i have a 2000 zuma cw 50cc and want to know how derestrict it...im striking out in my hour or two of searching. at first i thought i'd found out how, by removing a washer from behind the variator...but was reading cautionary tales in forums that said this would shred the belt.then i thought maybe there was simply a wire underneath the seat, or a ring in the pipes.anybody got a suggestion?

Usually hopping up a drunkmobile involves a bigger piston and cylinder(technically illegal), a nice scavenging exhaust pipe and rejetting the carb. These guys can tell you more:http://www.zumaforums.net/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=3Cheap parts and Dancing Tacos:https://www.treatland.tv/yamaha-chappy-noped-parts-s/75.htm^Soooo much acid involved in that website, but you can trust them. They sort their mechanical parts by color. Many items in their catalog are listed "i dont know what this is. do you? Give me $10 and I will give it to you."[Edited on February 6, 2012 at 8:36 PM. I'd check urbanscootin.com. They'll have the answer(s).

30mph is indeed the limit here. I see a good bit of chatter about changing the reed valve on these zumas, which would be as good a place as any to stick a restrictor plate.

in no way am i looking to spend any money on parts in order to achieve a few MPH. just want to know what to do to free up any restrictions.

the newer honda mets have (had?) a restrictor plate that was stupid easy to remove...i wouldn't be surprised if the zuma has something similar, but that's a 12-year old scooter, so maybe not (it seems to be on newer scoots in my limited experience)

I had 2 skoots. I tuned one to go 70mph. It had a 70cc kit and built bottom end. Lol. I pissed off so many cars

^ that happens all the time to me...they see scooter and they all get in the other lane to pass me...and then i take off and (usually) leave them sitting there when the light turns green

^ big bore 2-stroke...or buy a 4-stroke like mine (though it's more like 65mph)

what's a good scoot to start with? anyone do turbo scoots ?lol

to start with? there are any number of 50cc chinese scoots on CL for ~$800 or less...they won't last forever like a name-brand scoot might, but it's a place to starti had a friend who ordered one online and had it shipped to his house for about $900...worked well enough for him and if you're careful with it (regular oil changes, etc), it should last at least 5k miles or soyou'll get bored with a 50cc 4-stroke, though...the 2-strokes, at least, are faster[Edited on February 9, 2012 at 8:39 AM.
