Acura TL? I was looking at accords but for about the same price think the TL is better looking. Need 4 doors with legroom on all seats. Looking for decent gas mileage.

I'd say if you're looking at an 04 TL, get it checked out or warrantiedbut it's probably been taken care of by a service bulletin if it's still on the road these days[Edited on February 19, 2012 at 1:49 PM. Reason : 03-04 honda's had a bad batch of transmissions]

a TL (or any 3.5L v6) will be getting ~22mpg mixed[Edited on February 20, 2012 at 4:16 PM. Reason : ]

^That was the point I was about to make. You're not going to get decent gas mileage with a TL. Mediocre, maybe. If you want Acura styling with decent mileage, perhaps a TSX would be a better choice?
2/20/2012 4:33:47 PM
I was gonna offer up the TSX, but wasn't sure about legroom
2/20/2012 6:29:21 PM
The TSX and the Accord are mechanical near-twins--do they have a different wheelbase? If not, legroom should be very comparable.

not sure, this is the first time I've NOT owned a honda since having my license, for like the past yearand I've never really been a fan of 4 door hondas

http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/2819499953.htmlwantA little backstory here, I bought an 02 accord from CrazyJP when she moved to japan, drove the wheels off it and loved driving it, the transmission failed, it sat for 6 mos in my driveway, I was about to move and had a wedding approaching so I sold it without fixing it. I inherited a 2004 Nissan Frontier, 4 door with the long bed, its like driving a school bus, it takes a pasture to do a u-turn in. My uncle ran it in to a bunch of stuff when he was coming down with Alzheimers....so I don't really like driving it to meet clients. It looks like Whisky dents all in the body. I REALLY MISS THE HONDA, but the TL seems a little more luxurious for about the same price. I have been looking at message boards trying to find out what known issues there are for an 04-05 TL. I have a 2004 Acura TL with a 6 speed manual transmission and I average 29 MPG on every tank of gas. My dad has a 2005 TL with the automatic transmission and he averages 26-27 MPG. I have really enjoyed my TL, but I bought a 525i last week, so it is sitting in my garage collecting dust.

My old roommate had a pair of TLs, and they were nothing but trouble. On top of that, no one is going to look at the Acura and think of luxury. If anything, the Accord will suggest to your clients that you're practical and frugal.

keep in mind the TL takes premium gas while the accord doesn't

speaking of options holy shit porsche charges an arm and a leg on theirs. My friend just got a caymen used CPO for what the base price of a new caymen was. then i researched and with her options it would have been a 75k car new... WHO WOULD PAY THAT for a NON S Caymen??[Edited on March 1, 2012 at 11:01 AM. Reason : .]

Yeah they're insane with that shit. Did you know you can option a Boxster S to over $100k?
3/1/2012 11:43:25 AM
I did not, but back on topic.Acura makes a fine car if you like the dynamics of a front wheel drive.

^ Yup, in fact, the TSX is sold as the Accord in Europe http://www.honda.co.uk/cars/accordsaloon/ Whenever I am in the UK, I am like, damn, the Accords look so fine here. When I get back, the Accords are all ugly. The Accord (US) hasn't looked good for a very long time. In fact, the last good looking US Accord was the 4th generation (current one is 8th gen).http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_AccordVery interesting. In the same vein, the US Civic also hasn't looked good for a while. They always get the better looking ones in Europe/Japan, most of the time: http://www.honda.co.uk/cars/newcivic/BTW, LOL:

The Acura TSX (1st gen) and TL (3rd gen) were the last good looking sedans that Honda has come out with. It's really no wonder that sales of the TL started nosediving with the 4th gen debut.

As a brand I agree...Honda > Nissan.I bet the Maxima is a much better driver's car and probably has more room in the rear seat than a comparable V6 Accord. You may not get the Honda reliability factor, but I do not think it is going to fall to pieces as some garagers might lead you to believe. There are always going to be some tradeoffs.[Edited on March 6, 2012 at 1:57 PM. Reason : s]

My 03 Acura TL gets about 22-24 mixed, 30 highway and a max of 35 when really babying the high way speeds and staying at 65mph.Also the bad transmission issues with the TL's is only limited to the autos. Its mostly noted that the failures seem to happen more often when people use the manual shift in aggressive manners; specially when trying to downshift from 5k+. At least what I remember when I read reports years ago. I donno, I baby my TL and drive it like a normal car; haven't had a problem. I've put about 100k on it thus far and bought it used around 30k.
