Have you been to one? Do you plan to? Was it what you expected? Heading to mine shortly.
8/25/2012 3:27:28 PM
Mine passed, didn't go. With facebook you can keep up with all the people you care to run into.
8/25/2012 3:30:37 PM
Mine is in October.
8/25/2012 3:32:28 PM
Went to mine last year. Maybe 25-30 showed up out of a close to 200 graduating class. It was still ok, mostly because it was open bar. I'm about to attend another one tonight (GF's 10 year). No open bar, but apparently they have BBQ for dinner & a field party after.
8/25/2012 3:40:13 PM
My school didn't have one. Combination of "don't care" and "can't get shit together".
8/25/2012 3:42:11 PM
I missed mine because of a home football game between NC State and USF in a rain storm.
8/25/2012 3:44:11 PM
I haven't been back in good ol' Mayberry (Mt Airy) for years. Everyone I keep in touch with, mostly ppl who left Mt Airy for college, isn't going, so I expect it to mostly be folks who never left the small town we all grew up in. Still there a lot of ppl who never ended up on facebook, including few that I wouldn't mind catching up with.

^^Do they know you are gay? Will that be a problem?
8/25/2012 4:14:56 PM
I blew mine off.Probably missed out on seeing a few people I would like to see...but thanks to technology most people I want to keep in touch with I have.
8/25/2012 4:25:48 PM
Any one on facebook would I guess, but I imagine many don't, but I'd hope since were all adults it wouldn't matter. Wasn't out during high school though.
8/25/2012 4:27:09 PM
Missed it . . . which is a shame since I was one of the few people who had gotten better looking over the decade.
8/25/2012 4:28:20 PM
^^I think you're being a little too idealistic. You're talking about small town North Carolina.I am interested to see who got fat. I don't obsessively check Facebook, and the skinny arm pose won't help you in real life.]
8/25/2012 4:29:01 PM
My school has a 10 yr reunion facebook page that people keep posting on about "WHEN IS THIS GOING TO BE..IS IT GOING TO HAPPEN??"I will not be making the drive to one if they ever set one up, however
8/25/2012 6:03:11 PM
They just made a page on facebook for my 10 year. At first *before the page* I was looking forward to it. Now, I'm about 95% sure that I am not going. I would be nice to hear some good stories to change my mind, but as of now.... fuck that shit.
8/25/2012 6:08:45 PM
^^^yeah, no way I'll show up at my 10-year reunion in small-town Indiana
8/25/2012 7:47:34 PM
I didn't go to my 10th. I didn't go to my 20th. I haven't missed either. I have been in touch with anybody that I care to via Facebook. And even that hasn't been so stellar. But what can you expect? I grew up in Smithfield.
8/25/2012 8:18:48 PM
Mine is next June or so. I'm still undecided, but all the chicks I wanted to bang back then are married, expecting, mothers, or some combination of all. There are a few people I wouldn't mind seeing, but for the most part I'm not interested and most of that can be done while everyone is back home on holiday though I even stopped taking part in that a couple years after graduation.

What's he saying?
8/25/2012 9:54:04 PM
EVERYONE!
8/25/2012 10:02:47 PM
OIC.
8/25/2012 10:16:41 PM
I want to go to mine but then I think everyone will just think i'm an asshole.
8/25/2012 10:22:18 PM
I've taken the approach of convincing my collective of asshole friends to come, so at least I'll be in good company.
8/25/2012 10:39:31 PM
That was a lot of fun. Talked to a lot of people I haven't seen in a long time. There were amble drinking opportunities given the location. My husband was a big hit, perhaps if for no other reason than bringing some new blood into a circle of folks who mostly all stayed in the area. And it wouldn't be a Supplanter thread without some photos:Old North State Winery (location of the reunion)At the reunionDrove out to the old high school before leaving townThat's right, I parked there! What are they gonna do about it?Drove by the old house too. My 'rents got divorced after I was in college, my dad moving out into the middle of no where to the point that Mayberry looks like big city living, and my mother moved to Cary to actually be closer to civilization, with the result that I hadn't seen the house I grew up in for many years.Good times. Go Greyhounds!
8/26/2012 1:28:05 AM
I had a blast at mine. About 80% of the class showed up and most everyone ended up doing pretty well for themselves.
8/26/2012 1:55:24 AM
had mine at the beginning of the month, had a really good time.
8/26/2012 8:17:41 AM
How come you aren't wearing a lame xmen costume?

