http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1853728/

Currently set for release on Christmas of 2012, this is looking like it's going to be pretty fucking amazing. My favorite description of the film was this:
Quote :
"Jamie Foxx will take over the lead role of the badass freed slave who—with the help of an equally badass German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz)—will take down an evil plantation owner and face off against his house slave (Samuel L. Jackson) in a flurry of stylized violence and showers of N-bombs."

The cast also includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Kurt Russell, Don Johnson, Gerald McRaney and Joseph Gordon Levitt.

Still pissed at Will Smith for turning this down

Foxx will be good, but Fresh Prince turned Freed Slave could've been great.

Agreed, I think Idris Elba would have been great too but he obviously doesn't have the box office draw that Foxx does. Idris Elba was born to play a badass freed slave.

Tarantino's stuff is always "Cool". conceptually, this is too, and i'm sure the execution will be as well.

i'd really like to see a movie about John Brown.

I thought this movie was going to be about Django Reinhardt.

Still, it sounds like it'll be really cool...and much more interesting than a movie about Django Reinhardt

Sweet & Lowdown was tangentially about Django Reinhardt. I doubt this movie will be better than that one.

I remember reading that Michael K Williams (Omar from the Wire) was also under consideration. I would have preferred him or Idris Elba over Jamie Fox or Will Smith.

Sick poster.

Not surprised Will Smith turned this down. He doesn't take roles that could remotely be construed as controversial.

Count me among those who would've rather seen Stringer Bell as the freed slave than Jamie Foxx. That said, Foxx was pretty fucking hilarious as Motherfucker Jones, so he might be great in this role. The plot sounds appropriately surreal and Tarantino-esque.

Quentin Tarantino sitting at his desk a year ago...

"I love saying 'nigger'. How can I write a movie to do that as much as possible?"

That being said, this sounds amazing.

I don't recall hearing it once in Inglorious Basterds. Maybe this movie is going to be like drinking a whole case of beer as a reward for not drinking all week.

The F-Word was used 265 times at a rate of 1.72 per minute in Pulp ficton. I'd say around 250 and at least once per 1.5 minutes.

Chiwetel Ejiofor would make a good house slave... maybe a tad too serious for a tarantino movie, but a good bad guy

Debuted at Cannes...
Quote :
"Django Unchained is about something on which Hollywood is traditionally very reticent: slavery. To the music of Johnny Cash and James Brown, a weird drama of violent revenge in the Old South unfolds. Christoph Waltz is a bizarre travelling dentist, whose profession is, in fact, a cover for his activities as bounty hunter, gunfighter and assassin.

With maximum and freaky violence, he frees a slave called Django, played by Jamie Foxx, and they track down some brothers with whom he has business.

Django wears an electric blue suit and a stylishly raked hat, and they encounter a very haughty slave owner, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. We don't get to see what Samuel L Jackson actually does in the movie, other than checking him in the credits.

The footage looks good – of course it would – but it's impossible to tell what the movie is going to be like. It could be brilliant, like Kill Bill, or underwhelming like Inglourious Basterds. Well, the chains come off at Christmas and we'll see then."
