So my old boss calls up and I have no idea what to tell him...He has these receipt printers that won't report when they're out of paper. It causes a big headache because the cash drawers won't open if the printer is in an error state (which anyone with half a brain can see by looking at the printer). Is there any way to have something popup telling the user that the paper is out? Would it require custom printer drivers or is there a simpler solution? (or does it just depend)I fucking hate printers and don't have the slightest idea where to begin looking.

Durr, would "Show informational notifications for local printers" under print server properties perform this function?

It may be too simple and not what you're looking for, but the rolls of receipt paper have pink on them at the end of the roll to let you know to replace them soon.

I knowBut these people may as well be legally retarded.Something literally needs to get in the way of them continuing to use the computer. You'd think the shitty POS they use would have some sort of error reporting, but apparently not.[Edited on May 21, 2012 at 9:28 PM. Reason : 'd]
