I got rear ended by some guy in a brand new mustang while stopped at the light in front of Amedeos. Idiot.Went on my first "fancy" date at Amedeos. Walking from Syme to Dalats took way too long for the quality of the food.

There should just be a thread called "Cook Out Memories."I was driving a drunk dude's car through the drivethrough at like 2am on a Saturday, back in 2006 (I was DD). It was fucking PACKED. We were 2 cars from the window on the inside lane and he decides to get belligerent, slapping me in the back of my head and yelling at me from the back seat. I told him to quit that shit, so he got out and started trying to say something to me through the window. I threatened to leave, he refused to stop being a dick and told me to get out of his car. I opened the door, got out, and walked home (I lived right off Collegeview at the time). Later I find out he tried to drive (he wasn't even my friend, he was friends with my roommates, who were also in the vehicle) and bumped into a few things and the cops had to be called. Not sure if he got a DUI or not.

7/11/2012 10:53:50 AM
I don't know if it was there during my tenure...but at least for a couple years between '01 and '05.[Edited on July 11, 2012 at 10:55 AM. Reason : .]
7/11/2012 10:55:08 AM
it was in the current Greek Fiesta, was definitely there in 2000, not sure when it closed.
7/11/2012 10:55:09 AM
Miami Subs closed in '02, reopened as Papa Lou's in '03. Owned by the same people (LM Restaurant Group...also owns Carolina Ale House)
7/11/2012 11:05:44 AM
papa lou's had like, nothing vegetarian
7/11/2012 11:06:25 AM
who hard the hardest working Drive-Thru? Wendy's or Bojangles?my vote is Wendy's. they were consistently busy, Bojangles only had to worry about Saturdays for the most part. The Wendy's DT team was a well oiled machine.
7/11/2012 11:06:54 AM
cookout, of course. they got 2 lines![Edited on July 11, 2012 at 11:09 AM. Reason : that wendy's always gave me the wrong damn thing]

A friend and I went to grab some random supplies for a ski trip at Big Lots once. They had at least 4 full pallets of red, white, and blue Pringles (it was December). I think I bought at least a box of them and continued to eat them through the next year. Pringles keep well.
7/11/2012 11:18:35 AM
Yep, had many a drunken late-nights at the Miami Subs back in the 90s.I remember puking a greek gyro back-up in the bathrrom immediately after eating it one hung-over afternoon.
7/11/2012 11:24:06 AM
You should have returned it.
7/11/2012 11:25:20 AM
you didn't even need a hangover to puke up a sandwich from that place
7/11/2012 11:26:22 AM
the buffalo chicken from Papa Lou's was in a league of it's own. dripping with sauce and the handcut fries made it. Sure, you had to wait 20 minutes to get the damn thing, but it was worth it. i had a love hate relationship with that place. and i also miss late nights in the taco-bell line with Biofreak70 ordering $30 worth of food because we were way too high.
7/11/2012 11:29:58 AM
Mmmmmm Papa Lou's onion strings
7/11/2012 11:46:15 AM
I haven't been on Western in quite a while. There was some shitty pizza place near method, and a club near it, i think there's a pricella's there now, or something. it was closed in the late 90s because of a shooting, i think i remember.

being from the home of village inn pizza, i take offense to anyone who talks shit about them.
7/11/2012 1:30:40 PM
Village Inn Pizza...that place always seemed kind of sketchy, but one day my co-workers and I decided to eat lunch there to give it a fair try. And? Closed.I miss Miami Sub's. Their cheesesteak was pretty good, and you could get it until 3 AM. Fueled many a late night for me.
7/11/2012 1:33:31 PM
western blvd used to be much different once you got down towards mlk blvd. i don't remember exactly how, but it somehow went straight into a 2 lane into boylan heights, i think. they did a major road construction project around 96 to create mlk and route it past the prison.

Pissing off the cashier at Best Products (currently Food Lion) by paying for http://www.albertpenello.com/mask/buzzard.html with loose change. Also got my Sega Master System and he-man figures when they were still sold in plastic bags (pre blister pack days) from that same store. My grandma always loaded up a take out box from Village Inn Pizza for me.Working at the K-Mart When Western ended before it got to downtown. I guess it still does with the road name change, but back then there was no extension.[Edited on July 11, 2012 at 1:47 PM. Reason : -]

I rememb er driving like a good god damn madman whipping onto that road that goes to Grand Asia Market. you could hold your foot on the gas the whole way because there were NEVER police traps there. then you could whip that big circle at 100+ mph and use nice cool brakes to stop at the redlight in front of all the minivans parked getting their coffees and shit. then duck into the parking lot and run off if there was any troble. or go to the movies. whatever you felt like doing while your heart was thumping. sometimes id go rip through those back roads and end up at that lake at the end of Avent Ferry.

Miami subs
7/11/2012 2:32:43 PM
that's been covered.there was one on Wake Forest Rd too. It also changed to a Papa Lou's. Now it's Mami Nora's and it's delicous. But that has nothing to do with Western Blvd. There used to be a very short but fun down-hill mountain-bike trail behind the Dail Center that ran parallel with Western and then looped around at the bottom beside a creek. I'm pretty sure all that area is athletic fields now[Edited on July 11, 2012 at 2:36 PM. Reason : ]
