Made the mistake yesterday of test driving one of these. Wife really would prefer an E350 but even driving the E550 it was just not the same. Think I will have to keep my Camry for a DD and get the C63. Unreal how much fun that car is. Anyone else have one or driven one?
5/13/2012 7:05:06 PM
Driven a few, they're cool. I can't imagine somebody having a Camry and a C63.. The C63 is the very definition of a daily driver, get that, get rid of the Camry ->win.
5/13/2012 7:15:08 PM
Well I figured the way I drive it I will be getting 9 MPG. So having my 30MPG Camry on the 20 mile commute would be good and then take the Benz on Fridays and out for fun on weekend.I won't get a lot for the Camry its an 08 so probably 10K at most.
5/13/2012 7:18:59 PM
if you have half a brain you'll drive it and get >9mpg.

^^ I was getting about 9mpg when I was driving it this weekend. I get that I probably won't floor it all the time but at 13mpg listed for city I don't think its 2 far off.

What in the hell? A C63 AMG is right up there with the BMW M3 as the ultimate daily driver machines ever produced. Unless you have a very long commute, you won't save enough gas money by DDing the Camry to offset the cost of keeping the extra car, let alone the downside of having to drive a fucking Camry every day while the AMG sits unused......and if (like me) you do fall into that fairly unusual category where it makes sense to have an uber-boring, efficient car to DD, plus something badass to keep as a toy, then I submit that a C63 AMG is a poor choice for that, on the grounds that it's too compromised and not nearly focused enough on performance and driving enjoyment. If you want something just as a toy, you can get something that is either a much better toy, or much less expensive, or really, both. The whole point of the C63 AMG is to have a car that is not the best at anything, but pretty damned awesome at everything--for a price. It makes no sense to have a specialist DD and a generalist toy. You either ante up for a great generalist car and have it do everything, as that's its entire raison d'etre, or you ante up for 2 cars, both of which are specialists at what they do.(or you're just indifferent to cars and drive one modestly priced appliance car, because you don't give a fuck about anything other than cost-effective, reliable transportation to begin with).

what duke and ahmet said.
5/14/2012 12:16:59 AM
friend gave me a ride in his... damn, that thing is fucking awesome.sounded like a lambo when downshifting! even threw out flames, at least that's what it sounded like.
5/14/2012 5:02:56 AM
Fuck the haters Russ. That car's a blast, and almost every comparison I've seen between it and the M3 says the C63 is more fun anywhere except a race track. And the AMG has an intoxicating exhaust note. The gas mileage issue kinda sucks, but whatever. Get it and enjoy!
5/14/2012 8:16:22 AM
i've said it time and time again.... i would drive an _63 mercedes IF THEY CAME WITH A REAL MANUAL TRANSMISSION
5/14/2012 8:19:10 AM
exactly the reason mercedes is not on my radar.
5/14/2012 8:52:37 AM
concur. awesome car, but needs a 3rd pedal.
5/14/2012 10:43:48 AM
satisfy your wife and yourself == get an e63
5/14/2012 12:16:58 PM
^^ yep, or at least a dual-clutch box^^^^Nobody's hating--we're just saying it's nonsensical to have a DD Camry and a C63 AMG as a weekend toy.
5/14/2012 12:55:01 PM
not if you're looking at it from a cost point of view.I use my Integra to DD a lot because its value has bottomed out. It really can't get any lower, and it gets better gas mileage then the S2000. Is it foolish of me because they're both semi practical cars?
5/14/2012 1:07:15 PM
there is a bit of difference between an 08 camry DD and an early 90s integra DD. furthermore, a c63 is significantly more practical than both an s2000 and integra. it's an apples to oranges comparison.
5/14/2012 1:13:07 PM
there's no practicality in an s2000, no storage space, no passenger space, not quiet, bad gas mileage. the c63 has almost none of these disadvantages besides poor mileage. however, if you can afford a c63 as a play thing, you can afford the gas to drive it daily. sell the camry if you get the c63... unless you really want to look cool on your saturday errand run to target, and no other time, then the plan seems ok.
5/14/2012 2:15:44 PM
My friend who gave me a ride in his C63 (student, actually), said he tested the M3 before buying, and the M3 definitely had better performance, but he said the C63 was more fun, and the main reason he picked the C63 over the M3 is the orgasmic exhaust and engine note.
5/14/2012 2:52:42 PM
^^driving the C63 a lot will lead to high depreciation costs. Piling mileage onto the Camry will do less so. Maintenance costs are also considerably less for the Camry. These are not minor details.^Not in a straight line though.

