this is very entertaining
12/29/2011 12:20:05 PM
I'm going to post this in the right forum. JK
12/29/2011 12:29:21 PM
Interesting entertainment.
12/29/2011 12:30:35 PM
12/29/2011 1:10:19 PM
Well, the original NSX didnt exactly beat speed records. I remember thinking it was quite slow compared to cars that cost half as much.
12/29/2011 1:20:21 PM
^ yeah it was never really anything that special in the speed department, would still be a fun to drive though
12/29/2011 1:29:12 PM
i thought the orignal (1990) was pretty stout for it's time. the problem is the improvements they made were incremental at best.also, i am entertained.
12/29/2011 1:31:00 PM
^it was.
12/29/2011 1:36:17 PM
3 things:1.) For the amount of money they're going to charge for that thing it better hit 60 in less than 4 seconds.2) Signs that they don't care about making a serious sports car: a convertible version will be offered, and it will be hybrid (i.e. heavy)3) When's the last time Honda/Acura impressed anyone with anything? (my guess is late 1999)
12/29/2011 1:39:46 PM
so is this a video game or something
12/29/2011 1:53:03 PM
hey, i too am moderately interested in a seemingly boring supercar.
12/29/2011 2:04:44 PM
even as a Honda fan and previously owning an NSX, I'd buy something else
12/29/2011 2:43:49 PM
looks like a damn audi.
12/29/2011 2:50:42 PM
I'd like that, and I'd even like if they made the hybrid or convertible version. Though I'd want the coupe.

^its situations like these where I am happy to dig into my extensive automobile magazine archives. Pulling out the September 1990 issue of Car and Driver I find a supercar comparison of the Acura NSX, Corvette ZR1, Ferrari 348ts, Lotus Esprit Turbo SE and 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet. Of note, they intended to test the 911 Carrera 4 coupe but the transport it was arriving on crashed, oopps!Price as tested:NSX - $58,300ZR1 - $59,750348ts - $103,400Esprit Turbo - $83,095911 C4 Cab - $80,2570-60:NSX - 5.2ZR1 - 4.9348ts - 6.0Esprit Turbo - 4.8911 C4 Cab - 5.3Finishing order was (first to last): NSX, 911 C4, ZR1, 348ts, Esprit TurboMan I love keeping these old magazines around, lol.The Road Test digest in the back indicates that the 300ZX was tested in the February 1990 issue. Price as tested: $35,1750-60: 5.9s[Edited on December 29, 2011 at 4:20 PM. Reason : old magazines rule][Edited on December 29, 2011 at 4:22 PM. Reason : k]
12/29/2011 4:17:21 PM
Actually, I stand corrected. The 300ZX was tested at 5.9 seconds with apparently the slowest driver in the world. But it is funny I remember the 5.1 second number. My memory is really failing me.I do know the GTZ was testing below 5 seconds, but I dont know the price of that.[Edited on December 29, 2011 at 4:39 PM. Reason : .]
12/29/2011 4:33:48 PM
12/29/2011 5:41:33 PM
Weren't the later ones more like 90k?
12/29/2011 6:02:18 PM
^yes they were. ^^im just stating a fact. Designing a chassis to also accommodate an open cockpit adds weight, no way around it. In this case that has little to do with my interest level, as the hybrid factor is the gorilla in the room.
12/29/2011 6:34:37 PM
I'd just like to come back into this thread and point out to CarZin that NMSJ
12/29/2011 7:08:15 PM
what's amazing about the 1st-gen NSX is not only is it amazing to drive but it'll make the worst driver look good.
12/29/2011 8:47:01 PM
12/30/2011 1:30:29 AM
chance... he's just stating he wouldn't buy it. some of us do actually go to track days and attempt to use our cars at their full potential. I still wouldn't buy anything that's a hybrid unless it uses flywheel technology personally because batteries still suck.I'm not going to lie, my ideal sports car would be a road going audi r18... could you imagine a light-weight semi-high revving diesel sports car? it would get 30+ mpg around town 50+ highway and still go like a bat outta hell and not have all the potential electrical demons of a hybrid.that's my 2 cents.[Edited on December 30, 2011 at 8:31 AM. 12/30/2011 8:28:41 AM
pat, i'm willing to bet you'd have a different opinion on the nsx if you were to drive it.l[Edited on December 30, 2011 at 8:40 AM. Reason : -]
12/30/2011 8:40:41 AM
The freakin concept looks like an Audi r8. New styling plz. thanks.
12/30/2011 8:50:27 AM
yeah that's what made me rant on r18 lol
12/30/2011 9:04:09 AM
im sure it will be much better than everyone expects..
12/30/2011 11:13:07 AM
Time for Mitsu and Mazda to revive their supercars.Oh, and time for Toyota to make a Supra as well.
12/30/2011 1:59:29 PM
toyota is supposedly making a supra. mazda just axed the rotary, i don't expect to see them having too much zoom zoom any time soon.and IIRC mitsu is making hyundai engines and focusing their company on EVs. [Edited on December 30, 2011 at 2:03 PM. Reason : .]
12/30/2011 2:02:33 PM
remember that the yen strengthened throughout the early to mid 90s so all the Japanese made sports cars significantly increased in price
12/30/2011 6:15:40 PM
12/30/2011 7:29:53 PM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyundai_Theta_enginethey use their own EMS and sensor array but its def a mitsu motor.
12/31/2011 12:19:22 PM
I never knew I'd start such a controversial thread about hyundai engines
12/31/2011 12:30:53 PM
that's what you get for making a thread about a boring car.
12/31/2011 12:42:08 PM
Hyundai, Chrysler, and Mitsubishi are part of the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance. It is in some ways a successor to Diamond Star Motors, an alliance between Chrysler and Mitsubishi which brought us the Eclipse/Talon/Laser.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Engine_Manufacturing_Alliancethose three companies have been working together for decades. Mitsu and Chrysler have been supplying each other with stuff since the 1970s, and Hyundai has licensed technology from Mitsubishi in the past.

