So I have a bow that I hunted with in high school. I haven't done anything at all with it in at least 10 years. I found it recently in my moms attic and would like to shoot it just for fun. Is it safe for me to shoot or should I take it to the local gun shop and have it checked out? It has been strung the whole time it was stored. I don't wanna try to shoot it and end up injured lol

compound bows were designed to be left strung, IIRC (i don't use them, i shoot a recurve)

however, 10 years is a pretty long time for a string...it's probably stretched and you should replace it for safety's sake

also, at 10 years in an attic (temperature controlled or not?), it could stand be checked out by a pro...if nothing else, the axles should be cleaned/lubed and the cams could be checked out

if you just want to shoot for fun take it to somewhere like Gander Mountain and have it restrung. If you want to have it seriously tuned it take it to a local shop. but a decade is a long time for it to sit, not matter how good the conditions may have been.

the guys out in selma do GREAT work for a really good price. i dont know where you are located but I would recommend them and there are some new guys i think in north raleigh that I have heard do good work as well.

If you arent careful the string will pop and you'll loose the peep sight and everything else thats attached for the bow. Hopefully you still have the sticker with draw length and all on it.

I was doing some construction work on Centennial Campus and found a compound bow leaned up against a tree. I think a student that was poaching left it out there. I am afraid to shoot it.

I also found his stand, a bag of calls, and a couple of arrows.

Yeah thats def. illegal since its within city limits and they havent passed the urban hunter law yet.

Springhill in Kenly but its closer to Selma if I remember right.

The owner is a GREAT guy and will get you set up right. Plus they have cute chicks that work the register.

i went in springhill one time and the guys i spoke with didn't seem that knowledgeable and the prices were high. ymmv

The clothing prices and all are high but they are cheap on bow stuff as thats what they really specialize in.

I agree that they are pricey on other stuff but for bow service they are tough to beat.
