Discuss.Over the past week I've seen Bernie (awesome) and Sound of Noise (EPIC, best of 2012 so far).Check em out. (I saw both at the Galaxy, but I think the Colony/Rialto has them too.)]

i watched Rubber the other day.it was awful.
6/7/2012 1:48:02 PM
I watched Bernie, I liked it
6/7/2012 3:37:13 PM
I hope Bernie is better than the trailer made it seem, because the trailer is fucking awful.
6/7/2012 4:04:43 PM
Does it pick up the adventure where Weekend At Bernie's II left off?
6/7/2012 4:14:46 PM
Independent film thread? Is Entertainment becoming Sports Talk?
6/7/2012 5:15:03 PM
Good thread. I'm too lazy to keep up with what is good currently and usually watch everything after the consensus is out.I saw Another Earth on a whim at Galaxy a while back. It was decent but it had a lot of quick zoom in shots which I hate.
6/7/2012 5:27:58 PM
^Exactly.Another Earth is one I was pissed I didn't see.]
6/7/2012 5:29:57 PM
I've heard bad things about Another Earth. That it's a shitty melodrama with a lazy sci-fi backdrop. But I liked Brit Marling's other movie Sound of my Voice. Good cult movie. So maybe I heard wrong about Another Earth[Edited on June 7, 2012 at 6:53 PM. Reason : .]
6/7/2012 6:52:49 PM
I didn't care for Another Earth.
6/7/2012 9:03:05 PM
I, too didn't care for Another Earth.
6/8/2012 11:10:19 PM
Monsieur LazharReally good. The kids were great actors.
6/11/2012 9:19:33 PM
Going to see Headhunters tonight. Been looking forward to it, 92% at Rotten Tomatoes.
6/18/2012 8:58:07 PM
48 hour film festival this weekend. w00t
6/18/2012 9:04:28 PM
Where?
6/18/2012 9:05:22 PM
i think he meant 48 hour film project/raceand film drop-off is in Greensboro[Edited on June 18, 2012 at 9:33 PM. Reason : .]
6/18/2012 9:33:24 PM
Headhunters was even better than expected. It doesn't hold back whatsoever.
6/20/2012 3:58:53 PM
^^ My apologies. You are correct.
6/20/2012 4:09:46 PM
I've been itching to see Beasts of Southern Wild for a while now:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LA6FFnjvvmgI don't think it'll play in the Triangle for a couple of months though.
6/20/2012 4:12:59 PM
I didn't like the first 20 minutes or so of Another Earth, but overall i really liked it. It's on TWC On-demand right now.I want to see Sound of Noise and there's another one that has the word "noise" in the title as well that i want to see. Galaxy had both a week or two ago but I think they're done playing there.
6/20/2012 4:32:16 PM
Moonrise Kingdom coming to my local indie house Friday. will be seeing.
6/20/2012 4:42:33 PM
^^Yeah, they're both gone. Headhunters is there right now, and some acclaimed documentary about ballet that doesn't interest me in the least.^I'm a whore for Wes Anderson. F the haters.]
6/20/2012 4:43:30 PM
Headhunters has Jamie Lannister in it, so that's a plus.

Yep, I was talking about Sound of My Voice when I said "another one with the word 'noise'" though. "Sound" is what was in both titles, not noise. Both were playing about two weeks ago. Thanks, now hopefully I'll remember that and will look for it.I want to see Moonrise Kingdom too. But I have really tough time thinking of it as being "independent" whether it is or not. It's handled by Focus which is a subsidiary of Universal. Focus is just the label Universal uses when they want to push an "artsy" movie. I guess they may have picked it up after it was made and all, but it's Wes Anderson (who has a built in audience)... and it has ed norton, bruce willis, bill murray, etc. in it. If you're pretty much guaranteed that a movie will be bought by a studio... is it still independent?when I hear "independent" I don't actually think independent anyhow. I think "small", "small release", "lesser known", etc. Mostly because in my experience, that's what people are talking about when they talk about "independent films", not the funding source. And honestly, I don't give a shit about the funding and distribution source unless the conversation is about the business side. But I do like smaller films because they tend to stray a little further from the formulaic, tried and true, etc.[Edited on June 21, 2012 at 1:18 AM. Reason : .]V yeah, sorry. I was confused by your post at first (it's late for me). But then I re-read it and realized you were just trying to clarify it for me and made the edit... only to find that you posted before i made my edit [Edited on June 21, 2012 at 1:19 AM. Reason : .]

