Old thread is dead, long live the new thread. How sad is it that this is coming out in mere weeks and there's basically no press .That said I hate Wiimote flailing for LoZ.
10/31/2011 12:59:43 PM
I really really wish i still had my Wii for this, and almost consider picking up one on the cheap just to play it. I think that the lack of press is that it's on the least popular platform (Wii) and being overshadowed by titanic releases such as mw3 and skyrim.
10/31/2011 1:03:31 PM
that and the fact that Nintendo has all but given up on the Wii and shifted gears to their next gen console.
10/31/2011 1:54:15 PM
I've actually seen a lot of information about it recently...http://www.zeldainformer.com is a great site...it is updated many times a day with new info... i've read so many spoilers i feel like i already know the whole game
10/31/2011 3:34:38 PM
so you've seen lots of information on the new Zelda game on a Zelda gaming website. that makes sense.]
10/31/2011 3:36:36 PM
i didn't know what you meant by it. i think the diehard fans are enough to carry the way... when i preordered mine, the guy at gamestop said the number of preorders matched mw3 and bf3, and was more than skyrim and uncharted
10/31/2011 3:41:47 PM
I wish they wouldn't make this for the Wii. Just delay that shit and put it on the Wii U.
10/31/2011 8:51:04 PM
traded in some games today at gamestop and inquired about the number of preorders for this. The guy said this game (at least his location) was by far the most preordered Wii game ever. He said it was also rivaling some of the xbox/ps3 titles... i'm getting excited about it. ]
11/6/2011 7:27:19 PM
Stumbled across the first reviews... gamesTM gave it a 9, Nintendo Mag UK 98/100 and Game Informer and Edge both gave it 10/10
11/7/2011 2:20:59 AM
Yeah, reviews have been great. I know that when the time comes, even if I haven't beat Skyrim or even with the release of Batman on the PC, I will drop everything and finish Zelda. I have so many games I've never finished, but never a Zelda on a console. I play through that shit multiple times.
11/7/2011 9:55:05 AM
new commercial...pretty coolhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IDF_raOuEo
11/7/2011 3:38:15 PM
kind of reminds me of majora's mask, a very late blessing on the n64. so far all of the 2nd zelda games on each system have been very good if not better than the first (including adventure of link). im really looking forward to this game and the soundtrack you can get with it.
11/8/2011 2:18:43 PM
this game just looks so dated. release it on gamecube and i might dig out that purple box for this occasion.
11/8/2011 2:24:56 PM
just preordered this
11/9/2011 6:57:17 AM
11/10/2011 7:06:41 PM
Just went and predordered the bundle for my girlfriend's birthday (two days after release). She's a Zelda fanatic.
11/10/2011 7:47:17 PM
http://au.wii.ign.com/articles/121/1212220p1.htmlit got a 10/10 on ign and is quoted to be the greatest zelda game of all time, beating out OoT.
11/11/2011 12:44:13 PM
I've heard from multiple reviews that this is the best Zelda game ever made and that it does in fact outdo Link the Past and Ocarina of Time. It is very rare to see a perfect 10 from IGN.
11/11/2011 10:08:54 PM
yeah i'm getting more and more excited about it.

From what I've been reading it seems like it's everything I've wanted in a Zelda game for years. The combat is said to be much more strategic and involved this time around and the items you get are useful the entire playthrough. The bosses and temples are supposedly some of the most intricate and difficult in the series. I'm also reading how this game has taken pages from Metroid when it comes to the exploration. The storyline and music are consistently said to be the strongest points of the game, and all of these points are coming from the reviews that didn't give it a perfect score in addition to the ones that did. Ever since TP came out I had been getting so sick of the repetitive "mash A" combat, the overly easy three-hits-and-dead bosses, the unrewarding exploration, and items that were only useful in the dungeon you got them. TP was a HUGE letdown for me because of these things (although it was still a pretty fun game). I'm glad they've supposedly ironed out these wrinkles at last. I feel like this might be the game I've been waiting for for years, although for fuck's sake I really shouldn't say or think shit like this because I'm trying not to hype it up too much for myself. It just sounds so fucking good. They've spent a LOT of time on this game; it's been 5 years since TP came out, and the only other time they took this long was when OOT came out ('93 to '98). The difference is that this time the developers didn't have a third dimension to get used to as well as new hardware. The tools they needed to make this game were there to begin with backed with 5 years of Wii experience, so I think it's a pretty safe bet to assume this game will be good.Very, VERY excited for this./nerd rant
11/12/2011 1:12:25 AM
I can say I was very excited to see that it has MotionPlus support.
