We're going for a quick weekend getaway. I know practically nothing about the area...http://www.visitwilliamsburg.com/index.aspx is helpful, but a bit slow. Any recommendations on lodging? I'd like to stay near colonial Williamsburg with some kind of attempt at historic feel to the place. Restaurants of the same aforementioned feel nearby would be a plus. Need to have some non-history shit within a reasonable distance too. shopping and the like.Quality > price. We're willing to pay for what we want to get.[Edited on March 29, 2012 at 8:53 PM. Reason : We have a 10month old, so any places with kid-free policies are out ]

Eating:Chowning's Tavern (In Colonial Williamsburg)Le Yaca (French restaurant that is amazing, albeit expensive)Definitely do Colonial Williamsburg. There is also a lot of shopping right next to it in Merchant's Square. There are also a lot of museums around Colonial Williamsburg that aren't tied to the colonial aspect. An old asylum too that's pretty cool to walk through.[Edited on March 29, 2012 at 9:02 PM. Reason : ]

Yes, the outlet mall is large and extensive, and pretty good. Merchant's Square is more of the historic themed shopping, and a few upscale shops. One of the neat things about Merchant's Square is that you can find pieces of pottery/furniture/decor made in Colonial Williamsburg with some sort of a defect, so it's sold at a hugely discounted rate. There are also a ton of antique stores around the area you can hit too, if you are interested in that type of thing.
