a CRT monitor attached to a WinXP tower seems to randomly degauss itself, it will also go black for a couple seconds, and then come back on. I've tried changing resolution and refresh rates but it doesn't seem to be a fix, and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when it degausses.

monitor is attached via DVI to a DVI/VGA dual out video card

is this likely just a monitor failure of an old CRT, or could it be related to graphics hardware or settings? I don't think its anything due to any kind of magnetic interference, as no new hardware has been installed in the area...when its not degaussing the picture is perfect

I've had this happen with multiple old CRTs. This is like asking why a 100 year old person keeps pooping themselves. It just kinda happens.

Who uses a CRT anymore anyway. Throw it away and get a real monitor.
