I do like the sennheiser hd600, but they're 300ohms and I'd need to use a headphone amp anytime I used them. Any "close seconds" to these that dont require a headphone amp?

Skrillex uses Beats™, therefore Beats™ are the best.

he won grammys and shit... house music through beats headphones will probably make you go crosseyed... i know it did with my old Sure SE535s

^Same. Anything sounds good on my 535s. Although if you want the exaggerated bass you may want to go another route.

Head fi has some good shit. Sometimes you just want a few opinions though. Weeding through all those reviews can be cumbersome.

yeah and also what is the point of having a $100-400 range...break that up[Edited on February 17, 2012 at 10:58 PM. Reason : i asked my wife for a pair for bday coming up so we'll see what she gets]

---([^_^])-------UPDATE-------([^_^])---I ended up going with the Allen & Heath XD-53 for $180.Absolutely amazing. Very clear and crisp, and the bass has turned by brain to grits.I will say that they run a little larger than I expected. I had read reviews about them being a little on the large side, but I'd say I have a large head in general. These fit fine, but I can definitely easily shake them loose if I wanted. If you dont have a large head, these arent for you.[Edited on February 21, 2012 at 4:46 PM. Reason : .]

I bought a pair about a month ago after blowing my old pair of headphones, this time decided to spend a decent amount of coin. wanted to get something that day so I went to best buy and tested out the headphones they had on display. out of the beats, the bose, and the various others they had on display i thought these sounded the best: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Skullcandy+-+Aviator+Headphones+-+Black/Chrome/2137089.p?id=1218311138118&skuId=2137089 so i got them.

I went to Best Buy this past friday and spent about 30 minutes trying out different headphones to see how they compare to my Allen & Heath's. I still think mine sound better than the ones they had on display there.I was particularly impressed with the Bose noise-cancelling headphones they had though. I typically stay far, far away from anything Bose, but those damn things sounded great! And the noise-cancelling....holy shit. I put them on and the world went silent. Very impressed.

Active noise-canceling can cause some problems ESPECIALLY if you are DJing. They have a microphone on the outside and actually create the reverse phase of the waveform outside and mixes it in with what you hear making the outside noise inaudible. This works if you are on a plane or something, but if you are playing the same music outside on a house system as what you are playing on your cans, it will actually cut out some of the music you want to hear, it can cause other problems as well. The Allen and Heath's you got look pretty good, but my favorite headphones are Sony MDR-7506. They're only $100 they're professional quality studio monitoring headphones build and soundwise. I actually prefer them for DJing as opposed to MDR-V700 style headphones. They stay on your head better and they don't overemphasize bass.

Oh, I definitley wasnt saying I thought the Bose headphones were good for DJ'ing. I was just blown away in general at the "noise reduction".
