Hey Marine!
2/9/2012 9:37:18 PM
Oooooooooooooooorah!
2/9/2012 9:38:22 PM
The two pics are not related except that neither should have been taken. The SS pic is unfortunate because no one should ever celebrate or embrace the atrocities committed by the SS. The USMC does not teach or condone this behavior and just demonstrates another area where our education system is lacking.I'd piss on the Taliban too. Especially after I killed them for trying to kill me. Especially after they murdered and still plot to murder 1000s of Americans. Especially after they cut off the head of Danny Pearl, video taped it and showed it to the world. Fuck the Taliban! What good have they ever done? The only thing these Marines did wrong was to take pictures and video of it.

They both kill people in the name of their country. They're both knights in this chess game to conquer the planet.[Edited on February 9, 2012 at 10:00 PM. Reason : .]

I call bullshit that 0 out of 10 people knew what the SS symbol was. I would bet money that they did this on purpose as a political statement.[Edited on February 9, 2012 at 10:05 PM. Reason : .]

i've heard of SS in terms of nazisnever seen that particular symbol thoughalthough i'd be surprised if none of those military folks weren't familiar with it[Edited on February 9, 2012 at 10:09 PM. Reason : .]

2/9/2012 10:22:29 PM
^^Yeah, it should have been taught in school. What the hell do they teach anymore?
2/9/2012 10:26:11 PM
Let's start with: Everyone can't learn everything.Let's end with: The probability of 10 marines who have an interest in everything military, at least one of them should know what the SS symbol looks like.
2/9/2012 10:27:30 PM
Let's do something large.Let's do something like...."There's a 1 out of 1x10^10 chance."That means there's a one in ten billion chance of aliens existing. Is that not rare enough for you? Okay. Let's do 1 out of 1x10^15. That's a one in one quadrillion chance.Based on observations from the Hubble Space Telescope, there are at least 125 billion galaxies in the universe. It is estimated that at least ten percent of all sun-like stars have a system of planets, there are 6.25×10^18 stars with planets orbiting them in the universe. If even a billionth of these stars have planets supporting life, there are some 6.25×10^9 (billion) life-supporting planetary systems in the universe.6,250,000,000.Now, what are the odds that NONE of these have any life on them?
2/9/2012 10:29:11 PM
2/9/2012 10:33:27 PM
No, cant learn everything and that is no excuse for not knowing this. WWII history is extremely important and had a major impact on the entire planet. What happened then still directly impacts what happens today. Those that know history are doomed to repeat it. Learn from others mistakes.

I don't even see how you can form an opinion in regards to these idiots and their guidon. If you recognize the symbolism then you should inherently know that they are stupid. If you don't recognize the symbolism you can still tell that they are stupid because of the boonie caps. Yes, boonie caps are stupid, so are baseball caps with the flags on the front and anything else people wear to pretend to look like Special Forces.
2/9/2012 10:44:53 PM
You can write people off as stupid if you'd like, but this was a pretty powerful statement...........................................if you're smart enough to understand it.
2/9/2012 10:47:45 PM
What I understand is, that these hollywood mother fuckers probably went to some shitty sew shop and had these SS runes put on a guidon because Joe Snuffy thought "hey, that looks badass"

Gotta disagree on the boonie cap. They are great because they keep the sun off your face and neck and its easy to stuff in a pocket when you are not outside.

