So my nephew got into a wreck a couple weeks ago. He hydroplaned into a tree...single car accident, no injuries or property damage, other than the obvious. Walked home because he didn't have his phone. Car was towed the next day to a body shop via AAA.There was no accident report. The question is what kind of documentation will a standard insurance company require to file a claim?

They will probably require a accident report if one is required by state law. The law in NC defines a reportable crash as:

New questionI was in a wreck like a year ago, my rates went up since it was my fault.Recently someone hit and ran my bumper, and I have a $50 deductible so I'm thinking about claiming it. Is it 100% true that comprehensive claims can't make your rates go up? I did have a ~$5k comprehensive claim about two years ago that didn't affect my rates, so I'm wondering if these things add up so something.

it's not uncalled for for a comprehensive deductible to be $50 - pretty sure though your bumper in this case will be covered under collision

^^ I pay a little more for it...it's not too bad.^ Shit so that means my rates might go up if I claim?

Have you tried asking your insurance agent?

someone hitting your bumper is collision, not comprehensive

^^ What is this, the 50s? I don't have an "agent"

It will not affect your rates, it is a not at fault incident. It is also definitely collision.

In North Carolina, a hit and run collision claim does not affect your rates. It is a Not at Fault accident.
