What's up with friends messaging you through random social media outlets as opposed to phone call, text message, IM or email?

Some folks seem insistent on communicating only through facebook messages, LinkedIn or Words With Friends chat. Or through teedub message!

My mom is the worst offender... putting the most personal family messages on my facebook wall. WTF? Mom, call me!

I think FB is valid, since everyone is on it all the time, everyone has the app on their phone etc. LinkedIn would be ok for a business related message. Words with Friends chat is dumb.

if you message me on FB it's probably gonna be at least a few weeks if not 1-2 months until i receive it. i rarely log on to FB and i never updated it with my new email address. haven't really missed any of that shit.

although I'm probably best at replying to texts...but when I'm tired of talking I just stop responding

I do both. I'll use Facebook for group events because some people never seem to use email. I'll text those that I don't think we'll see the Facebook message. I type faster than I can text/Swype, so I usually prefer it if given the option.

I, too, am one of those people who only checks facebook once in a great while. Text is great for short messages but I'm not a fan of multimessage conversations; just press the damn call button unless you're in a place where that's not feasible.

Worse than the wall posts, are people that comment on photos with something completely unrelated to the picture you put up. At least wall postings are only seen by mutual friends or someone that actually clicks on your wall.

i refuse to link my facebook to my phone. that shit's just not that important.
if you want to ask a simple question, text.
if you have a complex question or multiple questions, or just want to chat, call.
if i don't answer, it may mean i don't feel like talking, so if it's important, leave a message and i'll call you back.

I spend about 3 hours a day on conference calls. If you call me, I'm most likely on another phone call OR I'm sick of talking on the phone. That said, if you're my mother, my best friend, my boss, my client or my doctor, then I'm picking up. Otherwise, your call will likely get screened.

Texting is much more efficient.

Seems to be the case for a lot of people here. I don't like talking on the phone unless its to someone I'm banging, buying drugs from, or immediately related to, but its a necessary evil that I tolerate in order to appeal to the masses.

By and large I could do without most forms of communication. I spent 45 minutes last might talking to my father and it was awful. Email is annoying, gchat and facebook messenger can lick my asshole. Texting, which I used to hate is about all I can tolerate anymore unless you're blowing me on the regular.

I prefer to use the call function on my phone for communicating with people.

My pet peeve is probably texting "hey." If you want to have an idle conversation with someone, call me. I can make it happen. But I can't do it over text.

Another one is the lack of appreciation for other people's schedules. You used to have to determine if somebody was going to be home and if they would be free (not eating dinner, getting ready for bed, or catching the latest episode of Dynasty). Now people just get right to texting: hey, are u there, where are u. Or they leave some snippy voicemail message: Well, I guess you're not picking up your phone right now...
