the frame is twisted (corkscrewed) and needs to be straightened, and I need the tongue welded on. it's pretty much a rolling accident waiting to happen, but it's all I've got. Needs some basic electrical work too which I'm planning on doing but if it can get thrown in to the deal on the cheap I'm gameit's a 12' metal trailer with wood slats and a ramp on the endTHANKS!

if it twisted up once, what's gonna keep it from doing that again (assuming you can actually straighten it out)?
5/22/2012 8:08:42 PM
an act of god, I'm assumingI mean if I have to I'll chain it to a tree and straighten it with a come-along but I'd rather a professional do it. It's not terrible, more interested in the wiring and tongue welding, but I'm busy and would just like to knock it all out at once
5/22/2012 8:22:11 PM
how did the tongue come un-put-together from the trailer?

not sure, it's my dad's trailer but I'm using it for a project. thing is a frankenstein, the tongue is bolted/clamped on but it makes me nervous and I'd rather it be welded

Daniels Trailer between Garner/Claytonbut if it is gonna be a lot of work, you might be better off replacing it. This is 6'x12'? Enclosed? I see things like this at the auction all the time but they aren't worth saving usually. Anyhow Daniels will check it out and tell you if it is worth the trouble or not, but you will need to take it down there somehow.

For the electrical it's just easier to buy a new wiring kit that comes with lights, wires, etc. Old wiring gets brittle, contacts inside the lights get corrosion, etc. $20-$40 for a full kit depending on which one you buy at Northern Tool and it's a super quick install.

^Harbor Freight has a full kit for $20 for incandescent or $35 for LED.

I prefer LED so when they pull me for busted lenses I tell them to suck it since it still displays red.

Probably a good idea if you back into shit all the time.
5/24/2012 2:14:06 PM
True, I do back into things from time to time. Its a trailer, its life is hard, that's why the lights are cheap. I bet you never back into anything with your little recreational use mini-trailer.
5/24/2012 10:41:26 PM
i don't back trailers into things because i know how to drive.
5/25/2012 11:20:29 AM
I actually look for other people pulling spotless, scratch free trailers and back into them.

Bolted tongue is pretty typical construction.

Anybody have info on pull behind Grills. Like registering it and get tags for it. my buddy want to take his to the Kickoff game in Atlanta at the end of the month. we are mounting lights on it now at least. It's mounted on a axle and not on a trailer. about this size

^pretty sure you just go to the DMV and tell them you need to register a homemade trailer; they'll ask some questions, give you a form, and then you have to go visit the SHP for an inspection (they'll check safety stuff - lights, tag location, etc.) and sign-off on the form. Then you take that back to the DMV and get a tag and registration card for it. At least that's how I remember doing it.[Edited on August 11, 2012 at 6:52 PM. Reason : .]
