I used to take my stuff to Passage (they pay 40% of the item's sale price to you), but I gave them a couple of brand new pairs of shoes to sell and they never showed up on my sales reports, so I'm looking for some other options. I would like to consign both clothes and household goods, if that matters.

Why would you ever consign anything and give up 60% of the money? Am I reading that correctly? You give them something that sells for $100 and you only get $40???You'd be better off selling it on CL or eBay.

I'm not listing every piece of clothing etc on ebay. There's a reason I'm consigning...]

what are you selling? I like buying shit

Put some shit up in Classifieds. I know TWW isn't always generous, but some of us are poor students that would buy clothes/shoes/household stuff at a decent price.

dress does 50/50 rather than a 40/60

^That's pretty fair. Is this the "Dress Consignment Boutique" that Google tells me is in the Whole Foods shopping center? My girlfriend is looking for something like this.

eBay/Paypal only takes 20% but there is more work involved.[Edited on May 1, 2012 at 9:19 AM. Reason : eBay also gets 210 million unique visitors monthly.]

You can't really sell clothes on eBay. Shoes, maybe, but not really clothes. People want to be able to see it in person and try it on.Which is why consignment stores do so nicely. It's also a friendlier environment to the consumer - they're more apt to buy, as it seems natural to buy clothes in that setting (as opposed to eBay/Craigslist).Um, if you have some name brand stuff, you could try Plato's - you at least don't have to wait for the items to sell (I believe you get cash in hand). There's My Secret Closet (right near the outlet mall in Mebane): http://www.mysecretcloset.com/consigning.htm They give 40% for items less than $100. Also can bring in household goods it looks like. It always looks like a lot of people are in the store in Mebane.

^ Thanks for the info...sounds like 40% might be the standard rate around here. I'll just have to keep a closer eye on the place I've been going if no one has any other good ones (Mebane is kinda far for me).

As a frequent consignor, here's my advice: Don't waste your time at Plato's Closet. Try Revolver (Glenwood Ave) and Adore (2 locations - Creedmoor Rd and Cary Parkway).]

And I thought consigning a guitar for an 18% commission was harsh.

You'll find it easier to sell a guitar than 20 random pieces of clothing...and you'll probably get more money from the single transaction than the 20 involving clothing.]

Any new ones?

I used to sell my clothes on eBay before my sister grew up so now I just pass everything down to her. If you have clothes all the same size (or just about), try selling it as a lot on ebay and that way you don't really have to list out every item and size but just a general statement about the sizes or what's included in the lot. Just line everything up together and take one picture of all the clothes. I used to get quite a few bids on my "clothing lots".