^ WIN! i think they get decent milage too.
5/14/2012 3:51:58 PM
13/19 for a car that weighs 5081lb, same exact mileage as E93 M3.738ft.lb. 20sec 0-150mph. better braking than SLR.I think kleeman ecu update alone is like 900+ ft.lb.
5/14/2012 4:09:25 PM
Nothing in the AMG lineup, save maybe the gullwing, is a good dedicated toy. That's what vettes, vipers, porsches, and stuff like S2000s are for.
5/14/2012 10:59:42 PM
I don't know how you guys do this "daily driver" thing, using fuel economy/depreciation, etc. to justify an additional vehicle that is (typically) a terrible car.If you just can't handle daily driving a car that's too nice, or too expensive or whatever, just get one that you can. I'd much rather have something like a chipped 335i as my only car instead of a C63 and a Camry. I've had multiple cars before, cars that one could argue complimented each other, like a WRX Wagon and a modified C5 Corvette/911, but I just ended up driving my favorite car all the time instead. Maybe you guys have better self control than I do, but life is too short to worry about keeping a "fun" car for the weekend and making do in a craptastic beater. I will never understand Duke's Prius + C5 z06 dreams, nor TKE's ability to put up w/a shitbox integra so he can drive his *slightly* torquier S2000 -do I have that backwards? I kid. Well sort of...
5/14/2012 11:43:02 PM
ITT, we see that everyone should all be like Ahmet?
5/15/2012 7:21:28 AM
lol.... one way or the otha brotha. To be flat out honest with you... where i'm at with my car i find myself driving way above the posted limit to have fun with it anymore. That's one of the reason's i like the wife's 6 speed kia soul... you can feel like you're driving fast without actually driving fast. Ultimately my feeling is... drive what makes you happy... justify the cost however you'd like. I will tell you this.. on a rainy day i wouldn't trade my AWD for shit... it's fun fucking with cars that would be fast had they had traction.
5/15/2012 8:06:07 AM
5/15/2012 8:17:57 AM
dude how many miles do you have on that integra now?
5/15/2012 9:52:55 AM
292,918 as of this morning

5/15/2012 10:09:06 AM
Thanks for all the great advice. I think I am going to drive a few more cars and/or maybe put a few more miles on the Camry if I do think about trading it in. The maintenance and depreciation costs of the camry will be very low for the next year so may look at doing that and saving more for the fun car if I am going to trade it in.I still may end up going with both. It has been wrecked a couple times (rear ended and hit a deer) so not expecting to get a lot for it. I also want to drive the cts v . I have driven the M3 and agree that its very tight and would be awesome on a track. I still felt the C63 was more fun for me.
5/15/2012 8:31:24 PM
despite the haters, I'd keep the camry if it's paid off

LOL. Guy at work has a C63 that he only drives on the weekend but a brand new Kia Optima (the Turbo model) for his DD.Makes no fucking sense that he has spend 100+K on 2 cars within 2 years. He has like a 8, maybe 10 mile, commute to work.It would have made so much more sense for him to just pick one, or just get a used lower end BMW/Mercedes and used that for a DD that's still very very fun. That, or take the money he spent on a C63 and get an actual sports car, and not a compromise (though a very good compromise).
5/15/2012 9:50:29 PM
5/15/2012 10:03:31 PM
i'd really love a cts-v wagon 6 speed... yep... i sureeeeee would...
5/16/2012 6:42:09 AM
5/16/2012 9:10:55 AM
^Yeah that's just odd. I love the turbo Optima, but why would you get one if you have a C63? And, for that matter, if your round-trip work commute is > 20 miles, why bother with a DD in the first place? Unless you're super gung-ho nuts about keeping the miles on the C63 low low low. And in that case get something cheaper. Or that gets >40 MPG. Or used. Or...

My old GTI is a bad example. I looked for one of those because I wanted to drive one for a few weeks, it wasn't to save money and it certainly wasn't to keep me "fancy car" nice and clean. Please I drive my cars across country and spend so much time sideways in them the paint around the rear bumper gets sandblasted.

I didn't even really post it to flaunt. Just saying, I don't see much point in the C63. Might as well just get a Z06.
