Just saw this on ESPN. Ridiculous, Swofford. If you can't get them in football, what is the point?Evidently there will be limited football:

interesting.
9/12/2012 9:50:03 AM
15 team conference? Nope.So who else? Rutgers?
9/12/2012 9:50:53 AM
USF or UCF?
9/12/2012 9:51:26 AM
do we need them this bad that they can call the shots?
9/12/2012 9:51:28 AM
I hope not rutgers...

BREAKING NEWS: DAVID GLENN, OF ACC SPORTS JOURNAL AND 99.9 FM THE FAN, REPORTS THAT THE ACC WILL ANNOUNCE THE ADDITION OF NOTRE DAME AS A PARTIAL CONFERENCE MEMBER AT A 12:30 P.M. PRESS CONFERENCE IN CHAPEL HILL.
9/12/2012 9:53:43 AM
I'm guessing they'll become a full member when their NBC contract expires (in 2015?).
9/12/2012 9:53:54 AM
Rutgers, UConn or Louisville are probably the only semi-realistic options.[Edited on September 12, 2012 at 9:54 AM. Reason : X]
9/12/2012 9:54:25 AM
ugh why do we need super conferences???12 is really about the sweet spot for all sports. I'd love only 10 but I understand 12.14-16 teams is ridiculous.
9/12/2012 9:57:41 AM
ECU
9/12/2012 9:57:45 AM
Actually probably a school like Georgetown would make sense since football will still only be 14 teams..
9/12/2012 9:58:34 AM
If there isn't some sort of future clause that makes them full members when their NBC contract runs out, this is horseshit. I'd rather take UConn
9/12/2012 9:59:20 AM
Ive heard some talk of trying to poach Vandy from the SEC but I doubt that would happen.

They're counting towards our bowl tie-ins, so that should help improve our bowl selections in the coming years. Also, the exit fee to leave the ACC is now $50 million! [Edited on September 12, 2012 at 10:19 AM. Reason : ]
9/12/2012 10:08:26 AM
^was about to post the exit fee. damn!
9/12/2012 10:11:24 AM
9/12/2012 10:12:09 AM
there's really no need for a 16th team...still 14 in football which i think is only sport that uses divisions right?everything else is round robin style/bracket style
9/12/2012 10:12:44 AM
^ True. If ND joins in football in 2015 or 16 we can get a 16th football member then.
9/12/2012 10:17:55 AM
yeah I don't think you want to faction out members into different classes for major sports, that's what happened in the big east and look where it's gotten them.I think this is just going to be a joining in two stages to make it more palatable to the ND fans and admins who like independence.
9/12/2012 10:19:53 AM
Well, apparently each team will play ND every three years. If we don't get a 16th team, it won't be even.
9/12/2012 10:21:19 AM
9/12/2012 10:23:50 AM
or NC State....
9/12/2012 10:32:09 AM
Does this mean we're going to be like the Big East now and have our bowl tie-ins all be "ACC pick or Notre Dame"?
9/12/2012 10:33:28 AM
Wait, I thought FSU and Clempson were leaving?
9/12/2012 10:33:38 AM
They gotta pay 50 million if they wanna leave now

What exactly does the ACC get from this? Notre Dame football is on the decline. They are off by themselves geographically. I don't get it.
9/12/2012 10:52:54 AM
no one doesIt's Swofford at his best...
9/12/2012 10:54:09 AM
Honestly, the ND news is secondary to the increased exit fee. That pretty much prevents any school from leaving.Unfortunately that means BC is here to stay....STATE TO THE SEC!Also, I don't feel like looking at a map, but I bet south bend is closer than miami or boston.[Edited on September 12, 2012 at 10:56 AM. John Swofford, you sir are a PR genius. You have two of the biggest money making schools in the conference in some trouble with violations that the NCAA isn't even looking into yet, and what do you do? You go and streamline adding Notre Dame into the ACC. Not only are you saying there is nothing to see at UNC and Duke, you are saying "Hey look over here at this big news, forget about that other stuff!" Well played sir, well played indeed.
9/12/2012 10:57:29 AM
They'll play Pittsburgh and Boston College every year so that's 2 of their 5.From this point on I'll call the conference the Big Atlantic East Coast. Can someone tell me the appeal of Rutgers? "They're close to New York". Yeah, since when did New York care about Rutgers? And what has BC done for the ACC BAECC in Boston?[Edited on September 12, 2012 at 11:05 AM. Reason : .]
9/12/2012 10:59:03 AM
All I wanna know is when does NCSU play ND in South Bend? B/c I will book that trip TODAY!
9/12/2012 11:00:19 AM
this makes me hate ND even morenow they'll be able to steal bowls from ACC teams
9/12/2012 11:10:04 AM
I know vandy is unlikely, but that's definitely my first choice for #16. Then louisville, then uconn, and rutgers last.

Rutgers and New Brunswick are awful. The campus is ugly and right beside the highway. Having gone past their stadium, the expansion looks cheaply done. I have a number of friends in Philly that went to Rutgers, and they all hated it, or state that the university could have been much better considering what they were paying. No one there really cares about Rutgers unless they are doing exceptionally well.I would prefer to not have the Jersey trash in our conference. Penn State brings nothing in basketball, and will not bring anything in football due to the NCAA reaming them. The obvious choice would have been WVU. They are lacking in the academic side, but they would have brought in natural rivalries with Pity, UVA, UMD, & most importantly VT who refused to play them. Throw in their familiarity with the other Big East schools and it makes sense. I don't see them leaving the Big XII for a few years though. It will take them a few years to realize how much it sucks to be in a conference with Texas, and how much extra they have to spend on travel each year.At this moment UConn seems like the best choice from what is left, but BC will try to block them to no end. I just hate that we are the new Big East in terms of giving ND preferential treatment. If the 5 games a year helps to transition them to full member status once their contract with NBC is up, then I'm okay with it provided revenue sharing is equal.

if you think this is a bad move, than I don't know what the fuck to tell youthis is absolutely huge and it saves the ACC[Edited on September 12, 2012 at 11:24 AM. Reason : blah]

^^It saves the ACC? Saves them from what? We are the weakest in football, no help with this news. Basketball? I think the ACC is fairly strong in that department and getting stronger with Syracuse coming in. So what does this "save" the ACC from?I don't think its a bad move, but it honestly doesn't do much for the ACC. But also doesn't hurt. [Edited on September 12, 2012 at 11:25 AM. Reason : ]
