hard body auto ka24e no overdrive. I believe the transmission code is: RL4R01A. the light goes on when selected. sometimes it works. sometimes it doesn't. It has started not to work more often than not now.

From my research I am seeing that the transmission has 2 relays for overdrive. One to tell it to lock up and one to tell it to unlock.

Weird that they come looking like that and not like a regular Nissan Relays but I have never owned an automatic.

I'm trying to fix this for my good friend friend. the mechanic said the truck is not pulling vacuum and it will be 1200 to fix or 1600 to rebuild. I take it as BS as my reading shows that it could be the throttle cable hookup to the trans being loose or one of these relays

He's coming down this weekend from Virginia with the truck taking side roads and I want to try and be able to help him. I have not had a chance to look at the truck yet. The transmission shifts fine otherwise. Worst case I'll swap in a new transmission. But I think it's electrical.

Does anyone know the location of these relays? Anyway to hardwire these relays to test them?

Any help is appreciated thank you

check this document out... http://www.240edge.com/manuals/89-90_240sx/auto_tra.pdf

if you check page 120 that might be the wiring diagram for it. If it's the RL4R01A I don't think it has an automatic transmission control unit. I'm not entirely sure what that part is you linked to on ebay but they look like an internal solenoid set inside the valve body for an electronically controlled transmission.

Here's the deal. On a non electronically controlled transmission you normally have an overdrive and a lockup solenoid externally mounted inside the engine bay or somewhere else. All the other stuff is mechanical for the most part. On an electronically controlled transmission you usually have a bunch of solenoids actually inside the valve body of the A/T which requires removal of the pan to access. They look and act more like fuel injectors rather than looking like boxy relay thingies.