Before my long spiel, I should mention that the part on your work after you started using u' and du' is wrong: The antiderivative of e^f(E), where f(E) is some arbitrary function of E, is not generally (1/f'(E))e^f(E), even though it is true that the antiderivative of f'(E)e^f(E) is e^f(E).First consider the transformation E=x^2/2.29; then the limits remain the same, 1.036E=(518/1145)x^2, sinh(sqrt(2.29E))=sinh(x), and 0.453E dE=(453/1145)x^2 dx.Then the integral becomes the integral from 0 to +infinity of (453/1145)x^2*e^(-(518/1145)x^2)*sinh(x) dx.--------Begin Failed Solution Attempt--------Then in integration by parts, let u=sinh(x) and dv=(453/1145)x^2*e^(-(518/1145)x^2) dx.Then du=cosh(x), and to find v, do another integration by parts, letting U=x and dV=(453/1145)x*e^(-(518/1145)x^2) dx.Then dU=dx and V=-(453/1036)e^(-(518/1145)x^2).Therefore, v=-(453/1036)x*e^(-(518/1145)x^2)+(453/1036)Int(e^(-(518/1145)t^2) dt,0,x).Then our original integral is lim(uv,x->+inf)-(uv)(0)-Int(v du,0,+inf), so keeping in mind that u=(1/2)e^x-(1/2)e^-x......hmm, I see a problem, it looks like one of the terms will go off to infinity!Notice that one term will be sinh(x)*(453/1036)Int(e^(-(518/1145)t^2) dt,0,x), in the limit as x->+inf; by the relationship at the top, the right factor becomes a finite positive number, but the left factor becomes infinite. This must mean that I have a problem with my method, because as you can imagine, sinh(k*sqrt(E)) for constant k grows asymptotically as quickly as e^sqrt(E), which is more slowly than e^(-1.036E) reaches 0; then their product reaches 0 as quickly as e^-E, which is faster than E grows, in fact so quickly that the whole integrand also reaches 0 in exponential time, so the integral should be finite.--------End Failed Solution Attempt--------Let's go back to the step where u=sinh(x) and dv=(453/1145)x^2*e^(-(518/1145)x^2) dx; instead let's try u=x*sinh(x) and dv=(453/1145)x*e^(-(518/1145)x^2) dx.Then du=sinh(x)+x*cosh(x) dx and v=-(453/1036)e^(-(518/1145)x^2).Then the antiderivative is -(453/1036)x*sinh(x)e^(-(518/1145)x^2)+(453/1036)int(sinh(t)e^(-(518/1145)t^2)+t*cosh(t)e^(-(518/1145)t^2),0,x).Now for the first term in that "int"-egral...letting U=e^(-(518/1145)t^2) and dV=sinh(t) dt, dU=-(1036/1145)t*e^(-(518/1145)t^2) dt and V=cosh(t), so the antiderivative becomes cosh(x)e^(-(518/1145)x^2)+(1036/1145)int(t*cosh(t)e^(-(518/1145)t^2) dt,0,x).Now for the second term in that same "int"-egral...letting w=cosh(t) and dz=t*e^(-(518/1145)t^2) dt, dw=sinh(t) dt and z=-(1145/1036)e^(-(518/1145)t^2), so the antiderivative becomes -(1145/1036)cosh(x)e^(-(518/1145)x^2)+(1145/1036)int(sinh(t)e^(-(518/1145)t^2) dt,0,x).If we denote 1036/1145 by k, then the second sentence means "so the antiderivative becomes -(1/k)cosh(x)e^(-(k/2)t^2)+(1/k)int(sinh(t)e^(-(k/2)t^2) dt,0,x)" and the first sentence means "so the antiderivative becomes cosh(x)e^(-(k/2)x^2)+k*int(t*cosh(t)e^(-(k/2)t^2) dt,0,x)" (to make it all cleaner). Now there is one more integration by parts to do; if W=cosh(t) and dZ=t*e^(-(k/2)t^2) dt, then dW=sinh(t) dt and Z=-(1/k)e^(-(k/2)t^2), so that integral becomes -(1/k)cosh(x)e^(-(k/2)x^2)+(1/k)int(sinh(t)e^(-(k/2)t^2) dt,0,x).Substituting back, some terms cancel out in "the first sentence" to yield just the innermost integral, int(sinh(t)e^(-(k/2)t^2) dt,0,x); then adding that to "the second sentence" yields the entire expression in that "int"-egral that I referred to earlier: -(1/k)cosh(x)e^(-(k/2)t^2)+(1+1/k)int(sinh(t)e^(-(k/2)t^2) dt,0,x).Now wrapping up all the integrations by parts and back-substitutions so far, the antiderivative is-(453/1036)x*sinh(x)e^(-(k/2)x^2)-(1/k)cosh(x)e^(-(k/2)t^2)+(1+1/k)int(sinh(t)e^(-(k/2)t^2) dt,0,x); this last unresolved integral does not appear amenable to integration by parts, and I don't quite know how to attack it, but when you evaluate the limit as x->+inf, that becomes finite. As for the two terms outside the integral, a similar asymptotic analysis shows that they go to 0 as x approaches 0 or +inf, so really what you're left with is (1+1/k)int(sinh(x)e^(-(k/2)x^2) dx,0,+inf), whatever that is.

its not like they were using the deaths head SS emblem
2/9/2012 10:57:25 PM
Marine Recon actually does use a modified Totenkopf, but to be fair, it predates the third reich by hundreds of years.
2/9/2012 11:00:37 PM
Yeah, that makes it completely ok then.
2/9/2012 11:02:09 PM
OH MY GOD GUYSLevel E1M4 in Doom has a room that looks like a swastika on the level map!!! What does this mean?]
2/9/2012 11:02:35 PM
well lots of units have a skull or deaths head in their emblems, but i kinda meant using the death head along with the stylized SS
2/9/2012 11:05:06 PM
So this is fascist?
2/9/2012 11:05:54 PM
Well, they didn't use it and no one would have issues with it. Deaths Heads are common in all militaries. It is not relevant to this topic
2/9/2012 11:07:29 PM
^^ What is the context?
2/9/2012 11:09:16 PM
Oh no guys. The nazis used an eagle with their symbol...And so do the Marines!
2/9/2012 11:09:48 PM
once again common to all militaries.