11/12/2011 1:23:19 AM
I loved TP but agree that it felt very rushed... i agree with everything said in the post above. i read the same things about the metroid style exploration. they said (IGN) there was some backtracking to familiar areas but it was never repetitive because you could do new things in the areas each time.. they also said that just about every item was used in every area of the gameI like how the "overworld" will be full of puzzles and "dungeon-style" elements now... Before, the overworld was mainly just a place to connect the dungeons, not anymore according to IGN.and from everything i've read, they finally have the motion control the way it should have been on the wii. it just stinks that it took them this long and it is the last big hoorah for the wii.hopefully it will carry over to the wii u
11/12/2011 9:21:44 AM
Girlfriend got me a preorder for the special version (music CD + gold controller) for my birthday
11/15/2011 10:04:06 AM
wow anti wii/motion control game informer gave this a perfect score, that def makes me think game informer is bullshitting pretty bad with their review, ign seemed the most informative by saying the pros of the game are basically a much more alive in between world ala metroid, 1:1 motion controls, many new ideas in dungeon puzzles (ala no more torches and block pushing), and the sky world which I still don't know too much about
11/16/2011 8:26:12 PM
it's a pretty glowing review from IGN. Maybe a friend will let me borrow their Wii so I can have a play through at some point.for some reason the embed is not showing]

Things I heard that stood out:40-50 hour storyand the big statement that actually makes the previous statement mean somethingdungeons not preceded by 15 minutes of meandering through nondescript countryside40-50 hours is good as long as it's not eaten up in pointless travel that serves as nothing more than filler to pad out the game length (wind waker). Then again the video said that the area leading up to the dungeons implemented some dungeon-like navigation as opposed to simply walking through large areas of nothing, so I suppose the areas could be smaller but they could still pad game length via several 30 minutes to go one direction fetch quests.Edit: So they gave Link the flud thing from Mario Sunshine... I hope that doesn't factor heavily into the game. [Edited on November 17, 2011 at 1:20 PM. Reason : -]
11/17/2011 1:16:12 PM
whoops I meant to say gamestop is the one bullshitting, not game informer, gamestop actually gave the game a 7.5also yeah I've heard the game is fairly linear but at the same time it's incredibly big too
11/17/2011 3:26:54 PM
so uh anyone else counting down to midnight?reviews for this have been pretty fucking incredible
11/19/2011 6:46:45 PM
midnight? where are you getting it?gamestop told me they were not doing a midnight release[Edited on November 19, 2011 at 8:14 PM. Reason : ya]
11/19/2011 8:14:15 PM
^ I just called GameStop, and they are NOT doing a midnight release. FUCK!
11/19/2011 9:09:42 PM
yeah, something about they need at least 100 preorders AND it has to be manager's decision. The one near me (fuquay) said they have over 100 preorders, but the manager decided not to do a midnight release since it was saturday/sunday
11/19/2011 9:39:17 PM
^^Surprised to hear that, as big as this game is. Didn't they do a midnight release for Brawl? Comparable audiences.[Edited on November 19, 2011 at 9:44 PM. Reason : f]
11/19/2011 9:44:45 PM
Based on what the guy at Gamestop was saying, it has something to do with the game coming out on Sunday as opposed to Tuesday like they usually do
11/20/2011 3:31:07 AM
if you want a real review, go to gametrailers.com and listen to the words, not the numbers. nintendo buys reviews
11/20/2011 9:53:05 AM
IGN has been slobbing some knob lately. That said, I will be playing this game next.
11/20/2011 2:15:25 PM
Just put in the prerequisite 2 hours of backstory/getting a sword so I can hit things. Pretty fun so far, and I am anticipating slicing more things!
11/20/2011 6:06:37 PM
so far the music is good and I LOVE the sword controls
11/20/2011 6:17:16 PM
Yeah i'm 1 hour 41 minutes in and just got the green tunic, sword, and shield...i saved it and cut it off after that. so far i love the music, storyline, references to other games are neat also.. don't know if it was on purpose or not, but there was one lady i talked to in skyview that said she was terrified of the birds because of their talons.. i immediately thought of talon in OoTis there a way to increase the sensitivity of the motion plus? I feel like i really have to swing the wiimote hard to get him to swing the sword.i'm also debating whether i want to try and get the full upgrades for all the items or not. in zelda games past, i always got a 100% and collected all the heart pieces, sidequests, etc... I still wanna do that in this game, but i read that a lot of the item "upgrades" were unnecessary and temporary...for example, the wooden shield can be upgraded to a "banded shield" and then a "braced shield". By the time you get to the eldin volcano, you get an iron shield anyway, so i don't know if i want to take the time to upgrade a weak wooden shield[Edited on November 20, 2011 at 7:30 PM. Reason : ya]
11/20/2011 7:12:52 PM
the wooden shield breaks way too fucking fastbut I have thoroughly enjoyed the hour and a half I wasted on this today, good stuff
11/20/2011 7:42:10 PM
I can't remember if I saw on the title screen, but does it give you a percentage complete?