Revealed... looks ok, but I prefer the body shape/proportions (front-engined) of this one from 3.5 years ago that we never got a good look at. Now that it doesn't matter, why don't you show it to us, Honda? message_topic.aspx?topic=530250 (all pics dead)pics: http://www.autoblog.com/photos/spy-shots-acura-nsx/full/#photo-867798video: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/20/video-2010-acura-nsx-the-ring-enough-said*************************************************************Here is the new concept:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzaynkoC04k

the bulbousness makes it look less exotic than the original :/
1/9/2012 8:48:53 PM
So an Audi R8 clone (from the front at least). Pathetic. And my God, those rear exhaust outlets are tacky as shit.
1/9/2012 10:25:46 PM
i read it's supposed to be priced around $150k.That's ridiculous for a "less than 5 seconds 0-60 time." It had better be less than 4, for that amount.
1/10/2012 12:07:29 AM
That seems pretty par for the course for the NSX in general though, pay more for less for some reason.
1/10/2012 2:11:39 AM
I am sure it will be in the mid to high 3s. That's just how some companies press releases (or rumors) go "less than 5"... yeah, 2.5 seconds is also less than 5.The GT-R does it in the high 2s now... so "less than 5" won't cut it, in a manner of saying.[Edited on January 10, 2012 at 4:37 AM. It won't beat the gtr at anything but daily drivability and even that will only be mpg.
1/10/2012 7:02:44 AM
^agreed. Oh, and looks.
1/10/2012 9:21:40 AM
ew, no.and look at the new LexusReally?
1/10/2012 10:17:25 AM
goatse grill.
1/10/2012 10:43:00 AM
it looks like it's made by Norelco
1/10/2012 11:00:11 AM
bahhahaha... their next one will have three round disks on it with cooling fans behind them... GO SHAVER INSPIRATION!
1/10/2012 11:34:24 AM
From direct side view, the new NSX looks almost identical to a Mitsubishi Ecllpse.