***shameless threadjack***I'm helping to plan our 10 year reunion and am looking to solicit suggestions for venues in the Greensboro area. Looking for somewhere that we can have food catered, has a bar, and is close to a decent hotel. The idea of just renting out a bar somewhere has also come up. Timeframe is still tentative, but it's looking like either June 8th or June 22nd.So yeah, any of you familiar with Greensboro care to share some ideas? Thanks!

skipped minedon't feel like i missed out on anything...i already keep in touch with (and see) the folks i went to high school with that i'm interested in hearing from/seeing/talking to
3/29/2013 6:30:42 PM
We didn't have one. With stuff like Facebook I think they are pretty much pointless
3/29/2013 7:06:04 PM
hell yeah i'm going to mine. we have a small scale reunion every year. i went to school with some the world's most amazing people and it's always awesome to hear what they're up to.
3/29/2013 7:08:44 PM
Skipped all mine. Prefer to think of the hot chicks as still being hot.
3/29/2013 7:16:51 PM
I might maybe could be talked into considering the nebulous idea of a 30 year reunion. but not a year before then.
3/29/2013 9:11:19 PM
Mine is this year. Actually in less than two months. They are so set on doing it the weekend we graduated in 2003. Personally, I don't care when it is, but I look forward to going. Sucks our class (vice?) president just got sent overseas, because now other people are having to pick up slack.
3/29/2013 10:17:23 PM
Garner High School class of '99They had ours at the local Heather Hills pool clubhouse to "make it more affordable for everyone".While I was already on the fence about attending, this joke of a location definitely made it any easy HELL NO...A FREAKING POOL CLUBHOUSE!!!

i gotta say, the official reunion kinda sucked. all the people who were peaking in HS and gave me a hard time were home with their 10 kids. there was no one to rub their nose in it
9/22/2018 6:21:58 AM
Our 20 year is this month also. I don't think I'll be able to make it, mostly because my wife is due at the beginning of November, and it looks like our little bundle of joy will be coming early. Most of the people I want to see are either on FB or won't be coming.
9/22/2018 7:41:33 AM
I went to mine and am glad that I did, although it was pretty much exactly what you'd expect. The NHS / yearbook type kids pretty much planned everything. Everyone mostly mingled in with the people they showed up with. As you went to get drinks you'd bump into somebody and it was always the same question or two "so what do you do now?", even though you know damn well what that person does, where they went to college, etc. because of Facebook. There weren't a lot of surprises. It was really nice seeing some people that were the people you'd slap hands with in the hallways on a regular basis but didn't ever hang out on the weekends with. Would also exchange info with people like that at the reunion saying "we should get up sometime" but knowing you never will. Overall, I'd recommend it because you really only have a few chances. I think the 15 or 20 year reunion will be more interesting just to see who all is divorced because the 10 year felt like everyone was recently married.

Didn't go to my 10 year, won't be going to my 15 year one this fall, either.

If I wanted to hang out with a bunch of fat idiots I haven't hung out with in years,I'D LOG ON TO THE WOLF WEB DOT COM BOY

I planned our 10 year anniversary. Got input from as many people as I could. Held meetings. Let many of the classmates select vendors such as the caterer, DJ, bartender. Created a group on facebook to keep people informed. Worked hard to gather addresses to send out actual invites so no one got left off if they weren't actively on Facebook. Advertised in the local newspaper. Reserved the country club. My first son was born during the middle of planning all this which made it pretty difficult.Had over 70 people say they were coming on Facebook and were okay with the cost @ $35 a person.A week after the deadline and numerous reminders, had only 9 people pay, most of who were my close friends.Ended up cancelling the whole thing because I didn't want to be out more money than I already was.Had to eat the deposits and the costs of buying and sending our invitations which added up to $500-$600.Luckily a few of the folks who paid told me to keep all or some of their payment to help but it was more my time and effort wasted that aggravated me most. tldr: my classmates suck, don't get stuck planning one, but if you do just pick restaurant that has a back room to reserve and have everyone pay for their own.
9/25/2018 1:50:14 PM
Have heard that story from three different reunion planners over the years. Seems like the only other option besides pay for yourself is to make it a prepay only? No refunds?
