is best to let your eyes rest so the flap they make starts to heal. Plus, you'll still be blurry initially. I had the surgery mid-morning and my husband drove me home (I suggest bringing a sleep mask, especially if it is a bright, sunny day). I popped an Ambien and slept all afternoon - woke up around 6pm and really opened my eyes for the first time and could see almost perfectly. I was at 20/20 by the time I went to my follow-up the next day and it got a little better by my 2nd follow-up a month or two later.
