I know you can buy a splitter to split the 4-conductor jack such as this:

My work comp has a single 3.5mm port for audio and mic. Can I rejoin the splitter into a standard 3-connector and then use my iPhone earbuds for conferencing through Skype, etc.

You shouldn't be using iPhone earbuds for anything, ever.

but when you has no cubicle to store things in and you travel all the time it's easier to carry those than lug around a headset.

So wait. Why would you use a splitter and then rejoin it? I assume it doesn't work if you just plug it in directly?

even though the iphone/ipod has what looks like a regular 3.5mm jack for your headphones, it reads the third band on the apple earbuds for the mic functionality. regular 3.5mm jacks don't have anything for picking up the third (mic) band, or vice versa. the splitter pushes the speaker (2 bands, left and right audio) to plug to go into your regular headphone jack and the mic (1 band) to plug into the mic jack on your computer.

and btw, ^^ obvious troll is way too obvious.

^but the OP just said they have a work computer that has a SINGLE input port for audio+mic.

AFAIK there is one standard for this, that the iDevices use just like everything else? Band1 = mono, Band2 = stereo, band 3 = composite video / Mic.

Is that not the case?
