12/14/2011 10:59:34 AM

12/14/2011 11:01:25 AM
agreed on all accounts

I really hate small talk, I need to learn to do it though. My manager said so at our last review.
12/14/2011 11:14:43 AM
gotta hate it when people feel they have to tell you how their kids are doing when you ask "whats the weather?"
12/14/2011 11:17:34 AM
I really hate the bs social events our department has. My interpretation is that they are optional. But I am told I should do it for good "citizenship", yet all that happens is that I sit in a corner talking to 4 people that I know eating cake. I have talked to people I don't know, but then we quickly run out of stuff to chit chat about and then I wonder "why should I go to these things?". Some people in the department love this stuff, they help plan and go to all of them ... good on them, but whhhhhy do I have to go? I go to ones that I feel are actually important for my academic career, and I will gladly slap on a smile and talk about research .... butt I dooooon't care what everyone is doing for their vacation and what their kids made them when we never talk any other time in the year... blah blah blah

I have become much more extroverted the last 2 years due to one of my jobs, and having to take a more public role.[Edited on December 14, 2011 at 11:23 AM. Reason : ]
12/14/2011 11:23:03 AM

Truths about Introverts- Require the rest of the world to interact with them on their terms. - Completely inflexible on social behavior- Extremely irritable when the world does not conform to their requirements
12/14/2011 12:11:34 PM
I fit a lot of these myths. This is just over-explaining character flaws."You're weird!""I'm in a individual"
12/14/2011 12:15:28 PM
^^got a problem with it? lol
12/14/2011 12:26:57 PM
one thing that really hit home for me is the thing about loud noises or too much commotion. whenever i'm at a bar and the music is too loud to hear others cleary, i totally shut down and go into my own little world...i'd rather just not talk than struggle to have a conversation.
12/14/2011 1:13:35 PM
someone's been spying on me

Additional Truths about Introverts:-Get extremely bitter when things don't work out their way while putting zero effort into it and complain to everyone how unfair life is.
12/14/2011 1:23:37 PM
^ you are thinking of hipsters
12/14/2011 1:25:08 PM
As an unclinically diagnosed introvert I appreciate this threadWe need to make bumper stickers for "Introvert Awareness"
12/14/2011 1:50:26 PM
^ Why would introversion be clinically diagnosed? It's not a disability.
12/14/2011 1:51:02 PM
I agree with most of that, but I think people let introversion become an excuse."Ehh, I don't want to go out...that's just not my personality.""I don't talk to random people and get to know them...that's just not my personality."If you identify as an "introvert", it's pretty easy to let that prevent you from going out of your comfort zone. Going outside of your comfort zone is key to personal growth, though. If you can recognize that you have a natural inclination to keep to yourself (as I have), there are rewards for deliberately working against that tendency.

^^yeah I know[Edited on December 14, 2011 at 2:05 PM. Reason : I just really want an introvert bumper sticker]
12/14/2011 2:05:07 PM
it has actually helped me relax a bit more, knowing that other people are uneasy. I used to have a lot of social anxiety
12/14/2011 2:15:51 PM
yeah, you just realize that things aren't as big a deal as you think and just go with the flow - I wish I could impart this on some of my friends somehow
12/14/2011 2:18:34 PM
One of my worst tendencies is to over analyze tiny details, like if I'm giving a presentation or a speech and slip on a word, I think its a huge deal and everyone thinks less of me, when in reality hardly anyone probably even noticed. Also with girls.
12/14/2011 2:19:58 PM
^adorable.
12/14/2011 2:21:29 PM
it took me a long time. It comes from having a moment of clarity and suddenly it clicks, granted you still have the anxieties, but you learn to push them aside so that you can have a life. sometimes going to a counselor helps
12/14/2011 2:22:13 PM
simonn, looks like you are a sonofabitch who is, what, embarrassed by your extroversion, and can't be in the cool introverts club?tell you what, why don't you take all of your extra versions and go with your extra virginness and go SOMEWHERE else, like, where people want to hear about you.say...ANOTHER THREAD.how's that for introversion?!
12/14/2011 3:07:17 PM
^ so you're saying he struck a nerve?
12/14/2011 3:09:16 PM

12/14/2011 3:10:43 PM

12/14/2011 3:23:31 PM
lol. well I do not know you kdogg, but I am glad you survived the surgery, hope your recovery goes well.
12/14/2011 3:24:22 PM
I'm pretty good at small talk, but because I feel that politics, religion, and the weather should never be discussed with acquaintances I get way too personal after the first few exchanges unless they want to talk about sports.
12/14/2011 4:59:55 PM
So yeah that pretty much described me perfectly. I guess this makes me an introvert.
12/14/2011 5:04:20 PM
extroverts are usually douchebags
12/14/2011 5:20:37 PM

12/14/2011 5:38:29 PM
