So my wife needs a new car and I've been looking to trade in my truck (that I never drive). I'm looking at a used diesel X5. If I bought one used from Carmax I can purchase a 100k or 125k additional warranty. Towing capacity is 6,500lbs, it gets 26mpg on the highway and I can get an optional 3rd row. Car magazine reviews look pretty good - but have any of you had any experience with one?

thought pretty heavily about buying one but the pricing was pretty ridiculous I found. the porsche cayenne comes in a diesel variant that should be in the US by now.[Edited on August 24, 2012 at 7:20 PM. Reason : you aren't getting 26mpg while towing ]

Very expensive to upkeep!

They're very complicated engines and there's a lot to go wrong. That goes with any diesel engine now, especially German ones.

Gotta put the diesel fluid in the m57. only us gets that neutered POS... Car will actually NOT go if you run it out of urea. It will strand your ass. How gay is that. All the overseas e7x's get badass n47, or n57 which dont require fluid and make more power anyways.
