Sell it? Fuck if I know how to do that. Patton Oswald made the point tonight that the first thing you see in the intro to every episode is a dog's ass (or arse since they're brits). Sold?

BigT, Agreed. But they are humanizing both characters more this season.I did like that Thomas got a dig at his lordship this episode though. "I don't work for Mr. Carson, anymore."

oh my god! When Matthew walked into the concert as Mary was singing I just bursted into tears!!!!!

*SPOILERS*On last week's episode:I am usually a fan of Cora, but ever since they started turning Downton into a recovery facility she has become less sympathetic. I mean, it is war time and they're whining because they only have half the study to eat breakfast in? That half of a room looks as big as my entire apartment. So I really felt sorry for Isobel when Cora was giving her politely-bitchy routine. Basically telling her she wasn't needed in running the home (despite the fact Isobel has been trained as a nurse). Then I just got pissed off later when she finds out her servants are running a soup kitchen and swoops in and takes the whole thing over and giving orders. So now she knows how to run a kitchen TOO?? Apparently being a lord's wife means you're prepared for anything.

Also (no spoilers)...Does any one else think it is odd that NO ONE has voiced a coherent, political argument against the War? I mean, Branson has said he opposes the war, but the only reason he offered was that he didn't want to die. That's fine, but he seems willing to give his life in the fight for Irish Independence. So there must be something different He came off like a physical coward instead of a courageous pacifist. Is that on purpose?I've been thinking about this ever since I learned that Julian Fellowes (creator and head writer of the show) has a peerage and holds a Conservative seat in the House of Lords. I wonder if he is letting his political/class sympathies leak into the show.

Pretty sad episode.William is dead. Mathew is paralyzed. But hearing the Duchess try to work a telephone was hilarious.

keep watching the season gets better It is Cora's house and Isobel was definitely stepping on the lady of the house's toes.I thought it was high time Cora found her backbone.
2/1/2012 11:38:20 PM
^ If it were not for Isobel, would Cora have allowed Downton to be turned into a recovery home? I doubt it. Her "finding her backbone" basically amounted to her pulling social rank and "taking back over the house" once contributing to the war effort made her lifestyle too uncomfortable. Not exactly virtues I admire in a person. But that's just my opinion. [Edited on February 7, 2012 at 1:47 AM. Reason : ``]

*Spoilers*Wow, in this weeks episode cousin Phillip comes back from the dead (sorta, maybe). After the Titanic sank, he got amnesia and lived in Canada for 6 years before joining the army and recovering his memories after getting caught in an explosion. Sounds just a littttlllleeee soapy (it would have been better if he was Phillip's evil twin separated at birth), but I don't mind much. The big deal of the episode imo came at the end. Mr Bates' wife is dead. She was found the day after Mr. Bates returned from London with a bruise on his face. I seriously doubt he killed her, though. I mean, this guy refused to sully Anna's honor by letting her be his mistress. Now he skipping "though shalt not commit adultery" and going straight to murder? I doubt it. But it will be cool to see what actually happens.

I've never seen this showBut the SNL sketch about Spike TV picking up Downtown Abbey was one of the few funny sketches on the show.

^^ So glad you mentioned it wasn't the finale. Christmas special is on now. Recording to watch tomorrow. Looks to be awesome. I am really hoping that Mr. Bates beats this murder rap. I just don't see him as a murder. But, if you push him, who knows.

Just watched the finale and was pretty pleased with the whole thing (except for what happened to Mr. Bates). [Edited on February 20, 2012 at 11:42 PM. Reason : ``]
