I was going to guess turtles. That would be a pretty boring fight, though.

And why would you spend the money to go to the emergency vet in the middle of the day? I am sure your regular vet would see you. I would only go to an emergency vet if my regular vet was closed.

well, a same-day appointment counts as an emergency at my bird's vet, since it is the vet school and they are busy. its just a $50 fee, not a fuck-you-in-the-ass rate on everything.

but they had another emergency this morning so they won't see my lil guy til 2 pm

[Edited on September 14, 2012 at 12:05 PM. Reason : i just hate it because the bird got bit last night]

That's one of the reasons that we now only have the single Quaker. He did OK with my cockatiels because we had them first, but any bird that came into our home later caused a lot of problems. Mina thinks that he (yes, he) is a person. A very jealous boyfriend.

Parrots are mean motherfuckers when they get jealous. For some god unknown reason my parents decided to get two sun conures when I was little and within a month gave them away because they were constantly attacking each other and everyone that lived in the house. At least when my cats fight with each other the one is a little bitch and runs away as soon as she thinks she's going to get hurt

My mom has an African Grey that will live probably about 30 years after she goes. Me and my sisters are fighting over who will take it. And not in the good way. In that "I'm not taking that motherfucker" kind of way.

^ My mom had one of those too. Fucker went crazy and plucked all his feathers out.

and she had a cockatiel that wouldn't stop laying eggs. she would just lay them, and sit on them, and wouldn't even let you in the cage to change her water of feed her.

2 more reasons not to have birds as pets.

haha sounds like the fights my mom and uncle would have over my grandmother's African Grey. But then it got eaten by a coyote so that took care of that.

The creepy thing about the African Grey is that he used to sound EXACTLY like my Dad. So when my Dad died, it was weird as shit going over there for like 6 months. Now he pretty much just whistles some gay ass shit. But he hates everyone except my mom, and shits everywhere.

also you don't keep birds as pets because THEY FUCKING FLY, and most people do not let them do this at all. This is backward.

She is similar Lisa Ann, except without the great hamstrings. And with a better personality and gag reflex.

Companion birds are not for everyone. You cannot just put them in a cage and admire them. You have to put a fair amount of work into them. It's usually fairly easy to meet their physical needs, but they also have social and intellectual needs that are often neglected. Medium to large companion parrots are equivalent to a human toddler. They need a lot of social interaction, intellectual stimulation, and cognitive challenges to keep them happy and to ensure that they thrive.

Oh, and Quakers are notorious feather pickers. They're extremely prone to pulling their feathers when stressed out. For some, it becomes such a serious problem that they end up with open sores. Mina has only picked her feathers twice in her life: when we left for a week on our honeymoon and when we brought home another bird.

When I used to work a vet clinic, this one lady came in with her dead bird to see if it was okay. Turns out sleeping in the same bed as your bird isn't a good idea 1) if you tend to roll around on the bed since you can crush it and 2) at all. I was sad for her, but it was just an odd situation. I mean I get having a dog or cat sleeping at the end of the bed, but It'd never occur me to have a bird there.

A friend of my mother in law has a cockatoo with his own pillow in bed with her and her husband.

Early on, our Quaker's cage was never closed so he went where ever he wanted in our bedroom. Occasionally, I'd wake up with a bird. Fortunately, Mina respected bedtime for the most part. But heaven forbid I fall asleep studying. He fancies himself a surgeon and will excise freckles if he thinks you're knocked out.

I'm glad your tiel is OK, Amanda.

probably. I know that if a queen dies they will raise a few new ones. Then those queens fight it out until there is only 1 left. I would like to see that.
