Groundhog DayA League of Their OwnEdit: Mighty Ducks, Rookie of the Year, Mr. Nanny as one of those so bad it's good movies[Edited on August 30, 2012 at 6:11 PM. Reason : didn't read the OP, thus didn't know purpose was to entertain youngsters.]

Some of these might be G, but whatevs. The Iron GiantLabyrinthWhat About Bob?HeavyweightsRaiders of the Lost ArkI enjoy the fact that Groundhog Day is PG. Between the rampant self-loathing and the multiple suicide attempts, it's family fare of the highest order! (Note: I consider this one of the finest films of all time, but still).
8/30/2012 6:32:08 PM
Star wars, back to the future, Indiana jonesBut Pg movies made before pg13 existed are cheating IMO. Raiders would have likely been 13.For kid movies, definitely the goonies and the sandlot. Hook, surf ninjas, Willow, narnia (the first one), National treasure, the incredibles, and any and all Ernest movies.
8/30/2012 6:53:28 PM
rated g, but kids like pretty much any pixar movie...
8/30/2012 7:35:55 PM
Good recommendations in here so far, I'll throw in Little Monsters and any of the Home Alone movies
8/30/2012 8:27:54 PM
This would be easier with a more specific age range, but (and some of these may be G):To Kill a MockingbirdThe Muppet MovieTRONA Shot in the Dark, The Pink Panther, etc.E.T.Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (the Kirk Douglas / James Mason version)
8/30/2012 9:06:32 PM
This was my favorite movie when I was a kid. Haven't watched it since, so who knows if it will stand the test of time.

lol at What About Bob?that shit is way over the head of most kids
8/31/2012 12:36:09 AM
Disorderlies because it snuck in some nudity. I was more than impressed as a child. Oh, and it was hilarious.]
8/31/2012 12:39:01 AM
^^ To be fair, we have no idea how old these children are. Also, What About Bob? is way more kid-appropriate/lower concept than Groundhog Day.
8/31/2012 12:47:26 AM
i'll agree about the age thingbut i watched both what about bob and groundhog day about a year apart, as a 12 year old (give or take) and groundhog day was funny as shit, what about bob was like, what?i disagree about lower concept though...i think reliving the same day over and over again is more understandable by a kid than a movie about a mental patient
8/31/2012 1:16:38 AM
The first film that came to mind was Ma Vie en Rose, a heartwarming story about a child's journey of self-discovery and overcoming parental resistance......but then I learned it was rated RDafuq? I call bigotryAnyway, consider Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, or The Nightmare Before Christmas, the Tim Burton trifecta of demented children's stories.also TIL that over half of all rated films in America are rated R, well over half the rest are PG-13, the vast majority of the rest are PG, and almost all films remaining are G, with no more than 4 NC-17 films in any year since 1993, and some years in the new millennium having no NC-17 releases
8/31/2012 5:53:17 AM
no, stick with the original Willy Wonka
8/31/2012 8:11:41 AM
Definitely Raiders of the Lost Ark and Temple of Doom, but as some one said those movies are cheating as they definitely would have been PG-13 nowadays. Jaws is also rated PG haha. Legit PG movies I would say:E.T.Napoleon DynamiteThe Princess BrideThe GooniesAnd I love Hoosiers and Apollo 13 as well, but those aren't exactly 'kids' movies.

8/31/2012 11:15:21 AM

Forrest GumpI watched it many times as a kid, and as I got older and kept watching, I'd see the real meaning of things. Same for the historical stuff in the movie. Its hilarious to kids
9/3/2012 11:04:52 AM
Forrest Gump is not rated PG
9/3/2012 11:36:39 AM
Andromeda Strain kinda fucked me up as a kid[Edited on September 3, 2012 at 11:58 AM. Reason : oh snap, its rated G? no way]
9/3/2012 11:58:20 AM
The Incredibles, without a doubt.
9/3/2012 6:18:23 PM
3 NinjasAlso, I found this site, and it's pretty cool. It has got lots of newer stuff but also older movies and smarter/more arty stuff for kids. You can search by age, genre, topic, etc...http://www.commonsensemedia.org/reviews?recommended_age=10&review_tags=48766

I'll echo The Wizard. I found out in college that movie was about a kid with autism... and apparently kids with autism are born with the knowledge of the whistles in Mario 3.

BTTTHalloween themed PG/PG13 movies?Any recommendations for the fall?
9/14/2012 10:33:29 PM
Nightmare Before Christmas is an obvious one. Really any Tim Burton film might as well be a Halloween-themed movie