11/20/2011 8:12:39 PM
Finished the first dungeon. Enjoying it so far, the visuals are nice and story looks intriguing. I did not like the tedious fetch quest they sent you on before the first dungeon. ^^If you thrust the shield just as an enemy strikes, it doesn't lose any health.
11/20/2011 11:25:57 PM
Just finished the first dungeon. Aside from the preceding fetch quest, this game has delivered the goods so far. Visuals and music are both great so far and the storyline has lots of intrigue. It looks like they have finally incorporated an element of difficulty back into these games. I came quite close to death a few times before the first dungeon, and also during the boss (although I do have to say I went in with no shield at all). I used to hate how in Wind Waker and Twilight Princess it seemed like every single attack usually amounted to Link losing only a quarter of a heart. Most of the hits I've taken so far amount in a full heart being lost, and these are just the scrub enemies too.Just like the reviews say, if you try to go fight a group of enemies and wildly swing the remote, you WILL get your ass handed to you. Combat is much more engaging this time around as timing your attacks plays a much more critical role. The enemy AI is actively watching your stance and they WILL counterattack accordingly if you leave yourself open or if you are in an otherwise prone position.

Yarg I wish I had more time to play this. Just got the shield and I am about to leave Skyloft. Once Thanksgiving settles in I shall descend into a Zelda coma.
11/22/2011 8:40:24 AM
So far, I'm enjoying it, but its a very far cry from a 10/10 for me at this point. Maybe it will get better now that I'm out of the first dungeon and most of the tutorial stuff is done.Things that drive me nuts...-Motion Controlled swings only seem to work properly half the time for me. The first dungeon boss was an absolute pain because of this. I'd try a up->left slash and it would somehow turn into a left->right slash. Maybe I just need to work more on figuring out my center or realigning the Wii-motion Plus. Its already starting to feel gimmicky.-I hate how every. single. attack. needs. to. be. done. deliberately.Seriously. And I'm not talking about enemies where you need to do certain attacks or time things to hit their weak point. Those are fun and interesting.I'm probably in the minority, but I'm really starting to miss the motion controls from Twilight Princess. I loved how you could run around just slashing back and forth to cut down all the grass while moving. It felt like real progress in terms of controls. Now we're back to your character stopping movement when you slash.I also miss the fluidity of battle that the game had. Combat in Skyward just seems so disjointed and choppy. Sometimes I just want to roll around and go all ginsu on some enemies.-Still too many training wheels. I haven't checked the options yet, but I really don't want to hear an annoying ringing and a blinking on my screen every time my health runs low or my shield is low on durability or my wallet is near full or I've been targeting the same enemy for 30 seconds etc etc etc. Its certainly a big improvement from "HEY" and "LISTEN", but that was 10 years ago.-And this is the problem that is probably making me more critical than any other. The game has frozen on me 6 times so far. All the times but one have been when a cut-scene tries to go to the map screen. The one other time was during the exceptionally dumb 3 minute video that shows you how to put the Wiimote together with the Wii-motion Plus accessory and stick it in a condom. So I had to watch it twice. Anyone else have freezing problems?
11/22/2011 11:29:31 AM
I do agree that it sucks that you have to stop running to slash. It's a pain clearing out patches of grass or pots now. I haven't had any problems with the motion controlling though. I haven't actually had any intense battles yet... just the bats and the jelly things but just from playing around with the sword and the practice logs it's been swinging exactly as I expected.
11/22/2011 12:30:51 PM
I think the motion stuff is a combo of two things:1. Still don't know how to react quickly to things. For instance, I find that the yellow plants that can open their mouth both ways are a pain because it requires you to quickly adjust when it opens the mouth one direction, and my repositioning is often confused with a slash. Hopefully I get used to it as time goes on and I don't make this mistake anymore.2. I read a lot of people have to get the Wii-motion Plus re-centered often in the game, and I have yet to do that during any fights. I'm guessing I should be doing that and my problems are partially related.
11/22/2011 1:36:11 PM
Borrow buddy's Wii. Check.Got motion plus. Check.Going to pick up the game tonight. Can't wait.
11/22/2011 1:57:34 PM
Do I need to recenter/calibrate the wiimote even if it doesn't tell me? Is there a way to do it manually in the middle of the game? Also, the biggest fight I've had so far are the bokoblins that are messing with the Goron the first time you meet him. I had a hard time with those because my sword kept deflecting off their sword and it wouldn't register sometimes.I asked earlier, but can you increase the sensitivity of the motion controls? I feel like I really have to swing my arm hard to get the sword swing to work.
