operating condition and drive my car around like this with out damaging something until my part comes in?Evidently I have a vacuum leak or clog that I am trying to diagnose which is causing my engine to die at idle. The dealer thinks its the vacuum gallery assembly (basically a bunch of metal piping that form a type of manifold) and the damn part is on national back order and i may not get it for 5 weeks. can i force my ecu into open loop mode by pulling the O2 sensor so it runs on a default fuel map and won't stall? can i do this for the rest of the week with out damaging any thing else? i plan on confirming if the part they say is bad is actually bad and checking for other vacuum leaks this weekend.if i do find that the gallery assembly has a leak i will try and fix it until my new part comes in.

throttle cable? adjust it
10/25/2011 9:49:18 PM
is it electronic throttle? forcing open loop may not work.

on an 01 pathfinder?

Nissan, never again. Also is there a stored code?

NMSJ

2001 Qx4 has the Vq35de, just like maxima and G35. but the throttle is cable and not drive by wire. Adjust the idle set screw so the car idles higher and wont stall, or pull the temp sensor so the car runs on a cold idle map. gas mileage will suck

Gas mileage already sucks!!Yes I am getting the dreaded DTC P1130 (Swirl Control Valve Control Solenoid Valve). I replaced the Swirl Control Valve Control Solenoid Valve, cleared the CEL and it came back on a couple days later. I got tired of trying to diagnose it myself so I took it to the dealer. They diagnosed it and said it was probably VIAS control solenoid valve (which shares the same vacuum lines as the SCVCSV) or the vacuum gallery assembly (the VIAS CSV and the SCVCSV connect to the gallery assembly). The dealer had the VIAS CSV and I had already been charged an hour labor so I let them put it on. I get it back and the next day the CEL comes back, same trouble code. SO now I'm going after the gallery assy but its on national back order. I'm going to pull it off this weekend and see if i can locate a leak or maybe even a clog. aslo going to reinspect all the rubber hose and check the swirl control valve control vacuum check switch and the power valve actuator. I found a procedure to check these two parts. Here is a vacuum diagram.

could be a carbon buildup issue
10/27/2011 12:53:37 PM
yeah that's what i've read. i'm going to pull the gallery assembly and blow out all the metal hoses, check flro clogs and cracks. then check all of the hoses.
10/27/2011 1:06:17 PM
well the swirl control valve itself might be gummed up with carbon, not the solenoid.

The only way i now to try and help that is to run a can of seafoam thorough the intake system, which i did about 6 months ago. the swirl valve is integrated into the intake manifold.
10/28/2011 10:08:34 AM
Was there something wrong with your vehicle that prompted you to seafoam it?
10/28/2011 11:03:04 AM
shitty gas mileage
10/28/2011 11:14:03 AM
Wow
10/28/2011 11:19:05 AM
?
10/28/2011 11:25:02 AM
I just think it is interesting that you would run seafoam through the intake manifold of an engine with all this silly, expensive high tech shit on it just because it was getting poor gas mileage.
10/28/2011 12:12:34 PM
I also had the CEL on already so I hoping it might help clear that up. I have 160,000 miles on it so figured it could use a good cleaning.

if you have to buy parts, go to http://www.crossroadsinfiniti.com and print the saturday 15% off coupon

You would have been better off pouring the seafoam on the instrument cluster.
10/29/2011 12:52:23 PM
Ah....not a fan of seafoam? I've read good reviews so figured I give it a shot.So a quick update. I tested all of the vacuum hoses and found two cracked hoses. I also check to make sure the gallery assembly held vacuum and it did so I'm assuming that's all good a well. I replaced the hoses and reset the CEL. The damn CEL came on again this morning on the way to work. Pulled the code, same code. Really PISSES me off. So aggravating!!

is it feasible to pull the intake manifold and physically check that the swirl control valve is actually moving and not seized? it's just a set of butterfly valves right?
11/1/2011 11:50:13 AM
I'm not sure. There are a couple more components that I can check out before it gets to that though. Namely the Swirl Control Valve Vacuum Check Switch and Power Valve Actuator.
11/1/2011 11:55:00 AM
check those, but you may just have to pull the thing apart. I'm not completely sure how it determines whether the swirl control valve is working or not; I'd need a service manual. But there might be a position sensor or some other indirect method of determining whether it's doing its job. If the valve is not responding to commands due to being seized, it's going to throw a code every time. If that valve isn't working it affects the emissions of the vehicle so that's why it's such a bitch about going off all the time.

Have you visually inspected the SCV and VIAS solenoids' electrical wiring from the connector as far into the harness as possible? Check the SCV check switch functionality and connection as well. Based solely on that diagram it would seem logical to me that if the switch wasn't making or breaking the contact sufficiently it could throw that code out there if it senses no vacuum and thus thinks the SCV solenoid has failed.
11/1/2011 1:30:23 PM
If the switch fails its supposed to throw a different code, but I'm going to check it anyway. haven't got that far yet.I have checked the harness on both the SCV and VIAS solenoids and they look good.
