season premiere is September 15th with Seth MacFarlane hosting and Frank Ocean (fuck yes) as musical guest

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Mumford and Sons the week after and Daniel Craig and Muse the week after that

still no official word on Jason Sudeikis

I was up there last March and seriously thought about getting up at 5 am to stand in line to try and get day-of tickets (it was the Lohan episode, so I decided that it would be next to impossible)

^they record rehearsals in case they really screw something up on the live show. The taped rehearsal footage gets used in place of the screwed up skit on reruns. Or it used to be that way.

It's still that way. They'll also use a rehearsal sketch if someone does something insane (like Martin Lawrence or Adrien Brody).

I've gone to 2 shows.... the first was the rehearsal with Rosario Dawson as the host, and the second was the live show with Jon Hamm and Michael Buble as the musical guest. The show sucks now, but being in the audience and watching how the stages are set up is amazing.

My friend Cecily was just announced as a cast member on the new season! I went through the iO improv training program with her, and she's probably the funniest person I've ever shared a stage with. Tim Robinson is awesome too. This gives me hope that this season will suck less.

^Yes! I'm actually stoked about this now.

Laughing at how stupid our politicians are is very important to me.

More hits than misses. Props to the staff for keeping Seth McFarlane's awful shit quarantined to the monologue.

not sure how anyone could think that was anything less than a fantastic performance

i wasn't keen on the second one, especially when it was "play tekken while john mayer noodles" time

however, that first performance was killer

i liked it the least...fast forwarded through a good it of it.

thought it was funny when they put up the wrong graphic during the Weekend Update. I also think the walls closed too early at one point in the PSY/Lids skit and trapped the two of them in there.

all in all i thought it was a pretty good show. seemed they put Seth in nearly every skit, which seems more than normal.

The walls closing was part of the gag.

You should go back and watch Puppet Class...Hader is truly excellent.

lol, just finished and watching the second performance I KNEW tgl and vb would hate the performance. I guess performance art/blues is lost on some people...lol at pointless noodling

That was the very height of pointless white boy noodling.

I'm all for performance art. Morris Day ordering and eating dinner in the middle of a song is my all-time favorite SNL musical performance moment. If Frank Ocean wants to do a cute little walk-off at the end, that's fine, too, but not so John Mayer can pull his dick out and say, "Look, it's me, John Mayer! I still exist."

Garbage. And I thought his playing was tasteful and appropriate on the first song.

20 seconds of soloing is not pointless nodling, if you really think that then theres no help for you

[Edited on September 17, 2012 at 2:27 AM. Reason : its called an outro]

Fine, it's an outro.

A stylistically incongruent, masturbatory outro, coincidentally performed by a guest star known for wankery.

i like how john mayer was mean mugging on the stage during the show finale, as if performing with frank ocean gives him more street cred than appearing on chappelle show or something

I mean you can get all upset over a 20 second guitar solo outro as much as you want, I just think its silly.

and words like "masturbatory" and "wankery" clearly have no place here, not like he laid out some five minute noodle session, chill with the hyperbole

I wasnt aware that liking one performance over the other = hating the other

but hyperbole and whatnot

I guess freaking out over that solo is the exact same reason he tends to land hot celebrity ass

[Edited on September 17, 2012 at 7:38 AM. Reason : I honestly didn't even notice him during the first performance. and that's how it should be]

I don't get it. I mean he's not bad, but absolutely nothing special. How'd he get the SNL gig?

doubtful

he was up and coming since he released his EP Nostalgia, Ultra in 2011

people in that music scene hailed that as the EP of the year and kanye, jay-z and beyonce REQUESTED to work with him

this was all before he came out of the closet

I thought MacFarlane was real funny, much better than I was expecting. I was anticipating an irritating performance, especially after watching the monologue.

and I'm not into Frank Ocean's music, at all.

most definitely. it's a really good album but no way in hell it gets a 9.5 on pitchfork (LOL at that being their highest rated album of the year btw) if the coming out thing didn't happen right before
