This probably isn't thread worthy but I was just curious if the majority of you feel that State would be better off in another conference. I've read on a couple of different blogs, media pages, and forums that there is a growing opinion among the fans that NC State should leave the ACC. I never actually thought that enough people would be ok with this but the more I read, the more I see people openly confirm this. Don't get me wrong. I hate UNC and especially Duke more than most. I especially hate it when the outcomes of games are heavily influenced by poor officiating but would leaving the ACC for another conference really be a good idea? I honestly don't know. I have to admit that the more I've read some on of these arguments, the more I am on the fence about starting over in a new conference.Thoughts?[Edited on February 20, 2012 at 12:38 PM. As stupid as I think leaving the conference would be, Swofford has made it evident several times recently that he is a massive douchebag. If there was a serious offer from another conference out there (or even a strong rumor of one), it would be nice if our administration would hang the idea out there to see what the ACC's reaction would be.In b4 "we're a founding member of the ACC and we're not gonna leave". When we start getting treated like a founding member, I'll start taking that as a valid response.
2/20/2012 12:34:48 PM
Joining another conference would be running away from the problem. We should work out our problems with the ACC and now Yow has a lot of reason to stand her ground and confront the conference on these issues. For starters, I think the refs wont screw us over so much if the ACC takes our issue seriously. I believe leaving the conference could be used as a threat if needed.[Edited on February 20, 2012 at 12:36 PM. Reason : ...]

IBTL.I thought this thread would be more about how the ACC sucks in football and basketball sans Duke/UNC.As for leaving the conference, it is a stupid idea. State will never be shit in football so the ACC is where we need to stay for competitiveness sake and obviously the ACC is going to again be the best conference in bball once Pitt and Syracuse are added. No way we leave. The officiating will always suck.
2/20/2012 12:37:06 PM
this isn't just about basketball
2/20/2012 12:38:05 PM
Joining another conference is a pussy move.ibtl

We would be better off in the NFC East for football. The $$$ we would make would tower above the SEC.And no the NFC South wouldn't be better because the Panthers are not our rivals. ]

2/20/2012 12:41:29 PM
well it certainly can be viewed that wayHowever, one would think that if State joined the SEC (which is a popular speculation on a lot of boards) that our football recruiting would get better. I don't know if that is true or not because TOB tends to recruit guys who aren't stars anyway. However, because of the TV coverage that the SEC gets, I would assume that it would have some kind of positive impact. Basketball on the other hand, I honestly think we would be ranked among the top in the SEC. Football would be difficult.
2/20/2012 12:41:33 PM
if we leave and join the SEC we'll have this same discussion in 5-10 years once Kentucky and Florida get all the calls against us in basketball and Alabama, Florida, Auburn, LSU beat the shit out of our football team every single year
2/20/2012 12:42:56 PM
The point no one likes to make is that we are 99.999999999999% to blame for our "ACC Conference Woes", whatever the hell that is. Not the boogeymen in the ACC Office, ref uniforms, or Durham/CH.]
2/20/2012 12:46:08 PM
While I agree that the refs didn't decide the Duke or FSU game, it's hard to argue that they didn't heavily affect either one.
2/20/2012 12:47:46 PM
Yow, yourself, and Bobby Purcell could have been the refs for the FSU game and we would have lost.
2/20/2012 12:48:56 PM
I just said that the refs didn't decide the game against FSU...
2/20/2012 12:52:06 PM
Boy, sports talk sucks when we're losingGet fucked, VOLTAR
2/20/2012 12:58:45 PM
It's not the refs calls that irks people causes people to want to leave the conference. In this case, it's the conference's reaction to the ejections. It's Swofford tearing apart the history of our basketball schedule dating back to 1912. And those are just the complaints of the last 1-2 weeks.I 100% agree that if we just had consistent (moderately) successful seasons (with an occasional great/bad one peppered in there) over the last two decades, we might not be facing the problems we are. But either way, most feel that we are getting disrespected by the conference that we helped found. It's nice to see that we finally have an AD that feels the same way.Like I said, I don't see us leaving the conference, but I don't think it should be totally out of the equation given the fact that we're no longer treated like a founding member.[Edited on February 20, 2012 at 1:02 PM. i'm as on board w/ joining the SEC as anybody, but if you think we're going to get more respect elsewhere then you should re-evaluate your position, perhaps.

