When you're 4 lanes away from the wreck that isn't blocking any lanes on the interstate and no one is moving into your lane, you don't have to slow down to an almost complete stop and cause a traffic jam. KEEP DRIVING!

Is anyone here a rubber necker? I've learned to ignore what is happening on the side of the road and just keep driving. Too bad the rest of the city can't do that.

I loathe people who don't pull into the shoulder when they have a fender bender. It's not a fucking crime scene people!

i ignore fender benders, but if i'm waiting in 15 minutes worth of rubber necker traffic on the highway, i'm damn sure gonna take a quick peek at the gory death scene as i increase my speed from 7mph to 70mph

even worse is when the wreck is on the other side of the interstate...going in the opposite direction...and traffic is still slowed because of it.

^^^That is just a religious thing in the south. The law states that you aren't supposed to interfere with a funeral procession. It's ok to keep driving east when they are driving west. Just don't stop and block the enterance to the cemetery, or break up the line of cars driving to the cemetery. A lot of other places around the US obey the traffic laws and don't stop.

I don't know it's a "scratch" until I stop and look. How do I know it's not some Nascaresque Daytona like crash where they were going 3 wide into exit 87 and the soccer mom up high got loose and took out the 3 cars behind them in some Armageddon-like carnage of sheet metal and plastic? I just have to stop and look. It's my opportunity to try and figure out what happened, who's at fault, and then silently judge the person as a dumbass who should be jailed for shitty driving.

what I like is when everybody's going really slow, and then you get to the front of the slowness and there's nothing there. and you just speed up and drive away

What's the point? I don't care if they slow down for the hearse, but to completely stop until the last blinking car goes by? That's stupid/ridiculous. What if it's one of my people's processions that are easily 200 cars long? Gonna wait for all of them too?

I will pull to the shoulder and stop but I won't block and stop traffic behind me.

What I dont get is when people just stop on the road for an ambulance going the other way. Happened to me this weekend, there was an island b/t us and the ambulance and the car in front of me just stopped until it passed...

"Funeral Processions
• Every vehicle in a funeral procession must have its headlights on, and the
hazard warning signals must also be on, if so equipped.

• The operator of the lead vehicle must comply with all traffic-control signals.
But when the lead vehicle has crossed the intersection in accordance with the
traffic-control sign or signal, or when directed to do so by a law enforcement
officer or funeral director, or when being led by a law enforcement vehicle,
all vehicles in the funeral procession may proceed through the intersection
without stopping, while using extra care towards other vehicles or pedestrians.

• All vehicles in a funeral procession must be driven on the right side of the road
and shall follow the vehicle ahead as closely as reasonable and prudent.

• The driver of a vehicle going in the opposite direction as a funeral procession
may yield to the procession. If the driver chooses to yield, the driver must
do so by reducing speed, or by stopping completely off the roadway so that
drivers of other vehicles proceeding in the opposite direction of the procession
can continue to travel without leaving their lane of traffic.

• The driver of a vehicle traveling in the same direction as the funeral procession
shall not pass or attempt to pass the funeral procession, except that the
operator of such a vehicle may pass a funeral procession when the highway has
been marked for two or more lanes of moving traffic in the same direction of
the funeral procession.

• The driver of a vehicle shall not knowingly drive between vehicles in a funeral
procession. When a funeral procession is proceeding through a red light, the
driver of a vehicle that is not in the procession shall not enter the intersection
even if facing a green light, unless it can be done safely and without crossing
the path of the procession."

I don't get that either. I see people do this in the country all of the time even when there are no driveways to turn into. If you're in the city and there are 10 places to turn into on a two lane road over about a mile then yeah maybe, but even if an emergency vehicle is going to turn in front of you, they would come to a stop and you would be able to figure out that you need to stop.

I think that sometimes has to do with the cleanup. When they are done, the tow truck will pull out onto the road and someone will probably touch their brakes which causes the already slow moving traffic to touch their brakes. It's sort of like a red light. You can be 10 cars back and see it turn green first, but you still have to wait for the other 9 cars ahead of you to start and get up to speed before you can start and get up to full speed.

Thank you rubber neckers for making me late to work this morning. All 8 lanes of the interstate don't need to come to a stop just because there is a dent in the back of a mini van and a motorcycle cop at the scene of the wreck.

^I only saw one on I-40 west around Wade Ave I think at about 9:40 am. Before that there was a lady getting her flat tire changed by one of those state workers in the yellow trucks. No one seemed to stop to look at that though. I don't get why people think they have to slow down when they are 4 lanes away from the wreck and no one in the other 3 lanes is switching lanes.

when a cop/sheriff blocks an intersection so that a funeral procession can go by without worrying about traffic lights, it sounds like TWWers just ignore it and speed through the procession
