I'm not sure how/where to look for something like this...Google has not been forthcoming. The last several years we've used in our kitchen a stack of sponges we acquired when a restaurant closed (RIP Quagmires ) They're about 2x4x1 inches in size when wet & came in a plastic sleeve, like a bulk type thing. Any ideas tww?

There's a restaurant supply store on S. Saunders but I'm thinking your best bet is going to be Costco or Sam's.

^^ Saw those, that's my plan B. Was trying to see if I could buy enough to get them under $.5 each. ^ Live on the Outer Banks, though I did look for some local professional supply places...only one I found was a former client of mine, and I ain't buyin shit from him

Are you sponge worthy?

Sponges are kind of nasty, but what else are you going to use when handwashing dishes?I always nuke mine in the microwave before using. 2:00 is more than long enough to start to boil the water inside, and bingo, sanitized sponge.

I only use a sponge to get chunky/sticky stuff off of dishes before putting 'em in the dishwasher.
3/16/2012 9:14:47 AM
i use the sponge on a stick that you can put soap in thing to scrub dishes pre-dishwasher. something like this...

Costco with the plastic scrubber back thing. Also steel wool to undo damage on cast iron from roommates, and on bicycle parts.

what the hell do you "eeewwww sponges" people use then? a rag?
3/16/2012 10:43:35 AM

yup. it's just plastic, michael graves from target. i've used 2 different ones. the one i like better has a scraper on one side & bristles on the other. it's short; the handle's maybe 5" long. i couldn't find it on the site, but they have it in the store near all the other michael graves cleaning stuffs.this is the other one. it's better for deep pots so you don't have to stick your entire arm all in there.http://www.target.com/p/Michael-Graves-Kitchen-Brush-Cool-Breeze-Blue/-/A-13163108

I, too, use a brush for dishes, knives, cutting boards, etc.The Calphalon stainless pots/pans get the steel pot scrubber treatment though.

I know Trader Joe's sells sponges that have been compressed and dried and store VERY thin in a stack of about 5. Can't tell you the price.
3/16/2012 3:22:23 PM
we use dishrags. we don't have a dishwasher.

Unless you clean and microwave your sponge frequently, it's nothing but a bacteria-laden danger. I use paper towels and dish rags, which get cleaned/cleaned after use.
