Other threads were too old to bumpI was discussing going back to school with my co-worker/boss and we all agreed that having a MS in biostatistics would probably be a good life choice. Also, I wouldn't have to work in a stinky lab anymore.Has anyone here actually received an online masters degree and had it taken seriously? I was looking at the program at Texas A&M but I don't want to drop the cash and the years of my life if all I end up with is debt and a worthless piece of paper. UNC and NCSU both have statistics masters programs but I would rather do it online and keep my full-time job/benefits in the process.]

I can give you the viewpoint as someone who works in admissions. An online degree from a real university such as Texas A&M is fine. Most of the time the university won't even put anywhere on the transcript it was an online program. You'd have to go and research that yourself to even know. Degrees from places like University of Phoenix or Devry? Save your money. That said my dad got his Master's from Devry because they were the only online program at the time in what he needed and his company didn't give a damn where the degree came from as long as it didn't require him to go to classes during business hours.

yea I know a completely online university would be a waste of time but Texas A&M has a 100% online program and it's a legit school. Thanks

Getting a masters from Western Governors University but don't really care if its meaningless because it allows me to do jobs that I could already do but they have a "must have a masters degree" requirement built in.

Got my MS from a tradition school but online curriculum. It says nowhere on my transcript or degree that the classes or program were online. I would think that degrees earned from phoenix/etc are not given as much credence as degrees from traditional schools.

a friend of mine is getting his MBA online from ECU (went there for undergrad too) and he recently got picked up by Deloitte so it has to be taken pretty seriously
