"Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome may get demoted back to being a webseries

No new Battlestar Galactica on your television screens? That's a possibility, according to AOL TV's Maureen Ryan. Syfy is considering turning its latest Battlestar Galactica prequel, Blood and Chrome, back into a webseries.

When Blood and Chrome was originally commissioned, back in July 2010, the plan was for it to be a webseries of nine or ten episodes of around 10 minutes each, shot in greenscreen. Then, around the time Syfy pulled the plug on Caprica, the network decided to air Blood and Chrome as a TV movie — and as a possible backdoor pilot that could lead to a new series.

Now Syfy has seen an early cut of the TV movie, without most of the visual effects completed — and they're thinking of turning it back into a webseries, the network's EVP Mark Stern told Ryan. Stern said that a decision on Blood and Chrome's release date was not imminent, and it was still a possibility that they would air it as a TV movie/backdoor pilot. But they're seriously considering transforming it back into a series of webisodes. (It's a bad sign that Syfy doesn't automatically consider this production as worthy of TV-movie status as, say, Killer Mountain. Or Mega-Python Vs. Gatoroid. Etc. etc.)

Blood and Chrome follows William Adama as a young man, fighting in the first Cylon war and learning the hard lessons of combat and sacrifice. He's ordered to escort a young woman, who turns out to know some vitally important Cylon secrets. We read a ton of script pages a while back and we were pretty happy with the BSG-ish feel of the thing. But on the other hand, an argument could be made for letting the BSG universe stay off the air for a few years, so it could be brought back with a bigger bang down the line. That could be part of the calculation that's going on here. [AOL TV]

Guess they don't want this interfering with RASSLIN!

Fuck SyFy. SciFi was where it was at. No BSG, No Stargate, pulling the plug on Eureka. Warehouse 13 is about the only decent show left on the damned channel.

No, I gave it up until its midseason break (after they had decided to cancel it) I wanted to like it, but man, it was bad.

OH SHIT SON!!! I hope the actual show is going to look as cool as the trailer makes it out to be. Lots of cool fx. I just hope it doesn't die or suck really bad.

And yeah, I couldn't even get past the first few episodes of Caprica. And SGU was the suxors

it was decent, but out of all of the SG's it sucked. But you have to be out of the SG frame of mind to actually enjoy it. I still watched it, I'm just pissed that they left it so open ended when they ended season 2.

I actually liked SGU more than SGA. It got so formulaic and repetitive. I thought SGU was a nice change of pace for the SG series. And yes it got very good.

SGU sucked. it didnt get better.

SGA owned until it got off track in parts of the later seasons with michael and what not. that shit kinda sucked. even then they managed some good eps.

sgu just had boring characters and boring plots and took itself way too serious. i mean come the fuck on. no one believes the lucian alliance, the elmer fudd of stargate, is all of a sudden this super smart and organized force. it was really fucking bad.

Yeah, SGA got a bit weird and their season 4 and 5 went to shit.

But the premise of being lost 700 billion light years on a ship is really far fetched, even for scifi standards. They could have made it totally better than it was, but it was nice that they were at least attempting to change the repetitiveness shooting style and storytelling. Don't get me wrong, it was entertaining, but nothing from the show yells out "watch me again!".

Since SGU went down, there really hasn't been a truely good all space/scifi show. Unless I've completely missed something. (why can't they make a new firefly series??!?! lol)

I'm hoping they make a damn new startrek series soon... Its getting to that time of the generation for something; specially since the revival of the movies. Would love to see something past the time line of voyager and DS9; or maybe something concurrent but a different point of view... but not caprica style... fuck that

Yeah, I watch Fringe, but not a space techy scifi flick, still good for x-files replacement; yup, love me castle. He really needs to push for firefly 2 or something... lol

I just wonder if the "web episodes" are going to be worth if since they'll only be 10mins long; almost makes it worth wild if it was just a short movie or do like they did with last BSG, just make it a 2 part mini series.

^ from what i've read, they're still going to air the pilot. They're just not going to make a tv series out of it.

"Anyway, those restrictive, old-fashioned television boxes will still air the 90-minute pilot at some yet-to-be-determined date, with the decision on actually producing any webisodes now safely put off into the intentionally vague realm of being “pursued.” "

I got sick last year and was bed ridden for a few months. I came across BSG marathon and was immediately hooked. It was a great series, and would love to see a follow up (or prequel). But not a web-series.

I am all about some BSG

There is a prequel series (TV), called Caprica. It's not nearly as good as BSG though.