The Signal - psychological thriller - awesome, violent creative, some funny bits. A good watch whether you're fucked up or not

#savethegalaxyThis would piss me off so much. Cary's only redeeming quality. http://www.newraleigh.com/article/downtown-raleigh-will-take-galaxy-cinema-if-it-gets-demolished/http://www.newsobserver.com/2012/06/25/2158770/carys-galaxy-cinema-may-be-demolished.html]
6/26/2012 1:09:38 PM
Guess its not an independent, but To Rome with Love was pretty bad.]
7/8/2012 11:58:55 PM
^ Saw it and it was indeed subpar. Not new but watched Irreversible this weekend thanks to this list.http://www.avclub.com/articles/not-again-24-great-films-too-painful-to-watch-twic,2048/Jesus Criminy.

has anyone seen Your Sister's Sister yet? Just opened at my indie theater here. Previews before Moonrise Kingdom looked good.
7/9/2012 4:35:35 PM
Nah, its "coming soon" according to the Galaxy website. It does look good.
7/9/2012 5:00:40 PM
Which one of the 50 Mark Duplass movies coming out this summer is that again?
7/9/2012 5:32:39 PM
Beasts of the Southern Wild is now showing in the Triangle. Looks good.
7/27/2012 3:12:31 AM
8/12/2012 11:33:58 PM
Has anyone seen Samsara?Thoughts?
10/8/2012 11:09:23 AM
I watched Bernie last week. Great, great movie.
10/8/2012 12:24:59 PM
not so much Independent as it is Foreign. I'm trying to remember the name of the film released this year. I believe it's south american and it revolves around a police detective inside a nightclub. he's searching for something while trying to protect someone. Can anyone help? Sorry there isn't more to go on.found it. It was the French film Sleepless Night. Did anyone ever see this? ]
10/31/2012 3:31:14 PM
watched Sleepwalk With Me today. It's all based on Mike Birbiglia's comedy which most of us have probably heard but I thought it was very well done. Will probably watch Take This Waltz next. not sure why i've been watching doomed relationship movies lately.
12/21/2012 4:36:34 PM
finally caught Your Sister's Sister last night. Really enjoyed it. I'm quite a fan of Mark Duplass these days and will be watching Safety Not Guaranteed tonight.also have Jeff Who Lives at Home and The 5-Year Engagement to watch as well.]
2/7/2013 1:52:30 PM
I really enjoyed Sleepwalk with Me. Not so much Your Sister's Sister, and I'm a big Duplass fan. Couldn't get around the whole lets all be friends after you poked a hole in the condom deal.
2/7/2013 2:10:14 PM
yeah...i think we needed more history between the sisters so that decision would make more sense on whole. but Duplass's monologue at the end was great.
2/7/2013 2:35:59 PM
Jeepin recommended Safety not Guaranteed to me after he watched it and yep. Loved it.
2/7/2013 11:21:55 PM
i thought the performances on SNG absolutely made the film. One of the most enjoyable i've watched in awhile.
2/8/2013 8:09:16 AM
Watched the 2009 Irish film 'Ondine' tonight. Really enjoyed it. It's on Netflix.
2/12/2013 9:39:52 PM
Liberal Arts (2012) written, directed, and starring Josh Radnor (HIMYM)cute film, some problems, thought it displayed the awkardness that is an age gap of that size really well. I now have a small crush on Elizabeth Olsen.
2/26/2013 9:42:39 AM
^She's the only reason I got through that awful Jane Fonda indie from last year. Name escapes me.
2/26/2013 11:37:13 AM
Peace Love and Misunderstanding?was it that bad?
2/26/2013 11:46:29 AM
It wasn't good. Felt like a Lifetime movie.
2/26/2013 11:51:39 AM
bttt. I finally caught the film Friends With Kids. It's another film from Jennifer Westfeldt (Kissing Jessica Stein). It's got a great cast, with several of them playing different parts than we're accustomed to seeing. has anyone seen it?
