caught about 20' midway through and he's already killed three dudes, so it's already better than smallville

I dont follow comic books or tv enough to tell, but I've seen previews and is this actually Green Arrow and they are just using a different name or is it the most blatant rip off ever?

It's based on Green Arrow. So he's Oliver Queen, super rich playboy and jerk, and he gets stranded on an island and comes back as a super hero. His ex-girlfriend is Laurel Lance, and her father is a police detective.

But his mom is still alive, and his dad killed himself in the boating accident. His younger sister is Speedy. Laurel's dad is named Quentin, not Larry.

Anyway, there's family intrigue and lots of crime to fight.

I'm glad he's actually killing people, rather than Smallvilles 'oh, we'll just give them amnesia' strategy

I like how the legal aid lawyer chick was appealing a capital murder case in last week's episode.

This show is fun. Its not the best show and definitely has its corny moments, but its a fun well done superhero show.

only thing i don't like is that Dig and the cop's sidekick look identical. So i keep thinking Dig is playing both sides. then i realize "oh, it's the other black guy"

Yeah he had a recurring role on 24 until Jack Bauer killed him to save an informant. I remember him from Highlander the series though, that's the first thing I saw him in.

Went back and watched the episodes. I am locked in to it now. At first I refused to watch. I kind of hate they just just let Arrow from Smallville take the role. But I understand why (I think).

Who was that last villain in the last episode?

I believe he's called the Dark Archer, but I'm not too familiar with the whole Green Arrow mythos.

I think a lot of people expected the Merlyn villain to be his best friend only to find out that it was actually his best friend's father. However, I'm not completely convinced the current Dark Archer will prove to be the Merlyn from the comics. Something may happen between Oliver and his best friend that leads him to become the Merlyn from the stories. But again, I'm not that familiar with the characters and shows have been known to take creative licenses.

Ok... So the villain at the end of the show was in fact Queen's best friend? (Whether he was Merlyn or Dark Archer).

If so, I am to believe that his best friend also likes/enjoys and became a master archer with no knowledge or thought that his friend was one also...

I am just trying to find the connection while hoping I am wrong.

Quote :
"In The CW's Arrow (2012–), the character of Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell) is introduced in the show's pilot episode as the long-time best friend of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), and like him a wealthy trust fund playboy. Reviews largely identified him as a reimagined version of DC's Merlyn. However, subsequent episodes introduce Tommy's father, Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman), an associate of Oliver's mother Moira (Susanna Thompson), and the man responsible for the capsizing of Oliver's ship and the death of his father, Robert Queen (Jamey Sheridan). He appears for a number of episodes credited as Well Dressed Man before he is revealed to be Tommy's father, after Tommy discovers that he has cruelly cut him off from his trust fund and all other sources of income. In the ninth episode, "Year's End," Malcolm appears at a dinner party with the Queens and invites Oliver to speculate about the city's vigilante archer. Later, another archer appears in Starling City and goads Oliver into a confrontation, easily defeating him in combat; he is shown to the audience to be Malcolm. In the same episode, he has his men kidnap Moira's new husband Walter (Colin Salmon) for investigating the sinking of the Queen's Gambit, and in discussion with Moira he reveals to the audience his forthcoming plans for Starling City, which involves the death of thousands of people."

I wish there was a facepalm smiley. The villian is Malcolm Merlyn, Tommy's Father. It is extremely likely that either Malcolm or Tommy will be Arrow's version of Merlyn. I am leaning towards Malcolm as so far as we know Tommy is a worthless piece of shit and won't ever amount to anything.

^ I hope that's the case because I really don't want Malcolm and Tommy to go the way of Lionel and Lex Luther in Smallville.

Stephen Amell is so stiff. I really like this show but it's almost painful to watch his monotone line delivery and robocop-esque movements. He rivals Jim Caviezel as the most robotic actor on network TV right now.

I think that's part of his character though. In flashbacks I don't see that as much. I think he's somewhat dead inside because of what he went through and that comes out in the present.