I'd be fine with leaving the ACC. Don't really care if we went to the SEC, Big East, or what.[Edited on February 20, 2012 at 1:29 PM. Reason : ]
2/20/2012 1:21:21 PM
In my mind, it's not even about getting more respect. I just don't want to constantly be shit on by a conference that we're supposed to be an integral part of.I doubt that the average fan thinks of all the ramifications of leaving, but I still think it would be nice for the administration to use the threat of leaving to gauge the reaction of everyone. If Swofford/the ACC is indifferent, then fuck them. I'd rather attempt to leave for greener pastures than stay in one that is dismantling our biggest basketball rivalry, etc., etc.
2/20/2012 1:26:06 PM
Don't understand how we're being constantly shit on by the ACCOur basketball program has been a shitshow for a years with no help from Swofford. Football will never be nationally prominent in the ACC and will never win a game in the SEC. Know your role.
2/20/2012 1:28:40 PM
AuH20 gets itIt's a culmination of things that goes way beyond poor basketball officiating that seems like the only justification for leaving the conference.Ernie, are you incapable of having an intelligent discussion or does being a 24/7 troll just give you a tiny boner?[Edited on February 20, 2012 at 1:31 PM. If we leave the ACC, we'd get stuck with the dying big east or the shitstorm of the cusa/mwc conference comboThat's just 1 of many reasons to laugh at the idea of leaving the ACC
2/20/2012 1:37:25 PM
I think what is most apparent here is that as TWW's user base ages, this place is turning into Pack Pride version 2.0. Next week there will be someone else out to get NC State I'm sure. Running away is no way to solve a problem. If you think we get shat on as fans now, imagine how our school would be treated if we picked up and ran every time something didn't go our way.[Edited on February 20, 2012 at 1:40 PM. Reason : .]
2/20/2012 1:39:42 PM
Do you think it would be any worse than Texas A&M got shat on for leaving the Big 12? Serious question.
2/20/2012 1:43:06 PM
^^ Not sure if that was directed at me, but I'm a current senior...so not exactly part of the aging TWW base.I just don't see why people would disagree that with the direction things have been going recently that there *could possibly* be a better fit for us in the near future. Or, you know, we could just sit in the ACC for another decade and watch traditions fade in favor of including all the great new markets that Swofford has opened for us.
2/20/2012 1:49:29 PM
looks like TWW has officially become Pack PrideI've always feared this day

Where did I say that the ACC is out to get us? I personally believe the ACC does favor certain teams and couldn't give two shits about half of the conference. There is a difference between not being important to the ACC and the ACC having an agenda against State.

yeah SFN are a bunch of nut jobs. who would seriously take us if we left? our best bet would probably be the Big East if we were lucky. The SEC wouldn't even look at us. Clemson, Vtech and FSU would all be taken way before us. Leaving the ACC would be leaving all of the competition in our home state, except ECU, who we try to always downplay. Leaving the ACC would be total weak sauce unless the SEC saw something in us that I don't.

Fact: Basketball in the ACC consists of Duke, UNC, and everybody else. If Syracuse does consistently well after joining the conference, as VT has done in football, that could eventually become Duke, UNC, Syracuse and everybody else. Our 20 years of mediocrity has doomed us to the status of perennial also-rans in one of the best basketball conferences in the nation.Fact: We can be relevant in football in the ACC with the current coaching staff and players.I don't see how moving is going to improve on that. SEC? We will continue to be perennial also-rans in a lesser basketball conference, which currently consists of Kentucky, Florida and everyone else. I still don't see us jumping into the conference elite against the likes of those two. And football? Come on. We'd go from mid-pack to bottom-rung. Anywhere besides the SEC? Nowhere worth going to.[Edited on February 20, 2012 at 4:22 PM. Reason : d]
